CAMPAIGN RESULTS
In 2010, ArtsWave launched with a new name
and an expanded mission: to be a leader and
regional catalyst that works to advance the vitality
and vibrancy of Greater Cincinnati by mobilizing
the creative energy of the entire community.
Four years later, our ongoing transformation has
produced some amazing results.

2014 WAS A RECORD-BREAKING
YEAR FOR THE ARTSWAVE
CAMPAIGN, with more than 40,000
donors contributing over $12 million. We
could not have achieved this milestone
without the incredible leadership of
Campaign Chair Melanie Healey,
her Campaign Cabinet, our Board
of Trustees, and the thousands of
volunteers, companies, and foundations
who invest in our arts and cultural
institutions. In the coming months,
ArtsWave will invest those dollars in
more than 100 arts organizations across
Greater Cincinnati, but the story doesn’t
end there.
Yes, ArtsWave is the region’s largest
Funder of the arts, but that’s just one
role that we play. As a Connector, we
bring people together through the arts
with fun workplace campaigns and
exciting experiences. As an Aggregator,

we gather stories and data about the
collective impact of the arts on our
region. As a Partner, we team up with
arts organizations, businesses, and
leading civic organizations to leverage
that impact for the good of all. In our
funding, storytelling, and strategy,
ArtsWave amplifies the power of the
arts in our community.
No one person can contribute
enough to sustain more than 100 arts
organizations. No one arts organization
can bring arts experiences to everyone
who lives here. The ArtsWave story
is one of collective action by the
community, for the community. It’s the
story of tens of thousands of people
giving what they can to make our region
an amazing place to live. When we see
how our region is growing and thriving
because of your investment in the arts,
we know that’s ArtsWave in Action.

2014’S FOUR
BIG GOALS:
1
1
To raise $12 million in
contributions
2014’S BURNING QUESTION:
How does each contribution to
ArtsWave make a difference for
the community? With the help
of marketing experts from P&G,
POSSIBLE, and Stanard Design, we
developed a new marketing campaign
that brings the impact of the arts to life:
ArtsWave in Action.
2
2
To attract more than
40,000 gifts
3
3
To increase engagement
and excitement in
workplace campaigns
ArtsWave in Action helps community
members connect the dots between
their gift to ArtsWave and their personal
experience of the impact of the arts.
In print, digital, and social media, the
ArtsWave in Action message and images
inspired donors to take action for their
community. The results were for the
record books.

We are thrilled to announce more than $12 million in contributions –
the highest amount ever raised by any community campaign for the arts
in the country. Cincinnati is at an unprecedented tipping point: from the
Banks to Over-the-Rhine to our thriving suburbs on both sides of the
river, people are participating in the arts like never before. And it’s been
inspiring to see how companies, individuals, and new partners have
come together to support the arts.

ArtsPass in 2014; over 3,000 offers have
been downloaded from the ArtsPass
website over the past year.
Leadership Giving
An increase in leadership giving
also contributed to the success of
the campaign, with more than 1,000
individuals giving $1,500 or more. With
support from generous challenge grants
from the Carol Ann and Ralph V. Haile,
Jr./U.S. Bank Foundation and P&G,
ArtsWave secured 272 new leadership
gifts. In addition, ArtsWave launched
the Women’s Leadership Roundtable to
encourage investment and interaction by
women leaders in and for the arts.
Young Professional Engagement
ArtsWave’s Young Professional donor
circle more than doubled in size in
2014, growing to 3,564 YPs contributing
$488,097. To better connect these
donors with the region’s myriad
cultural and civic opportunities,
ArtsWave introduced the
CincYPerks program for YP donors
in collaboration with C-Change
Class 8 of the Cincinnati USA
Regional Chamber. Exclusive
offers and activities are built into the
program, which functions as a unique
clearinghouse for engaging YPs in arts
and entertainment.
Amazing Arts Race
Thirty-five teams from 41 companies
competed in ArtsWave’s 2014 Amazing
Arts Race for young professionals. More
than 100 participants from Fifth Third
Bank, Kroger, Macy’s, GE Aviation, and
more followed clues in this one-of-a-kind
arts scavenger hunt. Stops along this
year’s course included Kennedy Heights
Arts Center, the Taft Museum of Art,
Elementz, and Know Theatre.

At the same time workplace
campaigns were kicked into high
gear, ArtsWave expanded its reach
to donors outside the office. Events
like Macy’s Arts Sampler and special
promotions with the Cincinnati Reds and
local restaurants provided fun ways for
everyone to support and engage with
the arts.

organizations. Events included arts from
many world cultures including Japanese
choral music, African drumming, and
Russian folk dancing.

Toast “2” the Arts!
For the first time, more than 20 local
restaurants, bars and hotels supported
the campaign by offering two specially
selected “ArtsWave wines” on their
menus and donating $2 from the sale of
every glass to the campaign. ArtsWave
helped promote the businesses, making
it a win-win for everyone. Participating
establishments included Nada, Jean

For the first time, ArtsWave enlisted

A VIBR ANT REGIONAL
ECONOMY
“We consider the Covedale Center to
be one of the anchors offering this site
an exceptional competitive advantage.
The theater consistently draws tens of
thousands of people from throughout
the region. Their audiences have long
been contributors to the neighborhood
economy and in effect contributors to the
neighborhood’s revitalization.”

“…Manifest’s shows bring 200-300
potential customers from outside the

business almost 2 years now and chose
to locate my business in East Walnut
Hills specifically because of Manifest
Gallery’s presence.”
– Shawna Guip, Owner,

“My job at the Oxford Visitors Bureau
is to help promote a place that both
welcomes visitors and encourages
tourism in our community. When
somebody says, “Oh, yeah, Oxford has
that cool Shakespeare-y thing going on”
that puts Oxford on the map and gives
us something to be proud of… we plan
to continue our partnership with OCAC
and Cincinnati Shakespeare in the Park
every summer, indefinitely.”
– Jessica Greene, Executive Director,
Oxford Visitors Bureau
A MORE CONNECTED
COMMUNITY
“I liked when there were 240 dudes
in the room together in the Boychoir
because there were more friends to
make. I believe that we could make
a song that would make the worst of
enemies into the best of friends.”
– Aiden, age 10, Cincinnati Boychoir

BUILDING CAPACITY IN
THE ARTS
In addition to grants, ArtsWave provides
local arts organizations with access
to shared resources, volunteers, and
workshops with local and national
experts. Regular convenings give arts
organizations and professionals the
chance to collaborate and share best
practices. More than 300 local business
professionals have received board
training through ArtsWave’s BOARDway
Bound program and been matched with
more than three dozen different local
arts groups.
STR ATEGY IN ACTION
In addition to funding direct grants for arts organizations, ArtsWave also invests
in strategic initiatives to direct resources in alignment with broader community
goals. In 2014, ArtsWave announced three initiatives relating to neighborhood
development, community health, and arts education.
LISC and Place Matters
”
In May, ArtsWave
announced a new
partnership with LISC
Greater Cincinnati and
Northern Kentucky to
support arts activities
in five Place Matters
neighborhoods in the
coming year. ArtsWave
awarded $45,000 in grants
to LISC’s designated
community revitalization
organizations in Avondale,
Covington, Madisonville,
Price Hill, and Walnut
Hills. Each Place Matters
neighborhood will use the
funds to contract with arts
organizations supported
by ArtsWave, or to support
activities that include
community-building arts
programs. Projects range
from a Jazz and BBQ
Festival in Madisonville,
to arts exhibits and
acting classes for youth
to encourage peaceful
conflict resolution in
Avondale, to performances

schools.
Interact for Health and
Join the Fun
In February, ArtsWave
partnered with Interact
for Health in the launch
of its “Join the Fun”
program, a series of
community events to
motivate residents of
all ages to “get moving”
and to build social
connections. Together, the
organizations provided
$300,000 in funding to 21
organizations, including 4
arts organizations. Join the
Fun arts activities included
the Cincinnati Ballet’s
Cincy Dances public dance
event in Washington Park,
among others.
Arts Education Audit
ArtsWave, in conjunction
with The Greater Cincinnati
Alliance for Arts Education
(GCAAE), has partnered
with Cincinnati Public
Schools and Newport
Independent Schools and
Covington Independent
Public Schools in Northern
Kentucky to conduct an
Arts Education Community
Audit.
The process is based on
the “Community Audit for
Arts Education” model,
created by The Kennedy
Center in Washington,
D.C. and has been
conducted in a number
of school districts across
the country. Information
gathered from survey
data, interviews and
community conversations
will be compiled into a final
report in the summer of
2014. This audit will give
the community a clearer
picture of how much
access local students have
to arts programs inside
and outside the classroom,
and where opportunities
exist to increase students’
access to the arts.
We typically think of the arts in terms of enrichment and self-expression, but
they are also a great tool for building community. We’re so excited to have this
opportunity to bring together diverse populations in East, West and Lower
Price Hill, building cohesion through the shared experience of watching and
participating in live performances.
