This evening the Cub Scouts did a walkabout at the Stewart
Farm off of Crescent Road in South Surrey.
The picture on the right shows the Stewart Farm House
which was built in 1894 by Surrey pioneer John Stewart for
his family, this charming restored Victorian farmhouse
features a wrap-around verandah, an elegant parlour and
dining room, and a wonderful warm kitchen with a working
wood burning stove
The picture below shows Akela talking to the Cub Scouts about the history of the
Stewart farm before everyone headed out along the trails in the Elgin Heritage
Park.
`
The boys had a chance of working a water pump that they found to the east of the Farm
House. Everyone trekked along the trails seeing kayaks and sailboats on the Nicomekl
River. The Leaders brought thermoses of hot water and midway through the walk
everyone stopped and enjoyed a cup of hot chocolate.

This is your chance to earn your Cycling Badge – everyone will have their bike
and helmet inspected and then after everyone has had a chance to earn
their Cycling Badge the Cub Scouts will bike on the trails at the South
Surrey Bike Park.

Link Camp 2012
The Leaders are finalizing the plans for Link Camp but here are a few things that they
are looking at:
On Saturday morning the Cub Scouts
will be growing crystals on a string. By
the time everyone goes home on Sunday
each Cub Scout should be able to see
how much their crystal has grown.
The Leaders have the glass jars that the Cub Scouts
brought to the meeting in April.
Later on Saturday morning the Cub Scouts will
climb up nearby Teapot Hill ... this is considered
an easy climb as you go up 250 meters in a 6 km
hike over 2 hours.
As the Cub Scouts stop at the various
lookouts they will see great views of Cultus
Lake (see picture on the right) and the
Columbia Valley (see the picture below).

We need help to continue next year
Some of the camps and sleepovers highlighted on page 8 & 9 are already booked
and paid for and the rest soon will be BUT they all may have to be cancelled
because as of now we will NOT have enough Leaders next year. Akela & Hathi`s
sons will be moving up to Scouts at the swim up ceremony at Link Camp and we
need Mothers or Dads to replace these Leaders/ Parent Helpers next year for
supervison.
If you are willing to become a Leader please see Bagherra at the bike park next
Thursday OR email him at [email protected].
Pictures
If you are at one of
our Cub Scout
meetings or events
and take pictures
please forward copies to Kaa at
[email protected] in a .jpg format so
they might be included in the newsletter.
This coming year our Cub Scouts
will be working on the Blue Star &
Purple Star plus their Badges and
Awards.
Congratulations to
Bagherra for
completing his
Woodbadge I
Leadership at Camp
McLean. He had the opportunity to
meet many Scouters from across the
Fraser Valley and learn
about the rules, ceremonies,
and traditions of Pack
Scouting.
In July Kaa will be taking a
week long Woodbadge II
Leadership course at Camp
McLean.
