Second Sunday of Easter
FEAST OF DIVINE MERCY
This Sunday, April 27 is the FEAST OF
DIVINE MERCY. We will celebrate this feast at
3:00 P.M –The Hour of Great Mercy. All our
parishioners are invited to come to the church
for a time of prayer and adoration of the
Blessed Sacrament.
THE COLLECTION
FOR THE CATHOLIC
HOME MISSIONS
IS APRIL 27th.
There are many dioceses in the United States
which have a large number of missions and
poor parishes needing our help. In these places
also the Church, with its message and
sacraments, must become present. Your
contribution to this annual collection will help
to provide more religious and pastoral
programs in these communities. May the doors
of these churches never close through lack of
our help. Please be generous in this collection to
this Sunday, April 27th.
AFTER EASTER…MANY THANKS
Our most sincere gratitude to everyone who helped
to make the celebration of Holy Week and Easter so
memorable and beautiful. The church was filled
beyond capacity in almost every service. Many came
to seek forgiveness in the sacrament of
Reconciliation.
A thousand thanks to all who ministered…as lectors,
ministers of Holy Communion, altar servers, ushers,
sacristans, especially Dr. Helen Albertson, and our
maintenance men Julio Rodriguez and Reynaldo
Quintana. They and many others do so much
“behind the scenes” cheerfully and willingly.
Our thanks to the students of St. Agnes Academy
who presented a realistic and very moving Way of
the Cross on Good Friday.
The choirs, as always, enriched our liturgies with
their artistic talent and all the rehearsal time needed.
The ladies of the Altar and Rosary Society decorated
the church with beauty, taste and elegance, giving
many hours to the task. And a thousand thanks to all
who by their prayers, presence and generous
donations showed their love for God and our
community of St. Agnes.

A PRAYER IN HONOR OF
POPE SAINT JOHN XXIII
Loving and gracious God,
you gave us good
Pope Saint John XXIII,
a reflection of your Son,
Jesus Christ,
the light of the world.
As the source of our inner peace,
help us to be, like him,
a disciple of peace in our care
for the poor and suffering.
Grant that through his intercession,
we may receive the grace to serve others
as we continue Christ’s work among us.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Amen.
A PRAYER IN HONOR OF
POPE SAINT JOHN PAUL II
Wise and gracious God,
in your divine wisdom
you sent Pope Saint John Paul II
to guide and shepherd the Church
in changing times.
He courageously defended
all human life
from conception to death.
Through his intercession, we pray,
strengthen us to follow in his footsteps
so that we might experience
“true joy and authentic love,
and a lasting solidarity among peoples.”
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Amen
The school will be closed through April 27th for
the Easter Holiday.
Classes resume on
th
Monday, April 28 . We wish all St. Agnes
families a joyous Easter!

TWO POPES SAINTS:
S. JOHN XXIII AND S. JOHN-PAUL II
Today, April 27, 2014, the church recognizes as saints two giants of recent Catholic and world
history. Both Popes John XXIII and John Paul II were messengers of God’s mercy, so it’s fitting
they be canonized on the day Pope John Paul II established as Divine Mercy Sunday.
Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli (1881-1963) was born on November 25, 1881, in
Sotto il Monte, Italy. He was the fourth child of 13. His father was a
sharecropper. He was ordained a priest in 1904, a bishop in 1925, and elevated
to the College of Cardinals in 1953. he was elected to the Chair of Peter as
Pope John XXIII in 1958. “The Good Pope” was perhaps the most influential
pope of the twentieth century.
When he was elected at the age of 76, many thought he would be a short-term
caretaker until his successor was chosen after his death. He surprised the
Church and the world with his reforming spirit, manifested most poignantly
when he convened the Second Vatican Council in 1962, which laid out a broad
new vision and set of reforms for the Roman catholic Church.
While pope, Saint John XXIII wrote eight papal encyclicals, including Mater et Magistra (Mother
and Teacher), which expounded on themes of Christianity and social progress, and Pacem en Terris
(Peace on earth), which focused on the establishment of universal peace in truth, justice, charity,
and liberty. He died on June 3, 1963. His Feats is October 11. the Anniversary of his opening
Vatican II (1962-1965)
Karol Józef Wojtyla (1920-2005) was born on May 18, 1920, in Wadowice,
Poland. He had lost his entire family by age 20. Nazi Germany had invaded his
country requiring that he become a manual labor to avoid being deported.
He was ordained a priest in 1946, a bishop in 1958, was appointed archbishop of
Kraków in 1964, and elevated to the College of Cardinals 1967. He was elected to
the Chair of Peter as Pope John Paul II in 1978. A groundbreaker in many
ways, he was the first Polish pope and the first non-Italian pontiff in four
hundred years.
He was a worldwide traveler, visiting places where no pope had gone before, and
opened dialogues with Protestant and Orthodox denominations. He was tireless in his work for the
poor and powerless, speaking out against war, economic injustice, and political oppression. He
talked from his own experience of suffering and oppression under Nazis and Communist system in
Poland.
He left the Church more than dozen encyclicals and scores of other documents, and beatified and
canonized more than a thousand men and women from all walks of life. He died on April 2, 2005.
His last words were: “Let me go to the house of the Father.” His Feast is October 22, the
Anniversary of his inauguration as leader of Church.

DOS PAPAS SANTOS:
SAN JUAN XXIII Y SAN JUAN PABLO II
Monte, Italia. Eran humildes campesinos. Fue ordenado sacerdote en 1904;

y nuestros corazones cerrados,
para los milagros que la vida,
nos presenta en todo momento?
PON TUS MANOS, SEÑOR,
SOBRE NOSOTROS
Pon tus manos, Señor, sobre nosotros,
tus manos traspasadas por los clavos.
Y danos fuerza, Señor, danos coraje
y espíritu de entrega y de servicio.
Líbranos de miedos y de penas,
de la comodidad, del conformismo
y de la indiferencia.
Pon tus manos, Señor, sobre las mías,
para que se abran al amor
y estén siempre dispuestas al servicio,
a sumarse a otras manos, a todas,
