SPECIALTY JUDGE: Mr. Jurgen Rosner Oelmuhle 42699 Solingen, Germany
With my partner Jürgen Papenfuss I started in Irish Wolfhounds in the year 1973. In those days
Wolfhounds were very scarce and hard to come by. We knew next to nothing about the breed, so after
putting ourselves on the long waiting list with Mr. and Mrs. Jenkins of Eaglescrag fame for a dog
puppy, we decided this could be too strong and unmanageable for us.
We changed it for a bitch which meant an even longer wait; I think it was altogether over two years.
Finally we collected our puppy in 1973 though there was not much to choose from, because the bitch
CH Eaglescrag Colleen of Boroughbury had just one puppy. The father was CH Eaglescrag Fintan.
She developed nicely into a tall strong girl and got a First in Open Bitches at her first outing at the
Ierdee Club Show. A year later she was joined by another Fintan daughter, Quethiok Sceptre. Her
mother CH Aelius Elfreda was twice a winner at Crufts. The two Fintan daughters were the foundation
bitches of our Kennel ´“von der Oelmühle“. Our first male was CH Wellandscroft Flynn, a son of the
legendary CH Petasmeade Chieftain of Brabyns. Flynn sired his last litter after two years’ abstinence
at the ripe old age of ten years, possibly the record in this breed.
In all those years we kept close contact, even making friends with many of the old breeders, trying to
learn as much as possible from them, watching them judge and going to all the big shows in Britain.
We relied on the expert judgement of longstanding breeders - Ruth and Leslie Jenkins of ‘Eaglescrag’,
‘Brabyns’, Mesdames Harrison and Atfield, ‘Sanctuary’ and the friendly advice of Bill Siggers of
‘Ouborough’. The co-operation in later years with Dagmar Kenis – Pordham ‘Solstrand’ and Pamela
and Jim Paloma ‘Erinwood’, combined with the exchange of stud dogs, resulted in many fine
Wolfhounds.
My judging of the two breeds, Scottish Deerhounds and Irish Wolfhounds, started in the beginning
of 1982. I’ve judged as breeder-judge at championship shows like Bundessieger and Europasieger,
important shows like Paris and Vienna, Club shows in England, Ireland, North Ireland, Scandinavia,
the Netherlands, Switzerland and the United States in the west and on the east coast.
I am also invited to judge the forthcoming World Show in Stockholm, Sweden this year.
In over 30 years we have bred more than 300 champions: German and international in 19 different
countries, 12 world winners, over 40 Bundes- and Europasieger, BIS at our 2 biggest shows like
Bundessieger and Europasieger, countless group winners and BIS at specialties. Oelmühle hounds are
exported to 24 countries.
In 2007 I was honoured by the German Kennel Club (VDH) for our outstanding breeding of Irish
Wolfhounds over many years, and awarded the Baron von Gingins medal.
I’m looking forward to seeing your dogs in your part of the world.
SWEEPSTAKES JUDGE: SUSAN ANDREWS 12 Bishop Court, Orangeville, ON L9W 5G6
Susan Andrews began her study of the Irish Wolfhound in the late 1980s while completing her Psychology and Education degrees. Research and breeder introductions opened a window into a different
world and the next couple of decades were filled with learning and adventure around these special
companions. While Wolfhounds remain a fixture, recent years have focused more upon family and
career. Susan is currently pursuing a long-held ambition of combining her love of Wolfhounds and
learning by bringing Wolfhounds into her school library as reading therapists.

feels that no hound entered in this class has the desired
degree of excellence and efficiency of movement to deserve
the award.
This is an unofficial class sponsored by the Irish Wolfhound
Club of Canada. This class was started in response to
the wishes of Mrs. C.P. Wear, judge of the 1973 IWCC
Specialty, due to her strong feelings about the importance
of a typical head as a distinguishing feature of the breed.

NOTICE TO ALL FOREIGN EXHIBITORS
All dogs that are foreign-born and foreign-owned and enter Canada for the sole purpose of
entering CKC events will require an Event Registration Number (ERN). This ERN does
not register a dog with the CKC for breeding purposes but rather enables a foreign-born
and foreign-owned dog to be awarded titles by the Canadian Kennel Club. Each dog must
have its own number.
TO OBTAIN AN ERN SIMPLY DO THE FOLLOWING:
Send a photocopy of the dog’s Registration Certificate reflecting current ownership with
a written request for an ERN. Include your payment in the full amount of $58.30 in
Canadian funds.
Payment may be made with VISA or MasterCard, personal or business cheque or money
order. For NON-MEMBERS, please note that if paying by cheque, the cheque must be
CERTIFIED. Non-residents of Canada, please note that discounted cheques or money
orders will not be accepted due to fluctuating currency rates.
Provide a full return address and telephone number. Faxed requests will be accepted.
Please ensure that your VISA or MasterCard number is legible and you have included your
expiry date and signature. An ERN must be obtained within 30 days of obtaining points,
awards or scores to avoid cancellation. If factors beyond your control prohibit this or
present a problem, please send a written request for a 30 day extension.
