This is Saab Saab serves the global market with world-leading products, services and solutions from military defence to civil security. Saab has around 13,000 employees. Annual sales amount to around SEK 24 billion, of which research and development account for about 20 per cent of sales. Business area Electronic Defence Systems’ operations are based on Saab’s close interaction with customers requiring efficient solutions for surveillance and for threat detection, location and protection. This has created a unique competence in the area of radar and electronic warfare, and a product portfolio covering airborne, land based and naval radar, electronic support measures and self-protection systems. SIRIUS AIRBORNE SIGINT SYSTEM – TO LISTEN IS TO KNOW www.saabgroup.com SIRIUS AIRBORNE SIGINT SYSTEM SAAB AS A SIGINT PROVIDER SIRIUS AIRBORNE SIGINT SYSTEM COMPLETE SOLUTION Accurate information is crucial for decisions and actions taken by a nation’s leadership. This requires a comprehensive intelligence capability. Saab SIRIUS Airborne SIGINT system provides the means to keep pace with signal collection for strategic intelligence as well as real time situation awareness for tactical purposes. The Saab SIRIUS Airborne SIGINT system is a complete solution including airborne and ground segments. The airborne segment contains advanced COMINT and ELINT sensors which performs signal collection, while the ground segment includes mission planning and post-mission analysis. •Full in-house competence to provide a complete SIGINT solution •Supports both strategic and tactical missions •Extensive track record in Electronic Warfare and SIGINT •Independent supplier •State-of-the-art technology •Customer tailored solutions •Flexible Support Solutions including In Service Support over the complete life cycle •Integrated situation awareness picture Operator’s HMI •Fully user programmable libraries •Analysis of collected data •Reporting and dissemination to decision makers ROLE BASED MISSIONS The airborne segment makes use of flexible operator workstations which allows the operator roles to be adapted to mission objectives. For instance this allows a mission where COMINT is of high importance to increase number of COMINT operators on duty. • Wideband and narrowband signal acquisition with sophisticated filtering mechanisms provides fully automatic classification and collection/recording of signals. • Software Defined Intelligence Architecture (SDIA) with configurable demodulators and data decoders. • Automatic recording of signals of interest triggered by pre-set criteria. The ELINT sub-system uses state-of-the-art equipment and includes: SITUATIONAL AWARENESS MANUAL OPERATIONS The operator allocates sensor resources based on their roles. The operator tasks will be co-ordinated by the mission commander using a tasking and reporting system and the tasks are monitored as the mission progresses. The operator can perform real-time control of the sensors and decide how the data in the sensors shall be captured, processed, recorded, and reported. AUTOMATIC OPERATIONS During the mission the SIGINT system compiles a consolidated situational awareness picture, where the location of emitters and identified platforms are presented on a digital map together with the relationships between them. The situation awareness picture is used by the mission commander to control any mission updates and is also transferred to the ground segment for analysis and dissemination. COMINT SUB-SYSTEM The SIGINT system can operate automatically from directives set up during the mission planning. This allows the operators to focus on mission objectives supported by: • Frequency search strategies. • Automatic measurement of direction of arrival and location fixing for radio transmissions including frequency spread spectrum signals. The COMINT sub-system utilizes state-ofthe-art equipment and includes: • Ultra-fast wideband scanning digital tuners for handling of burst communication signals and frequency spread spectrum signals. • Monitor/Intercept tuners consists of multiple wide and narrowband channels. ELINT SUB-SYSTEM • Steerable high gain ELINT antenna which provides high sensitivity for intercept of side-lobe emissions and low probability of intercept (LPI) radars. • Channelized digital receiver with wide instantaneous bandwidth for high precision measurements. • Automatic identification of emissions using libraries. • Detailed signal parameter extraction capability. LIBRARY GENERATION The SIGINT system includes analysis tools and emitter library generation tools for creating and maintaining libraries that are used by the system. Library data can be imported and exported to national SIGINT databases using well defined interfaces. Emitter libraries can be updated on-line during mission.
