SPECIAL TO THE LEDGER DISPATCH
Local musical act Over the Edge,
voted best band in Amador County
last year, in 2013, enjoys a return to
this status again this year. The band
is comprised of Joe Bellamy on bass,
Dave Holob on electric violin and
mandolin, and Adam Gottstein on
guitar. First formed in 2002, Over the
Edge has played many venues in and
out of the county … especially in the
wineries of Shenandoah Valley.
“The music is diverse and draws
on many influences and genres,” said
Holob. “We can pull off a Brazilian
jazz up-tempo original composition
and have that followed by a rockabilly
piece that will get folks up onto the
dance floor in a heartbeat. Throw in a
traditional ballad and then finish ‘em
off with a classic blues tune. We like to
say ‘If one of our songs doesn’t appeal
to you, stick around, we’ll get you
something you like before the intermission. We promise.’”
The vocals in this band rely heavily on three-part harmonies with set
lists that are liberally sprinkled with
original songs — most of them written
by guitarist and lead singer Adam
Gottstein.
Over the Edge was the featured
entertainment for the past two years
at the Gala Fundraiser by the San
Francisco Boys Chorus. Custom
performances were auctioned off at
the events, to raise money for tuition.
Other gigs have found Over the Edge
playing at AT&T Park, home of the SF
Giants last year, as well as on Al Capone’s 1930, 136-foot restored yacht,
“Acania.” The band was privileged to
be asked to play on the bridge deck
during the rechristening of the yacht
after an extensive five-year restoration.
This celebration took place at the San
Francisco Yacht Club, in Belvedere, on
the SF Bay.
This year, Over the Edge returns to
AT&T Park on August 29 at the invitation of the SF Giants for a pre-game
event called Wine Fest, featuring the
wineries of Lodi. There will be an
expected crowd of 1,500 to 1,800 fans
who will sip fine wine, listen to Over
the Edge at Seals Plaza (just outside
the centerfield wall) and then head
into a night game against the Milwaukee Brewers.
Among the notable gigs that the
band has this year will be part of the
TGIF Summer Concert Series, put
on by Amador Arts. Over the Edge
will play a free concert at the Volcano
Amphitheatre on August 1. For more
