New Bobcat Telehandler boosts profits on farm
After years of impressive
performance from their
Bobcat skid-steer loaders, first a second hand
753 and currently a new
S150 model, the Els Clapers farm in Moià near
Barcelona has further
increased efficiency and
profitability by purchasing a new Bobcat T2250
telehandler.
By Eva Carrillo
Contributing to the increased flexibility is the
Bob-Tach attachment
system which the T2250
telehandler shares with
the S150 skid-steer loader, allowing the farm to
use the same attachments on the two machines for work on the
farm.
Els Clapers rears Friesian
dairy cattle and the farm
has been passed down
from one generation to
the next, maintaining
traditions but continually updating the facilities
at the farm, increasing mechanisation
and automation for enhanced convenience and to reduce costs.
Joan Serra and his son Jordi Serra currently manage the family business. Joan
said: “We use the new T2250 telehandler
to carry out jobs at height, such as stacking bales of hay in the barn and loading
trailers or trucks. This complements the
work of the compact loader. It also offers
us great versatility and profitability.
“Versatility because we can use the
same attachments on both machines.
The Bob-Tach system is the same
on both; practical, convenient
and allowing attachments to be
changed in a simple manner. And
profitability because this allows
us a great saving on attachments.
Otherwise we would have to
spend twice as much. Now we use
the loader’s bucket, grapple and
fork attachments continuously for
the hay bales, but we know there
is virtually an infinite variety of
other attachments available from
Bobcat that will allow us to work
with the required quality and precision when we have such a need.”
Els Clapers has approximately 200 milkproducing cows that must be looked after, fed and milked on a daily basis while
the facilities where they are kept must
be cleaned and maintained. In addition
to caring for the dairy cows, the farm is
also responsible for breeding cattle, primarily the calves born on their own farm.
Joan Serra carries out these routine jobs
using the Bobcat compact loader, which
he calls “the queen of the farm”, due to its
great versatility.
“I started doing some jobs using a second-hand Bobcat 753, which lasted us
for more than 10 years. We were delighted with the results from the compact loader and would have been lost
without it. For this reason, we have now
replaced it with the new Bobcat S150
compact loader model. We do practically everything with this compact loader. It
is like carrying a bucket and cart around
with you, but everything is mechanised.
I will give you this example of how easy,
convenient and effective it is to manage.
Nowadays with the Bobcat S150, we
do any job, no matter what it is. Cleaning, feeding the animals, carrying bales
of hay or loose feed, tidying up the access for the animals and even removing
snow in winter when the entrance gets
blocked.

between different work sites quickly and
efficiently. The large gap between axles
increases performance, smooths operation and increases operator comfort. It
also provides excellent stability, flotation and driving force over any terrain or
surface.
“For our type of work we need a flexible
compact loader, with the power and size
to allow us to work both in open spaces
and in tight spots, like the aisles in the
cow barn. If this machine cannot get
through, nothing else can manage it.
Its size, manoeuvrability, capacity and
power make it ideal for a smallholding
like ours.”
The distinctive features of the S150 are
the powerful radial lift arms and the distance between axles, which allow it to
lift heavier loads and move around more
smoothly. Its twin tilt cylinders provide
good lifting and pushing power in addition to better access to the cab and a
better view of the attachment. A travelling speed of 11.8 km/h allows it to move
The T2250 is the smallest in the Bobcat
range of telescopic handlers. Its compact size makes it ideal for working in
restricted spaces where reduced height
is an advantage. All Bobcat telescopic
handlers are easy to use and hydrostatic
transmission optimizes their productivity. This has allowed Bobcat to achieve
greater power, accuracy and smoothness, which contributes to the machine’s
overall safety. The operator’s safety is
assured by an aggravating movements
arrester (AMA), which prevents dangerous vehicle movements during operation. Another feature is the longitudinal
stability indicator (LSI), which clearly
indicates the machine’s longitudinal stability.
The T2250 model includes the QuickTach carriage with manual lock as standard. It’s very compact Z-bar configuration allows quick and easy dumping of
all materials. This model is equipped
with a Tier III compliant engine for reduced engine emissions and maximum
torque has been increased to 275 Nm.
Joan Serra commented: “Both machines
together meet all our needs on the farm.
We are continually on the move - we
work 365 days a year and our machines
must be up to the job. We cannot allow
ourselves to stop so we must rely on a
leading brand such as Bobcat, which offers us reliability and the best results.”
