Dear Friends,
OUR MISSION
The Bronxville School Foundation
was incorporated in 1991 to enhance the
quality of public education in our community by
engaging the support and energies of educators,
citizens, parents, students and alumni. The Foundation
awards grants for projects that:
•
Strengthen the curriculum by serving as a catalyst
for the development and promotion of innovative
programs.
• Support additional training for faculty members and
enhance educational resources available to them.
• Provide financial assistance for special school
facilities and equipment.
• Increase awareness and support for
the school.
CELEBRATING 25 YEARS!
This year the Foundation marked its 25th Anniversary
with a Spring Swing event. Close to 500 guests from the
Bronxville School and the Bronxville community, including
Foundation founders and past leadership, celebrated 25
years of working in partnership to achieve the Foundation’s
mission. The event raised $140,000 and showcased the
community commitment that makes Bronxville so special.
The Foundation is celebrating 25 years of
an extraordinary partnership that
brings together Bronxville families, teachers,
students and administrators to make
the Bronxville School the best it can be.
Together, our work helps the school
deliver on the Bronxville Promise to encourage
students to create, innovate, lead and engage.
Every year through our grants process, the Foundation asks teachers,
administrators - and even students and parents - to submit ideas for ways
to enhance learning. They generate grant proposals for new curricula,
technology, teacher training, updated facilities, special equipment and
more. Finally, our generous donors - school families, community members
and alumni - respond to our annual fundraising appeals and provide the
resources to turn the best grant proposals into reality.
Donations made last year funded a STEM immersion program for our Middle
Schoolers in June, and a “MakerSpace” in the Elementary School Library this
fall. Teachers in all three schools received training in Project-Based Learning,
which enables them to create real world problem-solving opportunities
for students. Those are just a few of the more than 40 projects funded by
Foundation grants in 2016.
We are grateful to our donors and pledge to continue to uphold our end of
the partnership: to surface, research and fund ideas that put donations to
work as quickly and as wisely as possible. We are looking forward to the next
25 years of partnering for progress. Please join us, we can’t do it without YOU!

2016 Lighthouse Award Recepient
The Bronxville School
was founded in 1922 as a
Lighthouse School, dedicated to the
ideal that children are unique individuals
with a right to an education that helps them
achieve their highest potential at every stage
of their development. In 1999, the Foundation
established the Lighthouse Award. Each year
the award goes to members of the junior class
who exemplify the school’s educational ideals of
enthusiasm for learning, pride of accomplishment,
self-discipline, self-esteem and consideration for
the ideas and values of others. Voted on by his
classmates and faculty, Charlie Vorbach is the
2016 Lighthouse Award Recipient. A student
like Charlie possesses the qualities of
mind, spirit and service that the
Foundation supports.
Our district has established the Bronxville
Promise as our guiding vision, designed to
bring out the best in all students. We
are anchoring this vision in our culture,
our programs, and the way we do business.
Along the way the Bronxville School
Foundation has made a critical difference
in this process: as we move from awareness to
understanding, as we take steps to apply
these ideas in the classroom, Foundation grants have strengthened our
students’ capacity to innovate, lead, think critically and engage the world.
Our partnership with the Foundation continues to be a catalyst for change.
This year we expect to launch a new five-year facilities plan, and the
collaborative design process will be partially subsidized by the Foundation.
We are also taking a serious look at the climate for learning at the Middle
and High Schools. By surveying the perceptions of our students, we can
assess the extent to which school norms and expectations support the
Bronxville Promise. The Foundation is also funding this Stanford-based
research project. These are but two examples of how our partnership with
the Foundation adds value to the work we do.

The Foundation has four primary sources of funds: the Annual Fund
Drive, Alumni Drive, the Katie Welling Memorial Run, and the Alumni
Brick Walk. Thanks to the generosity of our community, total
contributions for 2016, including Spring Swing, were $732,339.

Alumni Walk
