FALL FESTIVAL CELEBRATED THE SEASON WALTON LEADERSHIP TEAM SERVES CITY OF AUGUSTA 900 hot dogs and 400 ears of corn were served up at our first annual communitieswide Fall Festival, held at Walton Village in Marietta in October. This event was a collaborative effort by First Baptist Church of Marietta, Roswell Street Baptist Church, Johnson Ferry Baptist Church, Hayes Elementary School and Walton Communities. Festival-goers enjoyed a petting zoo, game booths with prizes, cake walk, craft tables, face painting, bounce houses and even a hayride. With over 75 volunteers that included our hosts from Legacy at Walton Village, an estimated 500 people attended what we hope will be the first of many Fall Festivals to come! The entire Walton leadership team, consisting of property managers, maintenance managers and Community Support teams participated in a day of service in Augusta in September. The group worked side by side with members of Beulah Grove Church, completing various yard and home projects throughout the community, as well as doing painting and repairs to the Boys and Girls club and the Beulah Grover Community Resource Center. Walton Communities has two apartment communities in Augusta, with a third now under construction. SERVING YOU The following letter was received from a resident at Walton on the Chattahoochee: “I am writing this email to commend Santos (Torres). This morning I came out to my car and I had a flat tire. This was very discouraging because yesterday my car didn’t start and the car that had a flat tire is the car that I am borrowing while my other one is fixed. However, not 30 seconds after I saw the flat Santos came up and immediately offered to help me. He helped me change the tire in no time at all and was very professional and understanding. Santos truly was a blessing to me today. I want to thank him and acknowledge his excellent resident service.” LEGACY CLUBS Our Legacy Clubs for adults 55 and older provide an opportunity for seniors to meet each other and enjoy fun and informative programs each and every month. ENJOYING CULTURAL EVENTS 700 residents from Walton Communities enjoyed two great cultural events in October—in addition to our regular Cultural Enrichment opportunities. Disney on Ice: Frozen thrilled little girls and boys (and their parents and grandparents)—it even snowed inside Philips Arena! Tickets for this were offered to Walton residents for just $5 each. What a deal! One excited resident shared this comment with us: “Thank you so much. Last night, Selene (age 9) said, ‘I just love it here! We get to do free stuff and fun stuff we don’t normally get to do.’ Big smiles all around!” Another exciting opportunity came to us last-minute (like many great things do). The Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre was host to Video Games Live, an extravaganza in sight and sound. 400 lucky Walton residents enjoyed this event FREE of charge! Here is what one resident had to say: “This was a great event. I loved the entire show, the venue and the seating area. The Symphony Orchestra and choir were phenomenal and the video composer was a recent rock star—he was great. Everything was just so perfectly wonderful!” Keep a lookout for more great opportunities coming your way—some via email, some in your newsletter. When something catches your eye, act fast! These don’t last long! MAKE A WISH Walton Communities was a proud sponsor for the 14th annual Cobb County 5K to benefit Make A Wish Georgia. The race took place on October 4th in Marietta Square. Several of our Walton team members and their family members participated in the event. WALTON COMMUNITIES FAMILY PICNIC The whole Walton Communities team, along with their families, descended on Walton on the Chattahoochee in September for our annual Family Picnic. There were plenty of fun and games and good food, and everyone loved enjoying the beautiful setting by the river. Just think! Walton on the Chattahoochee residents get to enjoy that breathtaking view every day! CHATTAHOOCHEE COFFEE COMPANY The Chattahoochee Coffee Company, located inside the gates of Walton on the Chattahoochee Apartments offers a respite from the world. This review on yelp.com speaks for itself: “Despite the 100+ reviews for this place, this is one of Vining’s best kept secrets. The coffee is awesome. The staff is friendly. If you’re looking for a place to relax, to unwind, or to inspire you to write, this is definitely the place to go for it. In addition to the great coffee, there are numerous li’l private spaces that overlook the river. It doesn’t matter where you sit; it’ll feel cozy. Not only that, everyone around you just seems extremely friendly... it’s almost as if I was back on a college campus during the first day of Spring. If you want something different from the Starbucks and Caribou’s, give this one a shot. You’ll wonder why it took you so long to find it in the first place.” The Chattahoochee Coffee Company is opening a second location in November inside the newest Walton community—Walton Westside, located on Huff Road in Atlanta. RAISING HIGHLY CAPABLE KIDS 80 parents from five Walton communities are participating in the Raising Highly Capable Kids parenting program. This 13week course helps parents help each other as they identify the 40 developmental assets that make a child successful in school, at home and in life. The first round of these classes that were offered last Spring brought rave reviews from parents. We can’t wait to hear from this group! Be looking for more information about a new round of classes that will be offered in early 2015. NEED TO GET YOUR GED? GED classes are underway at Walton Crossing, meeting each Tuesday and Thursday, 10:00-11:30 am and 7:00-8:30 pm in the Adventure Center. (You can choose the time(s) that work best for you).
