Johnny Brown Bag came to life when Jen Scalzo found a photo
of her husband, Giovanni, when he was a young boy in Calabria,
Italy. He was sitting at his classroom desk in 4th grade with his brown
bag lunch. Jen & “Johnny” realized that the brown bag is everywhere
and about everyday life. Johnny was first introduced to the pleasures
of food through his mother’s delicious recipes. He came to America in
1971 at the age of 15 while in high school. He began working parttime in Vito’s Pizzeria, where his passion for food continued to grow.
While attending his 2nd year at UIC, Johnny decided to pursue a
restaurant of his very own.
Johnny Brown Bag will be the 3rd restaurant for Johnny & Jen Scalzo.
They opened their first restaurant Via Carducci in Lincoln Park in 1996
and their second restaurant Via Carducci La Sorella in Bucktown in
2007. Now, they are very excited to have Johnny Brown Bag join the
Andersonville neighborhood!
Here at Johnny Brown Bag, Johnny & Jen want their customers to feel
like a part of the family. They look forward to bringing quality food,
unique dishes, and affordable pricing to their customers, in a casual
and family friendly atmosphere.
