Based on feedback from the Gallup Physician Survey,
Hendrick has established areas of concentration to
improve in the next year.
Turnover of nursing staff

Medicaid STAR News: Reminder Texas Medicaid will become privatized through one of
three private HMO carriers, effective 03/01/12. HMC
has contracted with FIRSTCARE and with Superior
Health Plan; however, HMC has chosen at this time not
to accept Texas True Choice/Amerigroup’s contract for
STAR.
Beginning 03-01-2012 Hendrick will re-direct
Amerigroup enrollees from all registration points except
for emergency presentations. For more details contact

When is the move planned? New equipment and supplies will be delivered after 12/15/11. Existing equipment and supplies will be
moved beginning Friday, 01/20/12, after 7 p.m. Labor & Delivery will move 02/06/12. HBO and Wound Care will move 01/09/12.
Will there be cell phone and WIFI service in the new building? Yes.
Do I have to wear my new badge to enter the building? Yes. Many of the doors are secured and the new badges will be required
to allow entrance into the building or parking garage. The badges are proximity badges and do not require scanning.
Where should I park? Parking for physicians with lease space in the Professional Center and new Medical Office Building is in
the lower parking garage of the new building. Another 10-20 physician parking spaces will be available in the lower parking garage
on a first-come, first-served basis. The current physicians’ parking lot will remain the same.
FAQs – Surgery
Will surgical supplies be kept in the OR area? Yes – in
the core areas of surgery as well as in Central Supply.
2. Will CS and SPD be available 24/7 to pull cases and
needed supplies? Yes – both will be staffed 24/7.
3. Is there a designated area for surgeons to dictate? Yes
– in PACU.
4. Will there be a full block schedule the first day? Yes –
the plan is to have the following rooms fully stocked and
operational the first day: 1-CVOR; 1-Neuro; 1-Ortho; 1Cysto; 1-Endoscopy; and 3-General .
5. How many ORs will there be? 14 in all: 1-CVOR; 1Hybrid CVOR; 2-Neuro; 2-Orthopedic; 8-General.
6. Will I have a mailbox in the new building? No –
mailboxes will remain in the existing Physicians’ Lounge.
7. Will I have a locker in the new building? Lockers in the
new building will be assigned to anesthesia providers and
surgeons who work in the OR, Endoscopy Lab and L & D.
8. How will the OR contact me? There will be a paging
system throughout the OR and in the new OR Physicians’
Lounge. OR staff will also use surgeons’ cell phones.
9. Where will surgeons stay between cases? In the new
lounge or in the old one, which will remain the same.
10. Where will I enter the building? Old Day Surgery stairs
in the Shelton Bldg. to the 2nd floor. You can enter along
the new dock area at Cedar Street or from several entrance
points from the main hospital.
11. Has there been enough time allotted for orientation to
the new OR and new equipment? Yes – there is
instructional time in many of the new equipment contracts.

How many rooms are in the new L & D? Four antenatal
rooms, four triage rooms, eight LDRs, three ORs and four
recovery bays.
Will there be a full schedule the first day? No – there
will be four LDRs fully functioning because the delivery
room lights will be moved from the old location to the
new. A lighter induction schedule will be anticipated the
first week.
Is there a Physicians’ Lounge in the new unit? Yes – it
consists of separate male/female showers, locker rooms, a
common area with two computers, a 46” TV, and three
sleep rooms.
Are there enough computers? There will be two in the
Physicians’ Lounge, a computer at the patients’ bedsides
in every room (antenatal, triage and LDRs), and computers
in all three ORs. There will be a computer at the
antenatal/triage nurses’ station and two computers at the L
& D nurses’ station that are specifically for physicians.
How will my patients get to L & D? Patients may enter
the hospital as they did previously through the main
entrance (Parker Wing) elevators to the 4th floor. L & D is
located past the nursery windows and through the waiting
room ; or they may enter through the main hospital
entrance and go to the right of the Gift Shop then left at the
Information Desk in the new building and take the
elevators to the 4th floor.
How do my patients get to my office in the new
building? They can use the entrance facing Pine Street.
There is a circle drive and they will use the entrance
between the revolving door and the Quizno’s entrance.
There is a set of elevators that will open into the
physicians’ office waiting area.
There are several access controlled doors between C4 and
L & D that will require physicians to use their new badges.

Will supplies be kept in the Dialysis area? Yes – in core
areas of the unit and the warehouse.
What is the most direct entry to the unit? C Wing back
stairwell entry or from the new dock area from Cedar St.
Is there a designated area to dictate? Yes – main entry
hall to the unit across from the Nurse Manager’s office.
Will there be a full schedule the first day? Yes – rooms
are to be fully stocked and operational on the first day,
01/23/12. The old unit will be available on the 23rd & 24th.

Will the unit phone numbers be the same? Yes.

Dialysis Unit Opens 01/23/12
Where is the Pediatric Unit located? On the 5th floor of
the new building. There are staff and service elevators that
access the floor in addition to the public elevator. All entry
points require badge access.
How many rooms are there? 19 general pediatric beds
and one negative flow isolation room. Two sets of rooms
(total of 4 rooms) are designed with pass-through doors
between two rooms to accommodate the times when two
family members are hospitalized at the same time. The
plan is to utilize two of these rooms for OP infusions when
they are not being used for family members.
What new security measures are there for the new
unit? Monitored closed circuit cameras throughout the
unit; incorporation of an infant/child abduction system;
and the unit is locked. Because the unit is locked, it will be
necessary for physicians to use their badges. If physicians
do not have their badges, they may contact the nursing
staff to unlock the doors.

When is HBO & Wound Care moving? The week of
January 13. It will be fully operational in the new location
on the morning of 01/16/12.
Will services be offered during the move? HBO services
will be offered through the move. Would Care services will
be offered January 9-12 in the current facility and will close
on 01/13/12.
Where is the new HBO & Wound Care Center located?
On the 1st floor of the Shelton Building, 2000 Pine Street.
How are patients referred for HBO, TCOM or Wound
Care? Call Centralized Scheduling at 670-4270 or fax
orders to 670-4276.
Where do we tell our patients to go for their first
treatment? They will register at the Admissions Desk on
the 1st floor of the Shelton Building.
Where should patients park? In the Shelton Building
parking lot, 2000 Pine Street.
