DUBLIN
Alas!!! We are back to update you on what has
culminated throughout these past months of
celebrating special events both at the day program
and in the community.
Valentine’s Day: Love
Struck with Cupid’s Arrow
Love flowed through Mission Hope’s
atmosphere; and beyond the roses,
chocolates, teddy bears, and affectionate
cards on Valentine’s Day, our Program
Instructors have effectively dedicated
and provided hours of love, time,
devotion, and overall quality service to
our community since our doors opened
in 2006.We would like to acknowledge
our team’s outstanding contribution and
thank them for their support. In the
name of LOVE, this year several were
struck by Cupid’s arrow.
Our participants shared gifts, goodies,
and compassionate cards, danced, and
participated in contests with good
friends and staff. Everyone was very
enthused to vote for their favorite
candidate by giving their loudest cheer
and applause…….and the 2013 Prom
Queen was… NABILA! And elected
Prom King was… JETHRO! In
addition, a special thanks and
compliments to our multi-talented staff,
Carlos, who volunteered to DJ and
played the right jams to get everybody
groovin’ on the dance floor.
Feeling Lucky, eh? Best O’Luck to
all as we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day!

Our Green Lucky Charmers rushed in search for their Scavenger Hunt items (Leprechauns,
four leaf clovers, Leprechaun hats, gold coins, etc) in hopes to find the POT OF GOODIES
at the end of the rainbow before their opposing team did. The competition was thrilling
nevertheless the Luck of the Irish was within Kirk and his Program Instructor (Lorenzo)
who found the POT OF GOODIES at the end of the rainbow for his team.

Another Eggscuse
for Chocolate
Easter is the only time when it is a good idea to put all
your eggs in one basket and run around in search for more.
To prepare for the egg-stravaganza our participants created
their own colorful Easter baskets and dyed vibrant Easter
eggs. They were to dye for! The day of the celebration,
everyone joined in an entangled but amusing relay and
hopped their way to the finish line. Followed by a game of
egg toss; the object of the game was to toss an egg back and
forth as the distance between each other got farther.
Participants partnered up with their staff to toss and catch
egg with one another. It was an egg-citing game as some
eggs were caught and others were cracked, resulting in an
egg-stra big gooey mess! To complete our Hoppy Easter
participants hurried for the Easter Egg Hunt. In desperate
search for the Golden Egg, Kharmarlo finally found it and
took a grand prize home. Where was it cleverly hidden do
you ask? It was peeping out of our Program Director’s (Eric)
pocket! Everyone is looking forward to what next year’s
Easter has in store for us….another eggscuse for chocolate?!
A Sip of Summer
Dance Fever!!!
What a better way to have a taste of summer
than a day at the Alameda County Fair? Imagine,
the sun resting on your shoulders, live
entertainment, mouth-watering food, hands-on
family activities, amusement rides, traditional
county fair competitions, and many more
attractions. Participants promptly visited and
caressed the animals at the petting zoo. They
cheered, and clapped their hands as they
watched a breathtaking freestyle motocross
spectacle. In addition, they had the opportunity
to cheer the piglets in the piglet race and
stumbled upon a fire truck its crew. Furthermore,
participants and staff enjoyed their lunch in an
expansive shaded picnic area. Some chowed
down on finger licking food such as corn dogs,
cotton candy, funnel cakes, ice-cream, BBQ
classic county fair treats! As the food settled,
participants strolled through alluring gardens and
took group pictures. Prior to leaving, Captain
Jack Spareribs entertained the participants with
hilarious magic, dangerous juggling, and jaw
dropping illusions. As a result, the county fair
was a fantastic way to begin our dynamic
summer activities.
It’s a widespread, spontaneous, and infectious fever lurking through every
corner of the day program! There have been instances in which the music is
playing and one participant starts dancing, and when least expected it’s a party
and everyone is grooving on the dance floor! Throughout the past months we
have also had our share of dance competitions. Participants battle it out with
their peers in these heated, fierce, dance battles. Everyone grooves and sweats to
a variety of music genres. So be careful, you may catch the dance fever!

IT’S FIESTA
TIME!!!
Let’s crack open the
PINATA!!
Cinco de Mayo is “the fifth of May”
in Spanish. It is to commemorate
Mexico’s victory against the French
in the Battle of Puebla that occurred
th
May 5 1862. In Mission Hope our
participant’s battled against each
other to win in a variety of games.
They danced their way through
Limbo and Hot Sombrero (a
modified game of hot potato). Prior
to the party, participants shopped
for the ingredients to prepare our
deliciously festive salsa to go with
tortilla chips, quesadillas, and
Mexican rice milk; while listening to
some upbeat Spanish music. It
wouldn’t be a Cinco de Mayo party
without closing it with a big smash
to crack open a piñata full of
goodies.
With
eagerness,
participants lined up for their turn
and the piñata eventually burst
opened, pouring loads of heavenly
sweets!

BUSY BUSY BEES
Committed to learning new skills, gaining
self-confidence, and making new friends
while having fun, participants keep busy!
Our busy bees went head to head in a
couple of Spelling Bees that were won by
Camelia and Ryan. Participants also joined
in group discussions such as Safety
Awareness, Personal Space, and Personal
Hygiene. Christina, Erica, Sandra, and
Alexandra took turn to assist with clerical
work in the office; sorting, filing, making
copies, answering the phone and taking/
relaying messages for admin personnel. In
addition, participants took part in group
sessions such as yoga and American Sign
Language. Another major activity was
their hand painted, mural-like Aquarium
creation.
There is a certain magic that fills
the air when participants smile at
you; it somehow changes your
mood, brightens your day, inspires
you, and best of all, it makes you
smile from ear to ear. Here are
some of the infectious smiles we
have captured on camera that are
sure to give you a grin! Enjoy…
Mission Hope will continue to encourage
and enhance participants’ skills and
knowledge through a variety of educational
and recreational activities.
