Feng Shui collection
SINGAPORE – LIULIGONGFANG, renowned for its pate-de-verre technique used in glass
making, is making a debut collection of artworks that is integrated with Feng Shui elements.
This collection comprises eleven sculptures that are believed to enable one to be in harmony
with one’s environment when they are placed at homes or in offices.
The core concept of Feng Shui calls for human beings to be adaptable to environmental
changes around us. This is especially so in our fast-paced environment where changes are
part and parcel of life. Hence, it is crucial that human beings have to learn to cope with
changes in order to survive. With this, LIULIGONGFANG’s latest nature-inspired Feng Shui
collection hopes that people can gain strength from nature and to remain calm even in times
of adversity.
The artwork named “Great Luck, Great Yield” depicts a cabbage with leaves layered and
curled, bold and supple, green and lush. With a lifelike grasshopper perched on the cabbage,
the overall design recalls the shape of taiji, which represents harmony. This shows the
interaction between life and nature, which is interdependent on one another.
Another one of LIULIGONGFANG’s creations, “Happiness Comes with Upflowing Qi” shows a
vivid goldfish swimming freely in the foreground. Appearing to leap out of the water, the other
intaglio fish is obscured. As light fluctuates, the fish travels in and out of visibility just as the
polished surface magnifies it. In the middle, an ample circle in the shape of a taiji conveys
auspicious harmony. Goldfish, on the other hand, is homonymous with “golden jade” in
mandarin, which is a propitious coincidence. The cycle of heaven and earth gives birth to yin
and yang, accumulating a house of gold and jade. Hence, placing this in your living room or in
your office invites good fortune.
1 Notches on a bamboo are recreated in the “Ambition” design. With formidable momentum
and confident assurance, this piece is a spring of perpetual vitality. Its rising strength brings
harmony to all matters and all persons.
Inspired by classic mythological beasts, “Traversing Miles of Wind and Cloud” depicts bi xi,
one of the dragon’s nine sons, straddling heaven and earth upon a crested wave. The open
semi-circle design is a cache for the aura of heaven and earth and contains the spirit of all
living creatures.
“Convergence of Heroics” shows two lions holding either ends of a ribbon with their feet
resting upon a colourful ball. During the imperial times, lions are associated with high officials.
Thus, lions become a metaphor for professional promotion when used in our context of work.
The two lions also represent two generations, a metaphor for circle of life.
In everyday life, Feng Shui is the manifestation of the lifestyle and wisdom of the Chinese.
Feng Shui will never be dated or disconnected from time; it exhibits vitality through a timeless
approach. Hence, with the New Year 2012 approaching, LIULIGONGFANG hopes you enjoy

LIULIGONGFANG is China’s premier glass art practice devoted to the art of
producing Chinese glass art using Pâte-de-verreas a technique and LIULI as
a medium to express ideas in Chinese culture and history. Since its inception
in 1987, it has become very well received and expanded to close to 70
galleries around the world. The reason for this owes to the fanbase of
founders Loretta Hui-shan Yang, an award-winning Golden Horse award
actress and Chang Yi, a Golden Horse award director. They have merely
