Refer to USA – FM 3-11.5, USMC – MCWP 3-37.3, USN – NTTP 3-11.26, USAF – AFTTP(I) 3-2.60 for decontamination procedures. 041025 SPIE Symposium UK050426_APBI 2 Joint Program Executive Office for Chemical and Biological Defense TERMINAL LEARNING OBJECTIVES At the conclusion of this lesson, the warfighter will perform; size and fit, PMCS, don, doff, display proper use and care, mark overboot for training and disposal operations of the Alternative Footwear Solutions in accordance with U.S. MARINE CORPS TM 8415-10/3, U.S. ARMY TM 10-8415-220-10, U.S. NAVY SS200-AP-MMO-010, and Air Force T.O. 14P3-1-141. 041025 SPIE Symposium UK050426_APBI 3 Joint Program Executive Office for Chemical and Biological Defense AFS INTRODUCTION • SAFETY PROCEDURES • DESCRIPTION 041025 SPIE Symposium UK050426_APBI 4 Joint Program Executive Office for Chemical and Biological Defense AFS SAFETY PROCEDURES Prior to Donning: 1. Inspect the shelf-life expiration date on the outside of the vacuum seal package before use. 2. Inspect the factory packaging, to ensure that there are no holes, cuts, or damaged areas that will reduce the effectiveness of the overboot. 3. Before donning visually inspect the overboot to ensure that there are no holes, cuts, tears, cracking and tackiness. Replace damaged overboot with a serviceable AFS. 4. If factory seal package has been penetrated with POL or insect repellent, mark and use for TRAINING ONLY (TRNG ONLY) or dispose of in accordance with Service directives. 041025 SPIE Symposium UK050426_APBI 5 Joint Program Executive Office for Chemical and Biological Defense AFS SAFETY PROCEDURES (con’t) Prior to Donning: 5. During use, inspect for holes, cuts, tears, or separations in the seams. • If either overboot is damaged before, during, or after use replace Alternative Footwear Solutions with a serviceable pair. • All test participants must be monitored for skin irritation, heat rashes, and signs of heat stress. NOTE: If you have any problems notify your supervisor immediately 041025 SPIE Symposium UK050426_APBI 6 Joint Program Executive Office for Chemical and Biological Defense AFS DESCRIPTION Alternative Footwear Solutions is an overboot worn over standard combat/duty boots that will provide chemical and biological (CB) protection when worn as part of the CB protection ensemble. The Alternative Footwear Solutions will provide 24 hours of protection in a CB contaminated environment.
