Konnichiwa Kawaii Tokyo Travelers!
One of our frequently asked questions is where
to find Studio Ghibli goods / everything
Totoro. Here are some of our tips for your Ghibli hoarding!
You can buy original merch from KIDDYLAND Harajuku and from chosen Village Vanguard branches.
When I visited Kyoto, I discovered a “Donguri
Garden” shop. They also have one in Tokyo Station (Tokyo Character Street area). : )

Asakusa + Tokyo Sky Tree
in One Day
If you don’t know what to do for the whole day
in Tokyo, I highly recommend a whole day trip
in Asakusa and Tokyo Sky Tree.
You can do a lot of sightseeing at Asakusa and
you can visit the famous temples and shrines. If
you are a Japanese culture fan, you will love
this place. Special icecream flavors, lots of Japanese souvenirs, yummy street food are just a
few of my favorites here! ^^
You can check more photos using this tag from my
blog~ ^^
That pretty girl at the right is our friend,
Carly!
Asakusa (浅草) is the center of Tokyo‘s shitamachi (literally “low city”), one of Tokyo’s
districts, where an atmosphere of the Tokyo
of past decades survives.
Asakusa’s main attraction is Sensoji, a very
popular Buddhist temple, built in the 7th century. The temple is approached via the
Nakamise, a shopping street that has been providing temple visitors with a variety of traditional, local snacks and tourist souvenirs
for centuries.
Asakusa can easily be explored on foot. Alternatively, you can consider a guided tour on a
rickshaw (jinrikisha, literally “man powered
vehicle”). A 30 minute tour for two persons
costs around 8000yen. Shorter and longer
courses are also available.
[Access Guide]
Asakusa is served by the Ginza Subway Line,
Asakusa Subway Line, Tsukuba Express and Tobu
Railways. It can also be accessed by the
Tokyo Water Bus.
From Tokyo Station
Take the JR Yamanote Line to Kanda Station (2
minutes, 140 yen) and transfer to the Ginza
Subway Line for Asakusa (10 minutes, 170
yen).
From Shinjuku Station
Take the orange JR Chuo Line to Kanda Station
(10 minutes, 170 yen) and transfer to the Ginza Subway Line for Asakusa (10 minutes, 170
yen).

After spending the morning around Asakusa area,
you can visit the Tokyo Sky Tree which is just
nearby. Take the train TOBU SKYTREE LINE from
Tokyo Skytree Station. Click here for the access
guide / train map~
The Tokyo Skytree (東京スカイツリー) is a new television broadcasting tower and landmark ofTokyo.
It is the centerpiece of the Tokyo Skytree
Town in the Sumida City Ward, not far away
fromAsakusa. With a height of 634 meters (634
can be read as “Musashi”, a historic name of
the Tokyo Region), it is the tallest building
in Japan and the second tallest structure in
the world at the time of its completion. A
large shopping complex with aquarium is located at its base.

Ashley and I posted a blog entry about Tokyo Sky
Tree before too! : ) Tokyo Solamachi is a mustvisit shopping / entertainment area. Lots of
kawaii characters to hoard in this area so pockets, beware!
Tokyo Solamachi (lit. “Tokyo Sky Town”) is
the large shopping, dining and entertainment
complex at the base of the Tokyo Skytree. It
features over 300 established and original
shops and restaurants and would be well worth
a visit even without Japan’s tallest tower on
top of it.
Solamachi offers a wide variety of shops that
include many unique establishments specialized in goods such as salt from across Japan
and the world, food samples and traditional
Tokyo crafts. An entire floor with original
souvenir shops offering character goods, Japanese interior design and snacks, should be of
particular interest to foreign tourists. Of
course, there are also official Tokyo Skytree
Shops.
The complex also houses a large food market,
food court and four floors filled with interesting restaurants, including the two top
floors of the Skytree East Building that enjoy nice views onto the Skytree. Additional
time can be spent at the attractive Sumida
Aquarium, the Tenku planetarium (no English
provided) and in the multiple small green
spaces and terraces found across the complex.
The Postal Museum was newly opened in March
2014 on the ninth floor of Solamachi East. It
has a wide collection of stamps from all over
the world, as well as interactive displays
and exhibits showing the history of the postal services in Japan.
Click here for their English Tokyo Solamachi website! : )
These photos are from Tree Village Tokyo. : )
They also have Rilakkuma Store, Donguri Kyowakoku (All Things Studio Ghibli), Hello Kitty
Japan, Nanoblock Store, and so much more. This
link will be helpful for you!
Too cute huhu!
Ashley and I love Nana’s so much and we’re sure
that you will LOVE the food / matcha parfaits /
soft icecream here as well!
We made a separate post about Nanaha. #MatchaFanGirls haha
Be@rbrick fans will surely love Tokyo Sky Tree
because Medicom has its own store there! <3
If you’ve been to Tokyo Sky Tree / Asakusa before, what were your favorite shops / experiences? Please do let us know below! : )
