Springtime in Northern Cyprus
Creative Holidays Springtime in Northern Cyprus Acrylic Painting Course with Sara Bor MA Saturday 16th April - Saturday 23rd April 2016 Sara (right) is an accomplished professional artist and inspirational tutor. Join her on a painting holiday in stunning Northern Cyprus, where you will explore and paint Crusader castles, mountain monastery ruins, 1500year-old Roman olive groves and remote picturesque seaside villages. Northern Cyprus is exquisitely beautiful in the Spring. The landscape is bursting with colour and life, and temperatures are those of a warm summers day in England. Just perfect for shaking off the winter blues. The course is based at the beachfront 4-Star Denizkizi Hotel, just outside Kyrenia, where you will enjoy full board. The hotel is set in a sandy bay with a large swimming pool (so ideal for non-painting partners). Each bedroom is en-suite and there is a large communal room set aside as a painting studio. The course, for a maximum of 12 participants, is aimed at both beginners and artists who wish to explore new methods of working using acrylics. It is about a response to the landscape and the coast through colour, marks and textures. You will work both in studio and en plein air within the landscape, exploring how to create a unique colour palette; experimenting with mark making, using a range of different tools to create individual textures and building up layers of colour, then applying the new skills you have learnt to develop your ideas on canvas with one to one tuition available. Each day will begin with en plein air painting and drawing, with an emphasis on sketchbooks using a variety of media. You will carry out detailed sketches, acrylic colour studies, mark-making exercises and take reference photographs. These will all be used to develop your ideas further back in the studio. In addition, there will be demonstrations, drawing and painting exercises and we will look at the work of other artists. Price for 7 nights ■ £985 pp, single occupancy, en-suite room. ■ £895 pp, two painters sharing a double/twin en-suite room. ■ £265 for non-painting partner sharing a double/twin en-suite room. Approx 40cm x 30cm Sara Bor MA - biography of an artist Sara hard at work en plein air ... Sara is a contemporary landscape and coast painter. She graduated from West Surrey College of Art and Design in the late 1970's and went on to complete a Post Graduate Certificate in Art and Design Education in 1980. Sara became involved in the London animation scene and freelanced for many of the leading animation studios producing Commercials, TV indents and films, before setting up an animation company with her partner and husband Simon. After many years of producing award winning children's animated TV series such as Wolves Witches and Giants, Grizzly Tales and Binka, Sara returned to her Fine Art roots and in 2007 gained an MA in Fine Art. Sara has lived and worked in Devon for over 20 years and is drawn to the remote beauty of the landscape and coast. Her work is an intuitive response to nature. Through an exploration of colour and mark making the work articulates the mood, atmosphere and energy of the subject matter and reflects on ever changing light created by the effects of the weather. Sara works in acrylics and oils building up layers of paint and creating different textures using a variety of tools to apply the paint. She explores and experiments with a limited palette creating a unique range of colours for her work. 'The process of painting is a journey of investigation, learning and surprise.' Sara has exhibited widely in England and Scotland and in 2016 shows include Gallery Tresco in the Scillies, The Jetty Gallery in Oban, Signet Contemporary Art in London and The Art Agency in Esher.
