This type of combination screw is fitted with a plain washer DIN 6902, which has hardness of 200 - 250 HV. The washer is
attached to the screw before threading in order to let the washer turn freely without detaching. The combination screw has to
meet the following requirements: The bottom face of the head must be level, nominal diameter needs to be between M2.5 M12 and the material strength has to be, according to ISO 898, at most 10.9.

Taptite thread forming screws
Mechanical properties according to ISO 7085:1999.
When tapping the neccessary force required is always less than the tensile strength of the screw.
The size of the mounting hole, precision, material properties and lubrication method affects the tapping torque.
The pull-through strength value in the following chart is an directional value, not a constant value set by the ISO standard.
Case hardened self-tapping screws has to be marked with a “-0-” marking.
The mark is mandatory in socket and hex head screws with nominal diameter M5 or larger.
If separately requested, this mark can also be put in smaller or different types of screws.

Fasteners for sheet metal
Press-in fasteners can be used to create, either internal or
external threaded joints on sheet metal. These joining elements are securely clinched to the host material.
The joints can be used to attach and detach objects several
times with a screw or a nut. This feature allows the improvement of manufacturing efficiency and the production of complex sheet metal solutions, such as closed corner products.
There are two types of press-in fasteners, SELF-BROACHING
and SELF-CLINCHING based fasteners. Both types are installed to a drilled or punched mount hole in the host material, by applying a constant squeezing force.

Self-broaching fasteners
A fastener is attached to a mount hole and is pressed from the opposite side, so that the bottom face of the fastener
clinches to the host material. The serrated clinching ring in the shank of the fastener provides torque resistance, which
prevents any turning between the host material and the fastener. This type of fastener suits well for thin and hard
materials.
Self-clinching fasteners
Fasteners with a hexagon head or serrated clinching ring are attached to the host material in a mount hole. The bottom face of the fastener is designed to displace the host material causing it to flow into the thread or groove of the
fastener, thus locking the fastener securely to the host material. This type of fastener suits especially for sheet metals of
medium hardness with minimum thickness of 0.8 mm, as well as for softer materials.

WES and WECLS
WES and WECLS are self-clinching flush nuts, which are installed into a mount hole and locks in place by

If there are room for the serrated ribs in the mount hole, using a size
bigger nut is recommended.
Installation
Usage
To achieve the best installation result, it is important to use a properly
manufactured riveting tool (see page 92). It is recommended to use
a clamp to achieve a constant result. Small amounts can also be
installed by hand tools
In order to achieve the best possible joint, it is recommended to install
the screw through the opposite side of the head, although it is possible
to install the screw from the top face side.

Locking miniature self-broaching nut
WEMINLOK is a self-broaching internal threaded locking nut
with a serrated shank.
When installed, the bottom face of the nut mounts around the
hole, while the serrated shank clinches firmly to the host material, ensuring a strong and enduring joint. WEMINLOK’s upper
portion of thread is distorted, thus making it an all-metal locking nut.

Self-clinching stud
Self-clinching studs WEFH and WEFHS are external threaded
joining elements, which are installed in to the sheet metal by
pressing.
The ribs and the groove at the bottom face of the stud shape
the host material creating a strong and enduring joining.

When installed, apply squeezing force sufficiently enough to
achieve a steady embedment of the head. Using excess force
must be avoided. Installation squeezing force varies depending on the material of the sheet and the size of the fastener.
See page 104 for more information.
Noteworthy
In particular installation combinations depending on the size
of the fastener and the thickness of the sheet metal, the anvil
must be equipped with a countersink. Countersink is needed
for self-clinching studs M5 or less when installed in to a sheet
with thickness 1.5 mm or less. Self-clinching nuts M6 or larger
also require a countersink, when the sheet thickness is 2.5
mm or less.

Rivet nuts
When the material is thin, using rivet nuts is a simple and ideal
way of creating a threaded joint.
The rivet nut suits well for materials with thickness of 0.25 to
8.00 mm.
Available in different materials: Steel, aluminium and stainless
steel.

Most common when using normal load on
a steel sheet.
Most common when joint surface isn’t
required to be level.
Round, Rifled:
Flat head:
Most common when an efficient and strong
penetrating internal thread, without the need
for sealing, is required.
Grants higher torque resistance.
Hexagon:
Grants the highest torque resistance with
high loads.
Used when the joint surface needs to be
level.
Reduced Head:
Used when the joint surface needs to be
level with the sheet metal.
Tools
Tools are important when using rivet nuts. They are strong and easy to use. The
nosepiece and cap screw are easy to replace. A single tool suits for the installation
of various sizes. Easy to use manual, pneumatic and hydraulic tools are available
for use. The rivet nuts are placed into drilled or punched mount holes. The rivet nut
is then placed into the nosepiece manually or automatically, depending on the
type of the tool. When the jaw pusher is drawn out the non-threaded part of the
nut expands radially, thus riveting the nut into the material. Turning the cap screw
counter-clockwise releases the tool from the nut.

Blind:
Grants liquid proof sealing, which protects
the joint from corrosion or dirt. Important
when the joint is painted and the thread isn’t
protected.
