Muskegon County Garden Club elects officers
COOPERSVILLE
(Submitted by the Muskegon County Garden Club)
The Garden Club elected and installed officers for 2011-2012 at its May meeting. Past President Marilyn
Swanson presented each installed officer with a piece of fruit symbolizing each person’s traits. Though each
fruit had a unique flavor, combined they would make a wonderful salad. The board would mix their talents
and traits in serving the Garden Club well during the two-year term. The Muskegon County Garden Club
is a member of the Michigan Garden Clubs, Inc. and the National Garden Clubs, Inc.

Fruitport Chiropractic Center
welcomes new doctor
(Submitted by Fruitport Chiropractic Center)
Fruitport Chiropractic Center, 3427 Farr Road, is
pleased to announce the addition of their new associate,
Dr. Tyler Karns. He is a diverse practitioner who is fitting
in well at this practice. With a knowledge of a wide
variety of holistic healing methods already available, his
addition promises to enrich the practice as well as the
patients.
Dr. Karns is an August, 2009 graduate of Parker
University in Dallas, Texas. While studying, he was also
involved in leadership, serving for five semesters on the
student senate, and captaining the school’s swim team
for two seasons. A portion of his internship was spent in
Bogota, Columbia, where he treated the athletes at the
National Training Center.
The doctor has received post-graduate training in
nutrition, geriatrics, and scoliosis treatment, as well as
chiropractic for athletes. He treats patients of all kinds,
but has particular interest in treating athletes, seniors,
children, and those with scoliosis. Dr. Karns is very
excited to be at Fruitport Chiropractic Center because of
the expertise and techniques practiced here. In particular,
Dr. Karns is learning Nutritional Response Testing from
Dr. Steve Szatkowski, who owns and operates the clinic.
Dr. Karns is married to Dr. Avery Karns, also a
chiropractor, who is currently practicing in Grand
Rapids. They have a one-year-old son, Sebastian. They
enjoy outdoor activities such as skiing, swimming and
hiking, and also enjoy wine tasting at West Michigan’s
fine wineries.
In addition to practicing chiropractic medicine,
Dr. Karns is a professor of Anatomy and Physiology at
Grand Rapids Community College. He has been teaching
at the college level since his own graduation and enjoys
educating people. To that end, Dr. Karns also presents
regular lay lectures on health issues and the functioning
of the human body.•
