FAQS
USO DFW History and Programs

USO DFW officially opened its doors on June 14, 2004.

Since its opening, USO DFW has welcomed more than 1.6 million service members and their families as they travel
all over the world. USO volunteers welcome 300-500 guests every day.

There are five paid staff members and more than 240 volunteers at USO DFW.

The USO is a Congressionally chartered non-profit organization here to serve personnel in all branches of the military: active duty, National Guard, reservists, and authorized family members.

USO DFW hosts troops and families at three locations: two at DFW International Airport and one at USO Dallas
MEPS. USO Center amenities at DFW Airport Terminal B Gate 15 include a café, TV lounge area, sleeping room,
children’s room, computers, cell phones, books to read, Xbox, etc. There is a smaller lounge at Terminal D Gate 22
where guests may enjoy snacks and drinks while they wait for their flight. USO Dallas MEPS (Military Entrance Processing Station) opened June 2013. Each year, more than 13,000 new enlistees into the Armed Forces will be provided an introduction to USO programs available at each of our 160 global locations.

All services provided at USO DFW are complimentary to our guests and are made possible by the generosity of our
donors, support from companies and organizations, and the North Texas Community.

USO DFW offers a United Through Reading Room where service members or their loved ones may record themselves reading a book, playing the guitar, or record a special message on a DVD. Our volunteers send the DVD and
book to the loved one for free.

The USO DFW Families of the Fallen and Family Support teams help families who come through our airport with
whatever their need may be. If there is a dignified transfer through DFW Airport, volunteers will meet the families
and help escort them.

USO DFW also supports local guard and reserve units with Family Days and other unit activities. Activities include
providing snacks, soft drinks, bounce houses and face painting.

USO DFW staff and volunteers participate in a wide variety of events each year and share the mission of the USO.
There are larger events throughout the year including the Alliance Air Show, Honor Flights with WWII Veterans,
Kaboomtown, Ride2Recovery, Yellow Ribbon events, and supporting thousands of troops during Exodus.
