on the beach or along the Promenade (seawall), the longest pedestrian one in Europe, breathing the fresh air of the open
sea that Marcel Proust, a chronic asthmatic, used to look for.
We care about preserving our precious architectural heritage for future generations. To explore it, stroll around the shaded

There are plenty of activities and entertainment scheduled all year round for you and your children (ice skating, Katy’s
workshops, games, festivals, sports contests, Jazz weekend, cultural performances, concerts, sound and light shows, Club’
Cabourg, etc.). But that’s not all. Cabourg is also a place where the horse is king: we are the capital of trotting races in
summer, our show jumping is the most important one in France, and we have decided to organise this year a big knights’
tournament on the sand for the children.
We always strive to better welcome you: in 2013, the Promenade Marcel Proust will be completely redone, a new multipurpose building especially arranged for theatre and cinema will be inaugurated, the Avenue de la Mer will be entirely
reshaped… Not to forget the renovation of the Grand Hôtel, a five-star luxury hotel in the heart of the Casino’s Gardens,
and the opening of the thalassotherapy centre opposite the sea with a four-star hotel comprising 165 bedrooms, which
increases our accommodation capacity.
You will also be able to listen to classical music under the trees in the Aquilon Park, where the children can enjoy
themselves, and in our new Marine Theatre, opposite the beach, at sunset. Enchanting moments that you will only spend
in our town! Yes, Cabourg is a unique destination, unaffected by the passing of time, where you will enjoy relaxing and
spending time with family or friends.

staying by the water
With its long sandy beaches, the Manche Departement attracts many water sports
enthusiasts. Cabourg is part of the Communauté de Communes de l’Estuaire de
la Dives (Dives Estuary Community Council) that was awarded the "France Station
Nautique" (French Nautical Resort) quality label, which guarantees quality service
and optimal safety: kitesurfing, sea kayaking, catamaran sailing, jet skiing...
For your own safety, the beach is supervised by four first-aid stations.
seashells and seafood
At low tide, the 4-km-long beach provides a great playground. From sandcastle
contests to sand-yachting including beach clubs, there are activities to suit
everyone. Every Thursday in summer, the Tourist Information Centre organises
shellfish picking activities for children to discover the coastal fauna and flora.
Well-being and pleasure
Relaxation, fitness and fine food in a refined and enchanting setting… This is what
you will find in the new thalassotherapy centre, which opened in January 2013.
Next to the four-star hotel Les Bains de Cabourg, Thalazur offers a varied range of
spa treatments: sculpting massages, water cure and themed stays all year round.

seawater comfortably lying on a deckchair. The Établissement des Bains makes

Take a stroll in the streets and immerse yourself in the Belle Époque atmosphere.
You will enjoy the fashionable city centre with its charming little shops and villas
enlivened with colourful mosaics. And don’t forget to admire the numerous roofs
decorated with finials.
Between luxury and tradition
Located on the Promenade Marcel Proust, the Grand Hôtel is the only five-star
hotel on the coast of Normandy to have direct access to the beach.
Built in 1907, the building is a perfect example of Italian Renaissance architecture.
Completely renovated in 2011, it combines modernity and tradition with warm and
contemporary colours. Sample a delicious cuisine made with seasonal produce in
one of its two restaurants, Le Balbec or La Plage.
a festival that celebrates romanticism
Every year in June, Cabourg organises the Romantic Film Festival, a
cinematographic event for professionals and the general public that attracts
about 11,000 visitors each year for outdoor and indoor film projections. It is a
romantic event punctuated by emotional moments and encounters between
the public and renowned actors: Sophie Marceau, Gad Elmaleh, Jean Dujardin,
Sandrine Bonnaire, Jérémie Renier, etc.

a treasured beach
Henri Durand-Morimbau, a Parisian businessman, marvelled at the beauty of the
dunes of Cabourg and bought it in 1853. The town was designed by the architect
Paul Leroux in the shape of a Greco-Roman theatre. First, a casino made out of
wood was built in 1855 for the inauguration of the Resort. The Grand Hôtel, built
in 1907, replaces its predecessor, the Hôtel de la Plage. During the first 25 years
of Cabourg’s growth, more than 200 villas were erected.
"Purify your body and entertain your mind"
Such is the motto of this new seaside Resort! In the 19th century, people came to
take the waters for its medicinal healing powers. "Patients" were carried to the
water in wooden carts pulled by horses. Guides used to help them into the water
or they held on tight to the ropes stretched above the water. After their treatment,
bathers used to meet at the Casino’s theme evenings, at theatre performances or
went waterfowl hunting in the swamps.
Cabourg, Marcel Proust’s source of inspiration
From 1907 to 1914, the writer stayed at the Grand Hôtel to cure his chronic
asthma and enjoy the high-society life and fashionable activities available in
Cabourg. Inspired by his stays, Marcel Proust wrote, in Cabourg-Balbec, the
finest pages of À la Recherche du Temps Perdu (In Search of Lost Times), his
masterpiece.
Lights, Camera, action!
a mythical town
Anglo-Norman cottages, Belle Époque villas, Italian Renaissance facades,
Gothic gates and finials account for the architectural wealth and diversity
of Cabourg.
An ideal setting for filming, the seaside Resort has inspired a large number
of film directors who have put Cabourg in the spotlight: Claude Pinoteau
(La Boum - The Party), Anne Fontaine (Coco avant Chanel - Coco Before Chanel)
and Marc Esposito (Le Coeur des Hommes - The Heart of Men). More recently,
Éric Toledano and Olivier Nakache have featured the Grand Hôtel and the beach in
their film Intouchables (The Intouchables).

The "famille Plus" label, for children and grown-ups
First in the Calvados Departement, Cabourg is proud to display the logo
"Famille Plus". It ensures quality service for families and their children.
The Tourist Information Centre and tourism professionals of the Resort have
committed themselves to six principles: a special welcome for families, activities
for all ages, preferential rates, exploration of the local environment and heritage,
the proximity to shop and services and special entertainment for children.
They include: Katy’s workshops, Katy’s Kid Cooking activities, shellfish picking,
sandcastle contests, etc.
"Club’ Cabourg"
In the same spirit as a "holiday resort", the Tourist Information Centre has
launched the "Club’ Cabourg" in 2009, which is open in July and August. What
is it? It offers more than 30 activities every week both during the day and in the
evening, for the whole family, and at preferential rates: Zumba sessions, strength
training, craft activities and shellfish picking for children, horse racing, concerts,
conferences, guided tours, introduction to golf, beach volleyball, tennis, dramatised guided tours, etc. There is something to suit every age and taste!
The "Incontournables du Club’ Cabourg" (Club’ Cabourg’s must-dos) contains the
key events of the year. These includes a light show projected on the Grand Hôtel
facade, Dinner on the Seawall, "Toiles de Mer" (painting activity on the seawall),
Tea in period costume, fireworks, the Book Fair, etc.

Ready, steady, Go!
Sports and leisure fans, children will have everything they could wish for! Many
places welcome children: beach clubs, sailing school, sand-yachting, pony club,
mini golf course, games library, little tourist train, etc. Don’t miss them!

grandparents and grandchildren enjoy the numerous activities

Improve your golf swing…
Explore the two complementary golf courses: the Public Golf (9-hole course) and
the Hôme Golf de Cabourg (18-hole course) that offer a variety of landscapes to
please the eye. Take advantage of the Pass Premium, our special offer: 49 € for a
Green Fee at each golf course, available all year except for July and August. More

Beginners or experienced players will have the opportunity to play tennis in an
exceptional setting. The Garden Tennis, which benefited from major improvements
this year, offers quality facilities that are unique in Normandy: 12 clay courts,
4 indoor courts, 4 concrete courts and 2 practice walls.

It is not unusual to see trotters training on the beach early in the morning
or on the racetrack. Horse riding is the flagship sport of the seaside Resort.
Cabourg indeed celebrates horses with various events: "Un Monde Équestre"
(Equestrian Show), Show Jumping, ÉPONA Trophies, etc.

La Petite Reine (Cycling)
There are 18 kilometres (11 miles) of dedicated cycle paths or roads shared with
cars to explore the historic town centre by bike. You can also extend your ride and
discover a mosaic of landscapes between the Norman country and sea.

(Market Hall) welcome you every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday
morning, and every day in summer. As for dining options, tempt yourself with
one of the many fish dishes and seafood platters. Food lovers will also be able to
enjoy an ice cream while walking along the beach.

souvenir from Cabourg while browsing around the little shops in the town centre.

Cabourg is always careful to welcome you in the best conditions possible. People
with disabilities appreciate the ease of movement on the Promenade (seawall),
the access ramp to the beach, the Tiralo® available and the accessibility to
many public buildings and places. People with visual and hearing impairments
can access appropriate services at the first-aid station n°4, the library and the
cinema. Several professionals are also developing disability sports activities.
A travel guide for wheelchair users visiting Cabourg and the Calvados Departement
is available at the Tourist Information Centre, which was awarded the "Tourisme
et Handicap Moteur" (Tourism and Motor Handicap) label.

Place your bets!
The Casino is open every day and features 75 slot machines. You will enjoy
its heated terrace and its restaurant overlooking the sea. Do not miss the live
concerts, theme evenings and events organised by the famous Parisian nightclub,
Le Baron, all year round in the Lounge Bar.
"Rendez-vous in Cabourg": Impressionist sound and light show
Images will be projected on the facade of the Grand Hôtel every Sunday night in
summer. Polychrome images will bring you back to the early days of the seaside
resort, to the 1920s and the development of the town. This show is part of the
Normandy Impressionist Festival and highlights the Impressionist movement and
the theme of water. (Further information page 24 to 27)
Dinner on the seawall, the 10th edition
This dinner gathers more than 4,500 people around a long table on the Promenade
Marcel Proust, overlooking the sea. In a very friendly atmosphere, the evening will
be punctuated by musical entertainment, walkabout performances and surprises
to celebrate its 10th anniversary! (Further information page 26)
Cultural events
Jazz and pop-rock concerts, theatrical performances, Universities’ Theatre
Festival, Cabourg Film Festival, conferences, Tea in period costume, etc.
There are numerous outing ideas! You can also rediscover the works of classical
music on the "Musical Tuesdays" in the Aquilon Park or during one of the events
"Musique au soleil couchant" (Music at sunset) organised in the Marine Theatre.

Evening entertainment
When the sun sets, a nightlife atmosphere permeates the streets,
music can be heard in the streets and the party continues well
into the night…
There are free street concerts every Saturday night in summer organised by the
shopkeepers of Cabourg, fireworks, night trotting races, cinema, mini-golf, night
markets, etc. There’s something for everyone!
