Photostory 3 for Windows
Photo Story will help you to easily create video stories by adding multiple effects to your existing pictures. You
can use it to add narration to your pictures as well as adding titles and background music to make them come to
life.
Note: Click on “next” as you finish each step J
Step 1: Welcome Slide
Click on “begin a new story” to get started
Step 2: Import and arrange your pictures




Click on “import pictures” and browse to the folder where you have stored your pictures.
Hint: Use CTRL A to select all in a folder. You can also hold down the CTRL button and click on multiple
pictures instead of having to individually go through the steps of selecting each picture.
Arrange the order of your pictures by either dragging and dropping or using the left and right arrow keys.
You can also delete any pictures you decide not to include by either clicking on the “x” button or highlighting
the picture and hitting the delete button.
There are editing features under the picture preview on the left. You can rotate, crop, take the red eye out,
remove black borders, etc. in this step.
Step 3: Change your font



You can also change fonts, font colors, sizes, styles, alignment, placements on slide, etc.
Picture effects are also in this step. (It’s ok to do this if you want.) You can make your pictures look like
water colors, black and white, give it a sepia tone, etc.
This step also allows you to type in a title for one or all slides. (DO NOT use titles for this project.)
Step 4: Narrate your pictures and customize motion
This is the best feature of this program! No additional software is needed to create easy narration. You will, however, need a microphone. If you have a laptop, you already have a microphone built in. We will also have headsets available for recording at school.
 First have your script in front of you so that you can read what you are going to say/record.
 Then click on the red dot to begin recording.
When you are finished, click on the black square button to stop the recording.
Note: the default time that each picture will be on the screen is either five seconds or the length of your narration.

Custom motion and transition are also in this step of the wizard. (optional)
Click on “customize motion” under the picture preview to see what options you have.
Step 5: Add background music (optional)








If you choose to use music, make sure that it does not cover up your voice!
Click on “select music” and browse anywhere on your computer that you have music stored (like windows
media player, I-tunes, or a cd). You can also find Royalty Free Music on the school R drive:Common K-12.
Music will start on the slide selected when inserted on that slide.
You can select different songs for different slides, and you can select only portions of songs as well.
Be sure to adjust the volume here, especially since you have narration.
I recommend the volume not be any louder than the first line of the bar.
If there are times (like transition slides) where you will want the music to be louder, you can set the volume
higher.
You can also set the volume to be lower per slide.
A nice feature in the program is the “create music” button. You can browse and create all kinds of music
mixes here that can be customized per story or slide.
Step 6: Save your story
You will have two options here: 1) save project—this allows further work/editing, or 2) save the finished movie
for playback on your computer.
Save project: Click on “save project” at the bottom of the dialog box. You can save your project to your
desktop in the same folder where you retrieved your pictures or anywhere else you might want to
store it to have easy access to it again.
Save story for playback on your computer: This is the format for turning in your fullycompleted project. Click on that area and click on the “browse” button in the file name section of
the dialog box and browse to the area you would like to save the project (like a flash drive or a
different folder). You’ll have to name your project. You should name your project with your class
period, last name, first name. For Example: 1Brown, Joe 5Garza, Rosa
Click on “next” and watch your computer build your story.
After a few seconds, it will be ready to watch, and you can exit the software.
You’ll be viewing the project in a .wmv version.
Your movie will be turned in to your teacher in its finished form (.wmv format). Check to make sure you have
saved it properly before turning in your project in the method your teacher requests.
