Bob Turner, President of Sales, hosted the event together with Azteca America CEO Martin Breidsprecher and Azteca CEO Mario San Román. “This has been one of our most successful upfront events to date,” said Martin. “We have an exciting lineup and new additions to our team that are expected to bring strong results.” Bob expects to make about 125 one-on-one meetings with clients and agencies through the fall. The network expects to increase the number of infront visits by about 20% from the visits that were made last year. “We think that our Infront/Upfront formula provides the best of both worlds for clients, “ he said. “The infronts allow us to share the details, especially multiplatform and product integration options, that clients are demanding. And there’s nothing like a celebration in New York.” The programming presented includes more local shows, specifically the morning programs Coffee Break and Entre Nos, as well as a strong reality show lineup, including the return of musical reality hit La Academia and Survivor-style La Isla, as well as new formats that feature dancing throughout the country. Also expect more novelas and extended new coverage that includes hourly news briefs in a lead up to our network news Noticiero Azteca. AzA Gazette The Azteca America Newsletter 2 Looking Ahead to 2013-2014 As we move into the 2013-2014 season, which is highlighted by an intense schedule of infront presentations and an upfront celebration in NY, now is an impor tant moment to reflect on the development of our network with activities that go beyond our business. We’re strengthening our positioning as a responsible corporate citizen in the communities where we operate. Recent and coming events include the Ronald McDonald Walk in Los Angeles, the El Paso Run/ Walk for Autism and a series of immigration forums in Los Angeles, Miami, Houston and Chicago, to name a few. Being an active par ticipant of the communities where we operate is a fundamental value of Azteca America. We look forward to sharing continued successes at Azteca America. With sports icons Luis Garcia, Antonio Rosique and Aline Arnot, the show promises to continue to be a point of reference in sports commentary. “We’re launching a new image, we’re celebrating, we’re in our anniversary month, we’re two years old and we have a look that’s new, state-of-the-art, dynamic, irreverent, crazy, it’s our premiere,” said Luis Garcia during the show. Now with coverage of new sports that appeal to Latino viewers, Deporte Caliente continues to be a brand dedicated to show only the best in sports. Antonio Rosique, Aline Arnot and Luis García AzA Gazette 3 The Azteca America Newsletter Azteca America Teams Up With Zócalo Public Square for Series of Town Hall Meetings on Immigration Azteca America is pleased to announce a series of town hall meetings organized in conjunction with Zócalo Public Square in the cities of Los Angeles, Miami, Houston and Chicago. The first event, entitled: “What Would Immigration Reform Mean for Los Angeles?” was held on Wednesday, May 1 at The California Endowment. The conference was moderated by Roberto Suro, Director,The Tomás Rivera Policy Institute at USC, and include panelists UCLA Graduate School of Education Dean Marcelo Suárez-Orozco, USC sociologist Manuel Pastor, and UC Berkeley School of Public Health California Program on Access to Care Director Gilbert Ojeda. “We are delighted to be working with Zócalo Public Square to deepen the dialogue on this issue that is so crucial to the future of this country,” said Luis J. Echarte, Chairman of Azteca America. The Miami forum was held on May 10, with Houston and Chicago forums scheduled for June 6 and June 18, respectively. Panelists and moderators are distinguished faculty, media and members of US Congress, as well as policy leaders from the White House. AzA Gazette The Azteca America Newsletter 4 Azteca America Walks for Kids Azteca America Los Angeles participated earlier this month for the third time in the annual Ronald McDonald Walk for Kids 5k Walk. Our talent from Coffee Break: Adriana Yañez, Naibe Reynoso and Carlos Magaña and Patricia Arbulu of Entre Nos were on hand to help raise funds and awareness for the services and programs provided by Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern California. The mission of Ronald McDonald House Charities is to create, find and support programs that directly improve the health and well being of children. Azteca America Los Angeles also partnered this month with Neighborhood Legal Services, a nonprofit organization that helps the community with information on how to solve legal problems at low cost or no cost. During a community event, Azteca America Los Angeles reached out to more than 50,000 people, bringing us closer to our audience and helping transform lives and improve communities. Check out the added features like an updated design and an adaptive interface that allows viewers to get the most from their experience on PCs, tablets and smartphones. The new design is bolder, with more space dedicated to graphics. A cross domain bar has also been added to increase audience traffic by offering a broader range of themes through specialized microsites. Aztecaamerica.com also updates tools that allow the efficient monitoring of advertising campaigns. AzA Gazette The Azteca America Newsletter 6 Azteca America Supports 5th Annual El Paso Run/Walk for Autism Once again, Azteca America was a sponsor for the Annual El Paso/ Walk for Autism. The event, held in April, attracted over 1,000 participants, with proceeds supporting the Autism Society of El Paso and autism awareness throughout the El Paso/Juarez/Las Cruces area. Azteca America teamed up with local affiliate KVIA, which airs Azteca America on channel 7.4 alongside its ABC programming, to promote the event. “We’re excited to be returning to the El Paso Run/Walk for Autism for the second consecutive year,” said Azteca America CEO Martin Breidsprecher. “It’s a great way to raise autism awareness in the community among children, families and professionals.” AzA Gazette 7 The Azteca America Newsletter “Issues: Caras y Voces” Returns With a Focus on Immigration Reform “Issues: Caras y Voces,” a special weekly news segment hosted by veteran Washington correspondent Armando Guzmán, is back on air during the Friday broadcasts of the Noticiero Azteca America national newscast.The segment focuses on the issue of immigration reform and the people behind it. “Azteca America has been an instrumental voice of representation for the Latino community in Washington and we’re delighted to announce the relaunch of this influential segment,” said Luis J. Echarte, Chairman of Azteca America. “We’re at a historical moment in the immigration debate and we have to make sure that viewers are informed of what policy makers are putting on the table.” Beginning March 15 at 5 pm/ 4pm CST, the first segment highlighted the participation of Congressman Luis Gutierrez (DIL) and his campaign for immigrant issues to be included in the reforms. Congressman Gutierrez has long been one of the most outspoken voices for Latino rights in Congress and a firm believer in very progressive immigration reform. Armando Guzman has interviewed numerous US presidents and vice presidents, as well as world figures such as Mikhail Gorbachev, Boris Yeltsin, Lech Walesa, Nelson Mandela, Yasser Arafat, Margaret Thatcher, Tony Blair and countless Latin American presidents. As a war correspondent, he was the first Latino journalist to ever broadcast from the USS Air Carrier Theodore Roosevelt during the 2001 US invasion of Afghanistan. He has been recognized by numerous organizations for his journalistic contributions, including the Edward R. Murrow award in 1996 and the “Premio Nacional de Periodismo,” Mexico’s National Journalism Award, for his coverage of the September 11 attacks. AzA Gazette The Azteca America Newsletter 8 Khaled Abdelwahed Appointed VP, General Manager of Azteca 54 in Los Angeles US Ad Agencies Visit Azteca America Khaled Abdelwahed has been appointed Vice President, General Manager of Azteca 54, our flagship full-power station in Los Angeles. “Khaled has proven his leadership and performance abilities at Azteca 54 in his prior role as General Sales Manager and we are pleased to have his hardworking and results- driven character as General Manager of Azteca 54,” said Martin Breidsprecher, CEO of Azteca America. Mr. Abdelwahed has an extensive career of over 25 years in both the advertising and media business in Los Angeles. In media he has worked in executive sales positions in radio and television. Before his appointment as GM, he was General Sales Manager of Azteca 54 since 2008. Prior to that, Mr. Abdelwahed worked for Univision as a GSM and LSM for seven years. Thanks to an invitation from Azteca America, on March 1st, executives from the major ad agencies of the US visited the studios of TV Azteca. Once we arrived to the facilities, our guests enjoyed a presentation of Azteca America’s current programming and the upcoming premiers as well as a video of the Product integration opportunities and New Media. Through the presentations they met with the creative team that designs the solutions to their needs. These unique solutions are what makes us different from our competitors. After breakfast, the executives visited the News, Sports and Entertainment divisions, where they were able to meet and greet Azteca talent. After that, they made a visit to Azteca Novelas. They were very impressed with the new studios and they had a chance to meet Edith Gonzalez, Humberto Zurita and Ramiro Fumazoni, stars of the novela “Vivir a Destiempo”.
