Copyright© 2013 Orem, Utah June 2013 COMING EVENTS Issue #6 Auto Expo FJ Summit Ouray, Colorado July 17th-21st, 2013 Zukimelt Dirty Turtle Off Road Park, Bedford Kentucky July 11th-13th, 2013 For 25 years, the UVU Auto Expo has showcased hot cars, trucks and the institution’s vocational roots. Starting in 1983 with about 70 cars, the Expo has turned into one of Utah's Largest Car Shows–all for a great cause. Donating all proceeds to the University's Automotive Education Program, the event revs up students' careers and their future in the Automotive industry. On May 18th, 2013, Low Range OffRoad sponsored and attended the event this year to showcase some of our very own highly modified Suzuki's and Toyota's. We loved talking to everyone with a passion for their projects and cars. We hope to support many more events like this as we go into the future. Thanks for all who stopped by to say, “hello!” The Main Event Sponsored by Zookitoys.com Badlands Off Road Park Attica, Indiana July 11th-13th, 2013 Follow us on [1] 801-805-6644 Follow us on Facebook RIG OF THE MONTH June OWNER: Matthew Apps 16x8 beadlocked rims with 37x12.5 sticky Maxxis Trepadors with 2" wheel spacers. Other accessories: Race seats, 4 point harnesses, winches 1988.5 SUZUKI front and rear, lighting, etc. SIERRA SWB Does everything work the way you want? for a very simple and budget car against so many others the car performs great and opens my eyes and others at times. Suspension is the main let down for me but all due to lack of knowledge during building and setup more than product. I always set out to build a simple yet effective rig and am happy with the result. Anything you would change? Suspension. Now that I have learned more on paper and more so experienced the flaws of my setup I would do things a lot differently. I also plan to go to fox 2.0 coil-overs very soon. Also possibly change my steering to a double ended ram setup. Anything to add: keep an eye out for the next build ;) Toughest trail or obstacle? Too hard to pick a toughest trail as such. All have been very enjoyable and will continue to find harder I am sure. Tires and Wheels: Q: What is your job/role at Low Range Off-Road? For several months now we have been doing a “full rebuild” on a 1987 Suzuki Samurai for a customer named Joseph Hagel. We began by tearing it completely down to the tub and frame, and cleaning everything. ! We started our makeover with an all-new suspension we are calling “The Toy Swap”. This prototype suspension features 33” good year MTR tires, Toyota axles front and rear, with all the goodies; including ARB Air Lockers, Trail-Gear Rear Rock Assault Housing, and Chromoly axle shafts. Steering enhancements include Trail Gear Hi-Steer and hydro-assist steering; with an Sidekick steering box that was tapped and mounted on a Petroworks wedge box mount. ! We swapped the 1.3L OEM motor for a 2.0L from a 2000 Suzuki Vitara. We got our wiring harness, as well as a lot of tech help, from Sean at Aftermarket 4X4. ! We upgraded the drive train by installing a Low Range Off-Road rebuilt transmission supported by our all new LROR high clearance transmission cross member. The T-Case is a LROR 4.16:1 rebuild with an upgraded front output shaft. It is held up by our EOS T-Case Cradle and sports a Spidertrax E-brake kit. ! We started on the interior with a new carpet kit; Corbeau Seats adapted to the floorboard with our LROR Seat Brackets. We then added a custom rear signal seat, offset to the passenger side. All passengers are protected by a custom built, fully bolt–in, interior roll cage. We finished out the interior with white face gauges and a Pioneer stereo system. ! Finally, we protected the front and rear of the project with our all-new Defiance Armor Bumpers. The front bumper is fitted with a very capable Enco 9000 LB winch with a synthetic rope and the rear bumper features inset LED Lights and a custom swing-out tire carrier. The sides are protected by our LROR Rock Sliders which feature convenient and safe foot treads. We have had a lot of fun building this “Sami” and hope that Joseph has just as much fun driving it.
