Three lucky individuals received phone calls letting them know that they were selected as winners of this year’s “Shop Wyoming and Win” annual Buy Local promotion from the Wyoming County Chamber & Tourism. Following the February 10, 2015 drawing, the winners of the three top prizes from this year’s contest were notified by phone. Shocked and excited were the best ways to describe this year’s winners. This year’s winners were: Tara Herman of Delevan won the 42” LG flat screen HDTV from Phil’s TV and Appliance in Arcade; Joe & Amy Kirsch of Strykersville won the Lane Recliner donated by Harding’s Attica Furniture and Flooring in Attica; and Charles Canterbury of Attica won the $100 Wyoming County Visa Gift Card. The Wyoming County Chamber & Tourism held the drawing at the Wyoming County Board of Supervisors regular February Meeting. As the most senior members of the Board, Town Supervisors Jerry Davis (Covington), John Knab (Sheldon), and Joe Kushner (Eagle) drew the winning tickets. “Congratulations to the winners of this year’s “Shop Wyoming and Win” contest. This year’s promotion was a record breaker and we again exceeded our revenue goals over last year,” said Scott Gardner, President of the Chamber. “Our thanks go out to our local businesses who participated, and the shoppers from around Wyoming County and beyond for making this event a success. Special thanks to Harding’s Attica Furniture and Flooring, and Phil’s TV and Appliance in Arcade for donating the recliner and the television, and thank you to everyone who participated by shopping locally, placed a drop box in their business, or supported the program in some way.” “The prizes would not have been possible without the strong support of two county businesses. First, Phil’s TV and Appliances in Arcade for participating for a third year and helping to get a quality TV to give as a prize. The second business to thank is Harding’s Attica Furniture and Flooring for stepping up again this year and donating the Lane Recliner,” concluded Gardner. “These two businesses did not hesitate to participate and we hope that shoppers will stop in to say thanks and support these two outstanding local family run small businesses.” $50 worth of purchases made in Wyoming County, the participants were eligible for one entry in the drawing. We are very pleased the report that we broke last year’s record with 435 participants and total purchases at $251,256, up $7,808 over last year. The shopping promotion brought in sales taxes of $20,100 during the contest period. Total Contest Participants: 435 Total Purchases: $251,256 Increased 2014 contest shopping by: $7,808 Total Sales Tax Generated: $20,100 This year marks the third time that the Chamber has sponsored the holiday promotion as part of the Wyoming County Chamber of Commerce’s Get it Here – Wyoming County NY buy local program. After weeks of planning and delivering the entry boxes to small businesses all over the county, the contest kicked off on November 28th, “Black Friday.” Participants were required to save their receipts from purchases made in Wyoming County between “Black Friday,” November 28, 2014 and Christmas Eve, December 24, 2014. They then submitted the receipts by mail, inperson, or in drop boxes by the deadline of January 16, 2015.
