At the inaugural WYCO Buffalo

From the President
There is no better place to be in
the summer than right here in
Wyoming County. I know that
I’m a little biased when I say
this, but after having been other places I am happiest right
here in my home county.
Whether attending a local festival or getting an ice cream at a
local shop, Wyoming County
truly has it all.
place; Women Owned Business:
How and Why; Living the
DREAM Life; and the Woman’s
Financial and Legal to-do List.
Sponsorship opportunities are
also available for this event.
This is the first-time for the
event and we hope to make it a
great success. Be sure to get
your reservation in early as
spots will fill up fast!
We’re excited to announce
some upcoming events that are
sure to be useful for personal
development, growing your
skills, and even a little bit of fun.
We have a real focus on leadership building for late summer
and into the fall and believe we
have an all star line-up for you
and your company to take advantage of.
In September, we are very
pleased to announce that we
have partnered again with the
GLOW area Chambers to bring
nationally recognized motivational speaker and trainer,
Glenn Shepard, to the area for
an intensive and enjoyable seminar which will cover topics like
defusing tension; derailing toxic
behavior; and “defanging” malicious employees. This program
is scheduled for September 10,
2014 from 8:30AM until 12PM.
The GLOW County Chambers
have worked together to significantly discount the tuition for
this seminar. Past attendees
have paid as much as $1,295 to
hear Glenn Shepard speak.
However, Chamber members
may attend this event for only
$129, ($149 for non-members)
and the fourth company registration is FREE! This is a not-tomiss event. If you’d like to preregister or receive information
on any of these programs or
events, please call the Chamber
at 585-237-0230 or email [email protected].
On Saturday, August 16, we are
hosting a GLOW Chamber Summer Picnic Day at Darien Lake!
This event is a member appreciation picnic and networking day
at the park. For the low price of
$32.28 per person, you’ll be
treated to an all-star catered
“Classic Cookout” picnic in the
park, free parking, tickets to
park attractions including the
Nik Wallenda: Beyond the Falls
Show, and the Ignite the Night
Laser Light Show. This ticket
package is a savings of $55.00
off the regular park admission.
Then, on August 21, 2014, we
will be offering the very first
“Women’s Business Summit.”
This event, which runs from
9:00AM until 3:00 PM, will be at
the picturesque Beaver Hollow
Resort and Conference Center
in Java, NY. A working lunch will
be provided and a dynamic keynote speaker will speak to the
group. Professional speakers
will cover seminar topics including Social Media in the Work-
On the business front, I am
deeply concerned with the recent health insurance rate increases that have been requested by the region’s carriers.
These requests have been into
the double digit percentages on
both the private and NYS Health
Exchange side. With the mandate that was required under
the Affordable Care Act, this will
take a deep financial bite into
businesses across the region.
We were “promised” affordable
rates as a result of the ACA, but
instead we are being hit by premium increases that are potentially worse than before. I
would encourage you to contact the NYS Department of
Financial Services and the Governor to let them know that
double-digit increases are hazardous to the economic well
being of Upstate. You can send
an email to [email protected] to share
your concerns. If they truly
want to help us, they have to
control costs that are driving
companies out of this state and
hurting profitability.
Not to end on a negative note,
we’ve been busy in the community at ribbon cuttings for new
businesses, hosting tours for
companies with Congressman
Collins and Senator Gallivan,
and distributing travel guides,
the new business directories,
and working on some potentially exciting new projects for next
year. Your county Chamber and
Tourism office is hard at work
delivering the programs and
services that will help our members get noticed and prosper. If
you have a need or idea of how
we can help, I would encourage
you to contact us. I hope you
get a chance to experience the
best of Wyoming County this
summer, and have some time
to enjoy it with family and
friends.
