Moscow The capital of Russia since the late
15th century, Moscow has always been a popular
destination for more adventurous tourists.
During your stay, you will have an opportunity
to see the city’s world-renowned attractions
that include the UNESCO World Heritage
sites of the Kremlin, St. Basil’s Cathedral
and the Church of the Ascension, all dating

include Red Square , the Tretyakov Gallery ,
the National Museum of Russian Fine Art, the
Moscow Metro and a tour of the Armoury and
its spectacular and priceless collection of royal
jewels, crowns, thrones and armour of the Tsars.
For groups an additional optional evening
entertainment and tours are available, and you
are welcome to take a Moscow by Night city tour,
or attend a circus or theatre performance.

is one of the oldest Russian towns, and a place
of a pilgrimage of Russian Tsars. According to
a local legend its origin goes back to back to
937. During the guided walking tour you’ll
visit the magnificent five domed Transfiguration
Cathedral and Church of Czarevich Dmitri of the
Blood – build to commemorate the most famous
event in the town’s history – a mysterious death

of Dimitriy Rurik dynasty.

Kostroma One of the loveliest cities of the
Golden Ring, Kostroma is certainly a highlight
of the cruise. The pride of Kostroma is the
museum at the former Ipatyevsky Monastery
founded in the 14th century by the Zernov
family, the forebears of the Godunovs. The
crypt of the Monastery became the Godunov
burial vault. Kostroma is the only Russian city
retaining the classical layout of the 18th/19th
centuries, with streets and boulevards fanning
out like the spokes of a wheel from a central
square.
Goritsy Historic highlights tour. You will visit
one of the oldest and most famous monasteries
in Russia – the Monastery of St. Cyril of the
White Lake. Dating back to the 14th century, it

Moscow, GUM Departement store
Your evening schedule is free, and you are
welcome to join the optional Gala Folklore
show excursion, or a ballet performance at the
Hermitage Theatre, once the private theatre of
the Tzars.
Rostov-on-Don The southernmost part
of Russia’s Steppes was an 18th century
Cossack outpost and trading center. Today this
“Gateway to the Caucasus” leads to Ukraine
and is an industrial and agricultural center. Its
magnificent parks and beaches, theaters and
museums, and unusual botanical gardens with
vast collections of rare and beautiful plants
make Rostov a most attractive city on the Don
River.
Volgograd (stalingrad) The City of
Volgograd, formerly called Tsaritsyn (1598–
1925) and Stalingrad (1925–1961) is located
on the west bank of the Volga River. It is an
administrative center of Volgograd Region.
Stretching along the Volga River for 43 miles
is Volgograd. This thriving center was built as
a living monument to the valor and courage of
the defenders of Stalingrad during World War
II, whose steadfastness created a major turning
point of the war.
Astrakhan Astrakhan is an old Russian
city located on the Volga River, close to where
it merges into the Caspian Sea. The city itself
was first mentioned by travelers in the early
Yaroslavl
St. Petersburg
13th century, and called Xacitarxan. It was
burned to the ground by Tamerlane, but was
rebuilt and became a center of Khazaria and
the Golden Horde khanate. Astrakhan’s major
historical landmark is its Kremlin (built from
1580s to 1620s). Designed by the masters from
Yaroslavl, and constructed from the bricks
pillaged from the Golden Horde, it remains one
of the best examples of traditional medieval
church and military architecture in Russia.
Astrakhan Region is a fertile land, rich in
wildlife, beluga, sturgeon and exotic plants.
Its location, the delta of the Volga River, is
considered to be one of the world’s ecological
jewels.
Saratov A beautiful city surrounded by
outlying villages, Saratov was settled by
Germans in the 18th and 19th centuries.
Chernyshevsky, the famous Russian writer and
democrat, was born here and Yuriy Gagarin, the
world’s first cosmonaut, was a member of the
Saratov Flying Club.
Samara Founded in the 16th century,
Samara is today an important industrial and
cultural center of the region. Formerly known
as Kuibyshev, the city played a big role in the
Peasant Uprising of 1670 under Styepan Razin
and again in 1773 under Yemelin Pugachev.
Recently Stalin’s bunker was discovered here
and opened to the public.

Simbirsk (Uljanovsk) Formerly known
as Uljanovsk, the birthplace of Vladimir Ilich
Uljanov, known to the world as V.I. Lenin, the
city was a Soviet shrine for almost 70 years.
The huge Lenin Memorial Complex includes
the house in which he was born, his grammar
school and other buildings associated with his
life.
Kazan Kazan lies at the confluence of the
Volga and Kazanka rivers, and is the Capital of
the Republic of Tatarstan. The city stretches for
about 15 miles along hills, which are dissected
by ravines. It is a major industrial, commercial
and cultural center, as well as the heart of the
Russian Tatar national culture.
Nizhni Novgorod Founded in 1221, this city
was a famous meeting place where people from
the Orient, Siberia and Turkestan came to barter
and trade. Formerly named Gorki, it was later
home to political exiles and therefore closed to
outsiders for many years. Nizhni Novgorod has
only recently opened its doors for visitors, where
many well preserved memorials from the 13th
and 14th centuries are found. Of special interest
are the ancient Kremlin, cathedrals, convents
and the palace of the early ruling family.

Livadia Palace Palace - Crimea
Odessa
Kiev
is one of the oldest cities in Eastern
Europe. The ancient capital of Kyivan Rus,
Kiev is often called “The Mother of Russian
Cities”. The name of the city comes from
the name of Kyi, legendary founder of the
original settlement. During its history,
Kiev passed through several stages of great
prominence and relative obscurity. With the
exact time of city foundation being hard to
determine, May 1982 was chosen to celebrate
the city’s 1,500th anniversary. Modern Kiev
is a tourist’s delight with its many historical
and architectural landmarks being preserved
or reconstructed throughout the city. Its
numerous monuments and unique architecture
include the magnificent golden domed
Cathedral of St. Sophia; baroque 18th-century
St. Andrew’s Church; the old buildings of the
Podol Quarter; Pecherskaya Lavra Monastery,
with its mummified bodies of monks, and
Babyn Yar, a memorial to the 100,000 victims
of the Nazi occupation in 1941. A short walk
up on Vladimir Hill reveals a scenic panorama
of the city.
KANEV one of the most ancient cities in
Ukraine, Kanev was first mentioned in a
chronicle of 1149, although some believe that it
had been founded as early as the tenth century
during the reign of Prince Yaroslav. Situated on
the right bank of the Dnepr River, the city was
successively ruled by Tatars, Lithuanians, Poles,
Turks and Russians. Kanev is inseparably linked
with Taras Shevchenko, the great Ukrainian
poet and painter who is considered a founder of
Ukrainian literature. Shevchenko is buried on a
hill overlooking the Dnieper River.
SEVASTOPOL — CRIMEA One of the most beloved
and beautiful cities in the Crimea, Sevastopol
is a seaport and the industrial, scientific and
cultural center of Ukraine. One of the major
highlights of your stay in Sevastopol will
be a visit to the Panorama Museum, which
features a three-dimensional circular work
of art representing a 24-hour battle in the
defense of the city during the Crimean War. It
is a fascinating and skillful fusion of a painting
in the background with real objects in the
foreground. Also enjoy a bus tour to Yalta, the
largest international resort on the Russian coast
of the Black Sea.
ODESSA The “Pearl of the Black Sea,” Odessa
is a modern city and major seaside resort which
rises in tiers above a gently curving bay. The
home of Black Sea Shipping Co. (the world’s
largest shipping company), this port city is also
the southern sea gate of the major shipping
routs connecting Russia, Ukraine, and other
former USSR republics with Europe and Asia.
Kiev, Opera house
Vilkovo
One of the city’s major landmarks is a famed
Potemkin Staircase, that is rising 460 feet from
the sea to the upper levels of the town. Your tour
will include the Promenade, the main shopping
street, and Odessa Opera House - one of the most
beautiful and acoustically perfect in the world.
KREMENCHUK Although an industrial area,
Kremenchuk also abounds in parks, gardens,
and sandy beaches. Almost completely destroyed
during WWII it was rebuilt and features
architectural and historical landmarks that
include The Makarenko Museum, The World
War II Memorial, The Victory Square and Dnepr
River Bridge.
Zaporozhye Site of the first Cossack state
in the 15th century, this “city beyond the
rapids” is a place of pilgrimage for thousands
of tourists seeking to learn the history of the
Cossack warriors. It is also the site of the Dnepr
Hydroelectric Station, once the largest in
Europe. You will enjoy a magnificent panorama
of the town and Khortitsa Island. Visit to the
Cossacks History Museum, and an optional
Cossack Show at the additional fee.
KHERSON Approximately 60 miles from
the Black Sea, Kherson was built in 1778
by Catherine the Great as a fortress where
Zaporozhye Cossacks fought against the Tatars
and Turks. Tourists can take a picturesque
Odessa

boat trip to the Dnepr Delta, docking at a small
fishing village for a picnic lunch served by local
chefs.
YALTA The Crimea has been called the “Pearl
of the Ukraine” and Yalta the “Pearl of the
Crimea.” With its mild winters and temperate
summers, Yalta is the most popular Crimean
resort. It was once the retreat of the Tsars
and Russian nobility, and later became the
playground of Russia’s Soviet leaders. Its
streets rise steeply away from the coast and are
lined with plane trees, spreading oleanders,
clipped laurels, cherry laurels and tall stately
cypresses. You will see the famous Swallow’s
Nest, a Gothic-style building resembling a small
castle which was built on the edge of the huge
overhanging cliff of Cape Ai- Todor, and the
former royal residence, the Great Livadia Palace,
built in 1913 in Italian Renaissance style (this
tour will be optional). It was in this palace that
the Yalta Conference was held in 1945 and the
leaders of the three allied powers – Roosevelt,
Churchill and Stalin – decided on the postwar
organization of the world. Yalta has several
museums, the most popular being the house
where Anton m/s Chekhov lived until just before
his death. It was there that he wrote “The Cherry
Orchard” and “The Three Sisters.”
Vilkovo founded in 1746 and assigned the status
of “town” in 1762. It is the last settlement on the
banks of the Danube before the Black Sea. It is
also known as “the Ukrainian Venice” thanks to a
number of channels excavated inside its territory.
That is why boating is a more common method of
transport than an automobile.

Yevpatoriya The first recorded settlement in the
area, called Kerkinitis , was built by Greek colonists
around 500 BC. Along with the rest of Crimea, Kerkinitis
was part of the dominions of Mithridates VI, King of
Pontus, from whose cognomen, Eupator, the city’s
modern name derives. Yevpatoriya has a rich history.
Today it is a major Ukrainian Black Sea port, rail hub
and resort town
