The
Head of Primary says ...
2014, a year filled with fun, changes
and exciting plans for 2015.
During 2014, we welcomed Ms Kankowski-Jacobs to Grade 1A, Mr Ambambi as the Grade 5 Science and Mathematics teacher and
from the second trimester, Ms Reinstorf, as the German teacher as well as Ms Riëth Nel, as the Grade 5 to 7 music teacher.
It was sad to bid farewell to Ms Wessels and Mr Ambambi in December as they moved on to St George’s and Delta respectively. We
are grateful for the value that they added to our school and wish them every success in the coming years.

The first year of a double Grade 5 group.
The Primary Concert had an international and vibrant flavour.
Public Speaking became a favourite addition to the drama lessons with pupils from Grade 1 to 7 leaving us in awe of their skills.
We ranked higher at the Science Fair than in 2013.
An innovative Entrepreneurship and Creativity Evening revealed hidden potential.
Successful athletic, hockey, cricket and swimming performances.
The long awaited gardening project began.
The even longer awaited renovation of our Reception office area took place.
Permission was granted to complete the expansion of the Primary School a year ahead of time in terms of doubling-up our Grades.
Past pupils from our Primary School achieved many academic and sporting successes at High School.
Many of our Grade 1 pupils from 2003 and 2004 were selected as SMC members.
The Grade 1 pupils from 2003 matriculated with excellent results.
We attracted excellent staff for 2015.
Looking back at what was achieved, 2014 was a tiring, yet excellent year.
That which has been accomplished is only due to prayer, commitment and the
teamwork of the Head of Primary, staff, Board, PTFA, PPSG, parents and pupils.
Thank you for walking the sometimes rocky road with us, supporting
initiatives and sharing your concerns and ideas. We work towards a
common goal – raising a successful, confident child and that is best
done within a team. With this in place, 2015 will be a winning year.

Alone we can do so little;
together we can do so much.
Helen Keller
Teaching and Administrative Staff
The amazing staff of our Primary School made it a year of success once again.
The hard work and passionate hearts make the difference in so many young lives.
What really makes us a strong group is the strength we find in God and the support
we give each other.

What is soft? Snowflakes are soft.
They dazzle and shimmer in the sunlight.
What is crashing? The sea is crashing
When it falls on the sandy beach.
What is smooth? The stream is smooth
As it falls down the mountain side.
What is shiny? A waterfall is shiny.
It glitters down the green mountain.
What is noisy? Rain is noisy.
It pops on the silver roof.
What is peaceful? The river is peaceful
As it goes down the lovely hill.
What is lovely? The wavy sea is lovely
As it crashes on the shell beach.
What is water? Why, the sea is water
Where the dolphins squeak and
play in the waves.
What is see-through? A glass is see-through
While the hours go through.
What is shiny? The sun is shiny
On my shoe so tiny.
What is blue? The sky is blue.
Just like my glue.
What is hard? Ice is hard
On my card.
What is soft? Jelly is soft
In my loft.
What is clean? Water is clean
When I can dream.
What is bubbly? The water is bubbly
By Emma, Rutendo, Zoe, Anna and Zander
And the teddy is cuddly.
What is white? The clouds are white
In my sight.
Poem by: Florette Nakusera, Zoë Nott,

What is gentle? A drop is gentle
Falling from a bright green leaf.
What is clean?A waterfall is clean
Rushing down the rocky stream.
What is wavy? The sea is wavy
As it crashes on the sandy beach.
What is wonderful? A river is wonderful
As it flows through the sandy land.
What is blue? A pond is blue
As the swans float by.
What is dropping? The rain is dropping
Falling from the clouds in the sky.
What is fast? The water is fast
When it comes out of the tap.
What is water? Water is Life!
What is blue? The sea is blue
With the fish swimming through.
What is sparkling? A waterfall is sparkling,
Blue water falling down.
What is wavy? The water is wavy
While it is going crazy.
What is pattering? The rain is pattering
On the grey tin roof.
What is dangerous? A flood is dangerous
While flowing through the town.
What is gentle? Rain is gentle
With sparkling drops falling down.
What is loud? The thunder is loud
With rain crashing down.
What is water? Water is life.
It makes us feel good inside.

Grade 3
Science Fun Day
Today we did science experiments and it was awesome! For our experiments we did changing milk. For the changing colour milk
we needed: food colouring washing up liquid, droppers and a bowl. First we took the milk and poured it into a bowl. Then we took
the droppers and dropped the food colouring in the bowl of milk. After the changing colour milk, we did the speed boats. For that
we needed: one bucket, water, a triangle, cardboard, washing up liquid, a pencil, a ruler and scissors. The next one was dancing
currEnts. We needed: bicarb of soda, vinegar, water, a glass and one teaspoon. My favourite was the dancing currEnts.
Cadence
Today we had Science Fun Day. We did speed boats, changing colour milk and dancing currants.
My partner and I did not like the dancing currants. The one we liked the most
was the changing colour milk. It was very colourful. The speed boats were not such fun.
For the speed boats we had a bucket, water, triangle, cardboard, washing
up liquid, pencil, ruler and scissors.
For changing milk colour we had
food colouring, ear buds,
washing up liquid, droppers
and a bowl. For the
dancing currEnts
we had bicarb of
soda, vinegar, water,
a glass and a
teaspoon.
It was fun!

Grade 3 outing to N/áankusê
Which words are illegal in Grade 3, why?
One of our words that we are not allowed to use is the word “nice”. We use
stronger words like fine and delightful. Also, Miss Roth does not like it when we
start a sentence with “because”, she wants us to use the proper way.
Garren, Grade 3A
What did I enjoy most in
Grade 3?
One of the words we may not use in Grade 3 is “nice, because it is so boring.
Miss Roth taught us that there are so many other words that can be used like,
respectable, refined and gentle. We may also not use “because” at the beginning of
a sentence, because it is the rule of the English grammar.
Naritunge, Grade 3A
I enjoyed the outings and all the
experiments and projects we did
throughout the year. Once we went to
the Namib Breweries, we also did a planet
project and it had to be 3D.
Lazarus, Grade 3A
In Grade 3 you are not allowed to use the word “nice” because there are other
words you can use other than “nice”. You can use the word kind or polite instead
saying “nice”. In comprehension you are not allowed to begin a sentence with
because.
Helina, Grade 3A
We may never use the word nice because there are more than one million other
words better than “nice”. We may not use the word “because” in the beginning of
a sentence because Ms Roth reinforced that you may not and in English there just is
not something like that.
Emma, Grade 3A
The Grade 3A is not allowed to use the word “nice” because there are a lot more
words to describe something. Examples of other words are well mannered, friendly
and charming. We learned in Language that words that mean the same are called
Synonyms, but some words are more powerful than others.
Ramsay, Grade 3A
You must not use the word “nice” because there are better words than nice,
like awesome, cool and great. Also, you may not use the word “because” at the
beginning of a sentence. This is mainly for our comprehensions.
Ryan, Grade 3A
What did we enjoy most about the Readathon?
I like Grade 3 because it is fun. We play
lots of games. We have great friends to
play with. Sometimes after PE we get
to do anything we like which includes
reading, whispering, playing games and
colouring in. We go on lots of outing,
which is so cool. Miss Roth is a great
teacher.
Keasha, Grade 3A
I enjoyed the fun events like the
swimming gala because both teams did
their best and the fun races were very
funny because the Grade 7’s did the race
is costumes. The costumes were cat
woman, ninja turtle and Viking. I had
such a great laugh about that race.
Mikah, Grade 3A
I enjoyed the fabulous projects as my
favourite part and this year was building
the rocket with Ramsay. It was awesome.
I also had amazing classmates. I have the
best teacher ever.
Jett, Grade 3A
I liked the Readathon because we got to make trophies and we won the Readathon.
We will also be going to Naankuse. We are also going to wear civvies, which is the
most favourite thing for me.
Damian, Grade 3A
I loved the Readathon , is was so much fun. I enjoyed the dress up, it was lots of fun because we dressed smart. But the best part is
that we are going on an outing because we brought the most toys and other stuff. The outing will be at Naankuse.
Matthew, Grade 3A
The thing that I loved about Readathon is that we could give toys to little children who don’t have homes. We give these toys to kids
that have cleft palettes. The best is when the bell rang and we had to read, I could catch up reading. We loved it when we had to make
a trophy for another child, it was a secret. “AHHHHHH”
Nontombi, Grade 3A
What I enjoyed about the Readathon was we got to dress up fancy and we made trophies to give to another child. Everyone made one
for everyone even the Grade 7’s. My class won the Readathon and we are going to Naankuse.
Zabeth, Grade 3A
The Readathon was awesome because we won. We also had to read great books when a special bell rang. Ms Roth made us win,
so now we are going on a outing to Naankuse. I hope it will be awesome. But what is not so awesome is Jett is not going with to
Naankuse.
Connor, Grade 3A
I loved the prize giving and the whole week of reading most. But I am extremely proud of 3A for donationg at least one thing. I also
enjoyed making Mrs Koekemoer smile. Best year ever.
Shana, Grade 3A

Bushmen to see them make fire.
Matthew
When we were still at school Ms Roth divided the class into two groups,

Mikah
I liked N/a’anku sê it was super fun. We got to watch a
movie with three legged cheetah, it was sad and happy
at the same time. They also had to move the lion to
the leopard cage, because the lions eat a lot of food and
people throw over there old meat and other old food. So
the lions could get poisoned. First they shot the leopards
with sleeping darts and took tests to see if they were sick.
They took some of there blood and put it in a wierd thing.
The leopard gave easy shots. They shot the leopard in
the bum. The lion were a differte job. They were waiting
for the right shot but then out of nowere the hunter go a
socked and it made a sound like a dart gun then he shot
the female lion. Our tour guide’s name was Solomen.
First we went to see the leopards. It was amazing to see
two very camn leopards. Then our tour guide threw the

not see them. We were about to drive away but saw the
male lion and we saw the female lions. It was amazing.
On the way to the bush men school we saw lot of little
animals like warthog and bay spring buk and lot other
animals. We went to the school, they were very kind and
cute and they were very happy. They saw there things
we gave them. Then we went to some small cages we
say baby baboons and
adult baboons. They
were about 2,3, 4,5 or
6 inchs big. Then we
saw five cheetahs.
Then we saw a sick
wild dog. Then we
went to see the bush

very kind and there
babies were so

Ramsay
We went to N/a’anku sê on Thursday, October 16. Ms. Roth split class into two
groups and I was in group two. We took the bus to get there. When we got
there, group two watched a movie and group one went for a game drive. When
the movie was over group two went for a game drive. First, we went to see two
leopards. Then we went to see three lions, one was a male and the other two
were females. After that we went to the Bushman School but before we went
inside we went to see someone who told us facts about snakes. After he told
us about snakes he showed us a real snake – a puff adder – that had very pretty
patterns on its skin, then we went into the Bushman School. The teacher told
us what they did in the school, then, we went to see the Bushman who showed
us how they made their fire. They used small sticks and then they put
a spear on top of it. They had two bigger sticks, one had a hole and the
other one didn’t. They put the one stick into the stick that had a hole
and they rubbed it together until it made some dust. They put the dust
on the small stick then they blew until it made fire. After that, we could
buy things the bushman made. Then we went back to N/a’anku sê and we
had lunch. After lunch, we took lots of picture and then we came back to

A good gift to share
Flowers here, flowers there
flowers are born everywhere!
Green, orange, red and pink,
what colour flowers do you
think?
Flowers, flowers on your hair,
flowers, flowers on the chair,
flowers are a good gift to share!
Ebba, Grade 3A
Spring is here to play,
but it is not for the day.
But it is so much fun,
but it makes me want to run.
The stars are so sprinkle,
and it is so twinkle.
It looks like glue
but it is blue.
I feel like I can fly,
but I’m in the sky.
Ndinehafo, Grade 3A
It was with great excitement that the two Grade 3 classes climbed into the bus en route to Namibia Breweries. Thank you to the Grade
3A parent who arranged it!
Joyce, our tour leader, kitted us out in safety jackets and explained to us what THAT smell was. We went on a short tour of the premises, the highlight being watching the bottles moving on the conveyor belts. The children were amazed at how quickly they moved
without falling over. Unfortunately, we were too young to go into the actual distillery.
The outing concluded with a visit to the pub where the children were given tins of Vigo to drink. They thoroughly enjoyed themselves!
The bus trip back was quieter than the trip there! Thank you to Titus for driving us safely there and back.
The sun makes me run
on the juicy grass.
The king makes me swing
under the sun.
I try to fly like a butterfly
Spring makes me smile
and that is a beautiful thing.
Mariana, Grade 3A
The sunflower
I love the spring rain,
the colours green and yellow
drive me insane.
The flowers are so full of energy,
the trees bring back a lot of
memory.
Nikita, Grade 3A
If you could rule the school for a day, what changes would you make?
Everywhere you would go, there will be trees all around.
There will be a disco room where you would party every Friday to celebrate that it is weekend.
School starts on Wednesday and there is no homework!
Wherever you go you drive in a go-kart and if you crash you crash into trees and not into a classroom. If you want to
slide down to the media room, you would slide for 3km and you slide at the speed of two hundred miles per hour. At
the end of the slide you would land in chocolate and every class has a chocolate fountain and a smartboard, which is
linked to an iPad.

Excerpts from Hidden Treasure stories
Who lives in the tree?
One day there was a dog who lived with a bird in a tree. They were best friends.
In the morning the dog went to look for a bone. The bird went to look for worms. After they ate, they would
play together until they were tired. One day a bird came when they were playing. She asked if she can play.
They said yes. They played until it was time to sleep. She asked if she could sleep there. The bird said she
could. So they went to sleep. In the morning the bird went to bring worms for her and the other bird. The dog
went to bring his bone. They ate and played and lived happily ever after.
Carol
Once there lived a family called the Thomsons. They had two golden retrievers.
The Thomsons had to move to the U.S. but they couldn’t take Buddy or Ginger. They had to abandon them in
Kansas. Poor Buddy and Ginger! They decide to build a tree house on someone else’s land! They did not know
it was someone else’s land. They built a good tree house. The owner of the land (the farmer) found the tree
house. He was so mad there was smoke coming from his ears! He sent a message to the dogs. It said if you
want this piece of land, you will have to mess with me. The dogs did not want to fight, but they had no choice
so they said yes. It would be war. The dogs got pans as shields and pots as helmets. They used pencils as guns,
knives as swords and they were ready for war. When the dogs arrived, the farmer was there. He saw the dogs
and laughed so hard, he almost fell over. The dogs attacked him fast and won the war. The dogs lived happily
ever after.
Sofia
There was a family of a woman, man and child. They lived in a tree. Their names were Hazel, Andrew and
Wendy-Lee.
Hazel went shopping almost every day. They lived in the wild. Wendy-Lee’s room was at the top. It was the
smallest in the house. Hazel and Andrew lived next to her on top. Their house was almost the most beautiful
house in the world. It was very big and green. The bathroom was at the bottom. So was the kitchen. They had
a lot of food. They had ten bunnies, one dog and two birds. It was beautiful inside. I wish I could see it. The
dog stayed alive for five years, the birds stayed alive for four years and the bunnies stayed alive for six years.
They lived a long time and lived happily ever after.

Ur, my friends, it’s Captain Morgan. Once I was sailing
with my crew and I found an island and landed at Captain
Morgan’s gully.
When we found a way to go, we went through the Temple
of the Whale. There were whale bones everywhere and
my crew and I were very scared! Suddenly we found
a map of the island! Crew, we found the map of Dead
Island! Hooray and we partied like crazy.
Jason
This is the story about the cursed treasure. It started as
a wonderful day. My crew and I were sailing on the sea
when I saw a bottle. It was a treasure map!
Then my ship approached Shipwreck Point. I steered my
ship around the wrecked ships. Then half of my crew got
off and half stayed. Oh, my name is Captain Jack Sparrow.
We walked for three hours until we reached Petrifying
Forest.
Allan
Then my crew and I, Jack Sparrow, went through Hidden Village. We found skeletons lying on the sand. Jack Sparrow, which is me, went
walking through the Petrifying Forest. It felt scary. When we got out of the Petrifying Forest, all of us looked up. It was called the Devil’s
Mountain. It was almost as tall as the clouds. We walked the wrong way. We were in the Forest of Doom. We walked back and found
the treasure.
Junior
It looked like I was getting closer to the map and I grabbed it. The map led me to Blood Lagoon. There was lots of blood. Then it led me
to Nessy View. There was a big monster. I had to walk so slowly. I looked at the map and I was heading towards Yellow Slime Pit. I was
sinking. I saw a vine and I grabbed it with force.
All of a sudden I saw little devils! I was going to Devil Mountain! So I ran as fast as I could but they all disappeared. So I stopped running.
I looked at the map. I was in the Forest of Doom!

Grade 3Bs describing a picture
In my picture there is a beautiful brown and white table. I can also see a
shining toaster and a clean sink. On the floor I see a black and white carpet.
Next to the red owl I see a lovely plant. Behind the plant I can see a large
black window. On the white table I spotted a small glass cutter that has a
small caveman eating breakfast. There are two cupboards with cooking things
in them. Under that I see a black stove with a pot on it. The last thing I spot is
a water kettle.
Mallex
In this picture I can see my dad working with a lion. My dad
has a green shirt on. The lion has a bleeding tooth because
it is broken. My dad has special glasses on. He also has some
special instruments, but not real instruments that you play
with. The lion is black and light brown. The lion
is on a table with blue papers under the lion. In the
background you can also see a house.
Antoine
There is a big, long, comfy couch. There
are stones on top of a warm fireplace.
Outside is a cold pool. There is also a cool
telescope. In the house is a very white
small couch. On the big table is a small box.
The box has got paper, flowers and a big
glowing orb with lots of different
lines on it. There are also many
books on the little tables. Big books
and small books lie there.

Okonjima Trip: 24-26 September 2014
When we arrived we were welcomed by Nomi, Daniel and Helen. We first went to the swimming pool, because it was very hot! We
had lovely hot dogs for lunch. For our first game-drive we were very lucky and we saw a lot of different animals. When we returned
from our game-drive it was very late and we immediately had dinner and sat around the fire.
Grade 4 Okondjima trip
The next morning we went on our second game-drive. We had to wake up at 05:30! We saw two cheetahs and three wild dogs. The
one wild dog only had three legs. We came back at lunch time. After lunch we went swimming. We had an awesome water pistol
fight. In the afternoon we make stick bread, but we first had to find the perfect stick! It was yummy! When the sun had set we went
on a night walk, we saw stars in the sky.
The last morning we had to wake up very early to go climb the Omboroko Mountain. When we came back, we had breakfast. Then it
was the sad goodbyes…
Okondjima Trip
Jack Parker
We left school at around 7. I sat in the “kitchen”
on the bus with Keith, Gert, Uri and Jono. Keith
fell asleep twice and once he was drooling over
his face, we took lots of photos of him.
When we arrived at Okondjima we saw some
animals. We unpacked our bags and left them
on the table.
Our trip to Okondjima
Gert Gerber
On Wednesday we went to AfriCat. The bus trip took very long. When we
arrived at Okondjima we saw a couple of kudus and wildebeest and one
cheetah and a lot of warthogs.
We were met by Helen, Daniel and Nomi. Then we went to sort out our
tents. I shared a tent with Julian, Ivan and Uri. Me, Ivan and Uri slept on one
side, Julian and his rubbish slept on the other side. On Thursday we woke up
really early and went on a game drive. We saw a lot of animals and learnt
about the different poisons. Then we went to see the Adams family, wild
dogs, and Wahu the leopard.
We slept comfortably on Thursday night but then unfortunately we had
to leave. We were all very sad but there were a surprise for us. We got
“padkos” and bands that said AfriCat, this was so cool. The trip was very
short, but I enjoyed it very much.
55
We then met the people from Okondjima,
Helen and her helpers, who told us some very
important rules. We were split into two teams,
Leopards and Cheetahs. We were allocated our
tents, I was with Jono, Keith and Robbe. Our
tent’s zip was broken and there were holes in
it so we had to sleep in another tent that had
beds!!! We moved our stuff the next day. We
had to wake up around 5:30 because we were
going to see the sunrise, it only rose between
07:00 and 08:00. We saw a pack of three wild
dogs, one of them had three legs. There were 6
but 2 died, one of a disease and the other one
got kicked in the head and died. The one who
had three legs was also kicked but on the leg and
they did lots of operations on it bur he was still
injured so they had a choice to amputate his leg
or put him down. They amputated his leg but
he still hunts well. There was also a beautiful
leopard called Wahu who grew up with Helen’s
nephew. When Wahu was about 5-6 months,
Wayne (Helen’s nephew) left. So Wahu thought
the house was his territory. When Wayne came
back, Wahu attacked him but luckily Wayne had
a chair and protected himself.
For dinner we had a braai, we had “stokbrood”
with syrup and we had marshmallows dipped
in melted chocolate! Then we went on a night
walk and we lay on the sand and looked at the
beautiful stars.
The next morning we packed and had a quick
cereal, then got on the bus, off we went. I sat
in the “kitchen” again. We played fun games
such as spin the bottle. I really enjoyed my
class trip to Okondjima and learnt a lot. When
we arrivedbadk in Windhoek I had to leave
straightaway to Swakopmund for a soccer
tournament.
56
My AfriCat trip
Dominique Clayton
For my AfriCat trip I had to wake upo at 06:00 because the
bus left at 07:30. The trip took three hours, but I survived.
We stayed at Okondjima for two days.
When we arrived, al lady called Nomi, showed us how to use
the outdoor restrooms. After she showed us everything, my
teacher, Mrs. Pretorius, divided us into four groups each.
The girls and the boys were separated from each other.
Each group had their own tent and my group’s tent was
called the Dik-Dik tent.
We played lots of games and one of the games was a
balloon game with a towel. It was so much fun. My four
friends were with me in the tent. We all had lots of fun.
My teacher woke us up at 05:30 on Thursday morning because they took us on a game-drive. It was extremely cold and they had to even
give us blankets. Michaela, Jono, Ivan and I sat right at the top of the game drive truck. It was cold because the wind blew against our
faces. On the game-drive we saw cheetahs, leopards, oryx, Dik-Dik, springbok, wild dogs, spotted hyenas and baboons.
We played lots of games and they were all fun. On the last day we climbed a mountain. On one of the days Airi accidentally spilt water on
Mrs. Weber. Then Airi got water spilled on her. Mrs. Pretorius asked Airi for a cold hug then Mrs. Pretorius grabbed Airi and Mrs. Weber
grabbed Airi’s feet and they put her in the basin and poured water all over her. We all had fun and laughed about that.
On our way back to Windhoek, Mrs. Pretorius gave all of us a small packet of chips and a bottle of cold drink. When we got back to our
school my mom hugged me very tightly and was very happy I was home.
IT WAS THE BEST TRIP EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

God has given us a beautiful world. That is why we should take
good care of our environment. We should always be thankful

What did Grade 5A think of the concert?
Tino Pack
The concert was great. We practised a lot and used the
song “Ireland’s Call”. I enjoyed the dress rehearsals and the
performances. We stayed in classrooms at the high school and the
concert was in a huge tent. The lights were very sharp and warm
and it was exciting to go on stage while everybody was watching.
It felt good when the people gave us a big applause. I enjoyed the
concert very much.
Caleb Titus
When the concert was about to start, I was kind of nervous but
very excited. We were about to go up when I saw my dad. They
made an introduction to the country that we represented which
was Ireland. They said that the Irish people love to drink beer.
Then Joshua said that he must be Irish. We had a lot of fun. When
the concert was over, the holiday was here!
Ntando Sibanda
The concert was fantastic. It took a lot of practise. We always
moved the desks apart to have space to practise. The day before
the concert we practised in the tent in front of the Primary
School. We represented Ireland. It was a wonderful experience.
We performed two evenings and enjoyed it very much.
Grade 5A Outing to N/a'ankusê
Dylan Fourie
The concert was a big success. Many people came to the concert.
I thought I would be nervous, but I was not. When you perform on
stage you get a feeling of excitement. The concert was an amazing
experience and I will never forget it.
Benjamin Singer
The concert was an epic event. I could hear my heart pounding
before we went on stage. The applause was big and it gave me
confidence. I enjoyed every moment and I wished it could go on
for another evening.
Anoushka Seha
The country we represented
was Ireland. All orange, white
and green. The girls had long
white bobby socks, orange skirts,
white blouses with flowers
on them and green hats. We
danced on the music of the
song “Ireland’s Call”. The boys
had orange, white and green
socks, with black pants, green
waistcoats and don’t forget the
green hats. We waited in a hot
classroom until we had to go
on stage. The lights, music and
cameras were amazing and we
loved the performance. There
was food stalls from the different
countries and it was a wonderful
experience.
Aidan Schwartz
The concert was very fantastic. We have to practise a lot and I
loved the dress rehearsals. The boys had long socks and hats. I
was very nervous the night of the concert, but I enjoyed it. The big
finish was amazing and the lights were very cool. The concert was
real fun!
Elsie Jacobs
Our concert was a lot of fun. It felt as if we were really dancing in
Ireland. At first I was nervous and I was afraid that I would mess
everything up. Luckily I enjoyed the performance and nothing
went wrong. We danced well and the concert was great.
61
Michael Kotzè
The concert was a great adventure. Despite all the rushing it was a
lot of fun. I felt as if I was really part of Ireland. We enjoyed the whole performance as well as the final scene when the whole school was on stage.
Daniel Branch
The concert was an exciting event. It was also weird because the
boys had to wear lipstick and make-up which was very stupid. We
represented Ireland and we had black trousers, white shirts and
green hats. The boys had long sock with stripes that were Ireland’s
colours.
Joshua Thomas
At the concert we had to be Ireland. Our class had to practise a lot and it felt great after the performance. It took a
few hours but all was good in the end. We had lots of fun and enjoyed it very much. The only thing that I didn’t like
was the fact that we had to put lipstick on which tasted terrible!

Leonardine Apollous
This week was an amazing week. We had to draw a name from our class and make an award for that person. I made an award for
Jessica. I did my best to be kind and I have send her kind letters. At the Oscar Awards, I finally gave the trophy to Jessica. I put a lot of
effort into making it. Jana drew my name and I was very happy because she gave me a beautiful trophy and she is my best friend.
Anneke Eisenberg
We learned a lot of stuff in one week. We learned that we are very special and we should make other people also happy and let them
feel special. Always try to smile and do good to others then you also feel good. To be happy is free.
Leila Chekaraou
The Grammy Awards was a lot of fun. You had to make a trophy for the class mate whose name you have drawn. We had to say why you
give the trophy to the person and we also made cards to give to that person. It was a very enjoyable day.
Jessica Kennedy
We had to read a lot during the read-a-thon week. We had to make a trophy for a class
mate. We had to be good to others to feel good. We had to read at home and also fifteen
minutes at school. On Friday we had to dress up to hand over our trophies. We had a
super time at the Grammy Awards.
Alex Cartwright
The read-a-thon was fun. At the beginning of the week we heard about Operation Smile. During the week we had to make a trophy for
someone in our class. At the ceremony our class was first. It was exciting but boring to sit and listen to the other classes.
Lance Hauuanga
The read-a-thon week was a lot of fun. We had to make a trophy for someone in our class. I read every day for at least two hours. I love
reading. The best day of all was Friday when we handed over the trophies. I received the biggest and best trophy. It was awesome!
Chris Barnard
The first day we had to draw a name and we had to make a trophy for that class mate. I have drawn Alex’s name so I made him a trophy.
We also made baskets that we have filled with positive messages. We received a book mark on Friday. We handed the trophies to each
other on Friday and everybody was very happy.
Gero Kirchner
We had to draw a name on Monday so that we could start to make a trophy for this person. We wrote positive messages and put it in a
bucket to draw and put in our paper baskets. We had to read every morning and every afternoon and we had to do good and positive
things every day. I enjoyed Friday the most when I was dressed in my suit and when we handed over the trophies. The read-a-thon was
a lot of fun.
Grade 5B went to the botanical gardens
Alana Adonis
For the read-a-thon we have drawn names from a bucket and had to make a trophy for
that person. We had to use recycle material to make the trophies. On Friday, we handed
the trophies over to the person whose name we have drawn. I handed my trophy to
Leila. I received a trophy from Aidan and it was very special. This read-a-thon was real
fun!!
Temwani Bruhns
When I came to school on Monday, I realised that it is read-a-thon week. I was very
excited. Lots of books, lots of reading and lots of fun!! We brought clothes, toys, tinned
food and books for other people. I was happy to help.
On Friday, we had to dress fancy. We had our own St. Paul’s Oscar Award Event. It was
wonderful and amazing. It was also Jana’s birthday on Friday and her mom brought us
some ice-cream. We learned a lot and we read a lot during the read-a-thon week. It was
a week of fun. We all dressed fancy including Mrs. Rall. I think she enjoyed it too!!!!!
Jana Swanepoel
It took me at least six days to make a trophy. I have drawn my best friend’s name out of the bucket, Leonardine. I wanted to make a very
special trophy for her. I decided to make a statue. I used one of my old dolls, removed her hair and painted her with pink nail polish.
I covered an empty toilet roll with wrapping paper and wrote “Best Friend Award” on it. I put the doll into the covered toilet roll and
used two red lids as platforms. I used a few pom-poms to stabilise the doll’s feet and put a little bow on the dolls head for a special
touch.
I was glad Leonardine liked the statue. The award ceremony was on Friday, a very special day
because it was my birthday!!
Ti-à Gaomas
I loved read-a-thon week. It was very interesting and a lot of fun. When the hand bell
announced reading time, we had to read fifteen minutes every day.The reading time was call
“DEAR- Drop Everything and Read”. I love to read interesting books. I also made a trophy for
the person whose name I have drawn out of the bucket in class. It was much fun to make the
trophy.
I have read the book “Shadow of the Woods Spider Gnomes” I really liked the read-a-thon
week and it is a pity that it lasted only for one week. We would have liked more reading
time!!!
Krynauw Weber
For the Oscar Awards we had to pull a name out of a bucket. We had to make a trophy for
that specific person. We had a week to complete the trophies. On Friday we had to hand over
the trophies in front of the whole Primary School. It was the best time I had in a very long
time.

Grade 7 Buddies
Grade 7 Kuiseb Hike
The hike was an amazing experience. We got to bond with people we didn’t really know. It was fun and tiring at the same time.
Martin was forever looking for the wifi tree, Bennie bonded with a log called Soldier and was very upset when their two ways parted. On
the second night we had mud fight, Tawana dug a hot tub and we played rugby.
In Gobabeb we had a scare and thought we saw a sidewinder but it turned out to be a dead grasshopper leg. The food was amazing there
and we learnt a lot about the environment and how to use different forms of energy.
In Swakop we finally got proper beds. We learnt a lot about the sea ecosystem. On the boat Tjimaa was attacked by a pelican called Lady
Gaga. The ocean was a beautiful sight to see.
Overall, all the experiences we had were amazing.

KOS-gediggies - Graad 6
Angelina Norval
Ek eet graag roomys
Wanneer ek dit eet, voel ek soos ‘n prinses
wat bly in ‘n paleis.
Dit is lekker met sjokoladesous,
So, sit dit in jou kous.
Jy moet dit met horinkies eet,
En jy sal in groot moeilikheid wees as jy vergeet!
Joshua Strauss
Eke et graag fudge.
Dis baie lekker.
Dis baie sag
En my ouma maak dit baie.

Jy kan dit roerbraai of rasper,
En pasop vir Kasper!
Kook vir ‘n minuut
Eet en geniet!

En jy soek suiker.
Ek hou nie van suurlemoen, sies!
Maar as ek dink aan koek…
Is ek vies!
Ek’s nou ‘n groot meisie

Ons gebruik sosiale network
En loop in die mall met ons fone.
Ons stryk ons hare en skeer ons bene
Sit te veel make up op!

Terrasol: Renewable energy
Grade 4B
What I loved about Terrasol was, well everything! What I loved the most was that it was very interesting. It was a very hot day and
perfect to test the solar panels. I actually told everything to my mom! The big wind fan was awesome, thought it was going to blow us
away. I also learned that if you wear dark clothes, you will absorb the sun and if you wear light colours, the sun reflects on you.
Savannah Noirfalise
I enjoyed going on the Terrasol outing, because I love electricity. The man was very kind and showed us how different solar panels and
its motors work. It was really cool. He even showed us how a solar oven works.
Declan Landman
At Terrasol we learned which light bulb is the best to use. We learned why light bulbs get so hot. We also learned about how water, sun
and wind can make electricity. Did you know that a wave in the ocean produces enough energy to power up your house? If you want to
buy a wind panel, buy the lightest one that spins the easiest and fastest with even the slightest wind. I really learned a lot at Terrasol!
Charl Malan
Grade 4A
I learnt about saving energy, non-renewable or renewable energy, solar panels, batteries and how to use electricity. Also how to use
electricity and not to waste electricity. I learnt to tell if it is renewable or not renewable.
Jack Parker
The Grade 3s had a very exciting Science Fun Day!
We started off in class, working in groups. Each table had a different experiment to do. These included changing the colour of milk,
watching raisins dance and seeing how to get a cardboard boat racing! Then we moved outside to where two high school Science
teachers, Ms Austin and Ms Kuppel-Schutz, showed us some wonderful explosions and a toothpaste prototype for elephants! Finally,
with their help, we made some fantastic slime which kept changing from solid to liquid. All in all, we had an interesting morning with
fantastic to exposure to all things Science.
We went on a trip to Terrasol. First they told us about solar panels. They are very useful. Then he showed us a solar panel oven. It is
black inside so it attracts heat. Be careful, it is very bright! Next he showed us a uniontech. If you have these small little lights they only
use 3 watts! Then he showed us Osram bulbs. These lights make the room hot. They use 60 watts. Then come the eurolux light. They
are dim at first, but they do lighten up. This bulb doesn’t give air pollution and it is very good. It only uses 15 watts. And then there was
a big wheel. It stores up wind energy. That was the trip.

Library
Read-a-thon
22nd – 26st September 2014
Media Centre report 2014
We celebrated our 10th Readathon from 22 to 26 September at
the Primary School. Every year we have a theme for Readathon
and this year our theme was DO GOOD, FEEL GOOD. We usually
combine our Readathon with a charity for whom we raise money
to give as a donation. This year we had decided that our charity
drive would be Operation Smile.
Dr Susan Kruger form Operation Smile opened the Readathon.
She told us about her work in different countries and how people
across the world are coming together to put on smile on people’s
faces. Following this we had an awareness campaign about
causes that Operation Smile supports. We watched videos and
collected donations of clothes, food, toys and money. We were
able to fill up the carpet in the Media Centre with these items and
were fortunate to donate food and bathroom items to old age
homes, clothes and toys to two orphanages and books for our
own library as well as to school without any libraries.
The theme of DO GOOD FEEL GOOD, was about showing kindness
to others by sharing smiles and compliments. We tried to build
the habit of filling one another’s ”buckets” every day by passing
on positive comments and observations. For ten minutes every
day we Dropped Everything And Read (DEAR) which showed
some reluctant readers what fun reading can be.
We received armbands to sell to our school community on behalf
of Operation Smile and we had a civvie day to raise money for
the course. On the 3rd of October we were happy to hand over
a cheque of N$ 5000 to Lady Pohamba during World Smile Day
at the Wanderers Club. We also raised N$5 000 for our garden
project.
Thank you to everyone who contributed and supported this
fantastic Readathon. Without your contributions we would not
have been able to have had such a very successful Readathon
2014 project.
Jossie Koekemoer
Organiser of Readathon 2014
St Paul's visit to Lady Pohamba
After a long planning session and thorough research by the IT
committee in 2013, thirty new laptops were installed in the Media
Centre at the beginning of 2014. The new laptops together with
the new desks and the repainting of the Centre brought huge
excitement among all the students and teachers of St Paul’s
College. As with any new installation many things had to be
changed or adjusted before everything could run smoothly.
Occasionally new challenges occurred, but fortunately we had
Werner Oberholzer on board to address these issues. We want to
express our gratitude for everyone's contribution and especially
for the IT committee that had invested many hours and energy to
make this project such a success.
In the library, our new shelves arrived to meet the demand for
shelving for all the new books that have been added to our library
stock. More than 2500books were processed in 2014. We
101
would like to thank Ms Christa Fourie whose work has been
priceless and of inestimable value. At the end of June the library
also gained the services of Faith Fielding, who has helped to ease
the workload in the Media Centre.
Various exhibitions were held where particular emphasis was
placed on certain national and international events which were
celebrated in the course of the year.
We would like to thank all the parents who contributed to the
library fund. Without your help we would not have been able to
add all the new and popular books to our Centre. We rely on your
continued financial support for the Media Centre in the future.

Archery
32 young archers signed up in the beginning of the year – eager
and enthusiastic to learn this new skill. As there were so many
children, it took a while before everyone had the correct stance
and could follow the correct procedure to get the arrows on the
butts. Thanks to the assistance of Mr Whitelock and Ms BeukesKapa, most of the children were able to acquire the skills in the
first few sessions.
Athletics
Interhouse Athletics
remained patient and attended practice sessions regularly. At the
end of the second tri-mester some of the archers participated in
the National Schools Archery Inter-Schools Competition held at
SKW. They thoroughly enjoyed the day and learnt much more
than they could have thought as most of the other schools have
been doing archery for many years.
In the third tri-mester, Ms Anni Roth completed the instructor’s
course and coached the group as Ms Jacobs was on sick leave for
that time.
Archery is such a good way of improving a child’s attention,
behavior, self-discipline and motivation as well as listening and
observational skills. Everyone can enjoy success in archery as one
does not have to compete against anyone else.
We had a fun-filled, yet structured time on the field.
In the second tri-mester the practice times had to change due to
‘winter time’. This left us with fewer coaches, yet the children

Interhouse Athletics
At this year’s Inter House competition Rudolph were the victors once again. A special word of congratulations to Zuné Weber and Gian
Dresselhaus, the Sr. Vic. Ludorums and Azaylee Philander and Hilton Lima, the Jr. Vic. Ludorums.
57 of our children, from U/10 – U/13, were selected to participate at the Small Schools athletics meeting in February. Our athletes did
us proud and 36 of the St Paul’s athletes qualified to represent the Small Schools team at the Zone B meeting in 64 events.
During March 11 of our athletes competed in the Regional Athletics Meeting in 20 events:
u/10 Boys: Lazarus Petrus (High Jump 3rd) , Charl Malan (Shot Put), Nependa Uremena (Shot Put), Jonathan Strauss (High Jump 4th)
u/10 Girls: Azaylee Philander (High Jump)
u/11 Boys: Tumna Kankondi (Shot Put 1st), Pandu Amuenja (Shot Put 4th)
u/11 Girls: Hannah Murphy (70 m Hurdles)
u/12 Boys: Mark Olles (Shot Put) Kennedy Hawala (Shot Put)
u/13 Boys: Ronan Wantenaar (80 m Hurdles)
Gian Dresselhaus ( Long Jump 3rd, Discus 1st, 200 m Hurdles, 1st)
u/13 Girls: Kiana Cormack (Shot Put), Daniela Brunido (75 m Hurdles 4th), Uetuu Katjivena (200 m Hurdles), Zuné Weber (200 m 4th,
Discus 2nd, Shot Put 1st)
We had two athletes qualifying for the National Athletics competition. We are very proud of their results:
Gian Dresselhaus (200 m Hurdles1st)
Zuné Weber (Shot Put 4th, 200 m 7th, Discus 8th)
Hockey
Once again St Paul’s had an incredible hockey season!
We entered 18 teams in the NHU league: 6 U/8 teams (3 boys &
3 girls), 6 U/10 teams (3 boys & 3 girls), 4 U/12 teams (2 boys & 2
girls) and 2 U/14 teams (1 boys & 1 girls).
Our children did exceptionally well. The U/8 A boys, U/12A girls
and U/14 girls won their respective leagues. The U/10A girls and
U/14 boys came 2nd in their leagues.
We are very proud of our B-teams and C-teams who always played
their best and showed good sportsmanship throughout the year.
To be at the top of most of the leagues is an amazing achievement.
But we are even more proud of our players’ behaviour on and off
the field. Our players played with all their heart and, they amazed
everybody with their skill, sportsmanship and determination.
During the annual Mini World Cup held by K5 Sports St Paul’s
represented Russia. It was a very enjoyable day for the children
as well as the parents who joined in the activities. Russia had 5
teams in the finals and won 4 and 1 silver of the eight age group
categories at the popular development hockey tournament.
We would like to congratulate the following children on their
special achievements:
Kiana Cormack, Rachel Finch, Zuné Weber, Carien van Rooyen
and Daniela Brunido were selected for the NSSU U/14 girls team.
Mark Olles was selected for the NSSU U/14 boys team.
Thank you to every coach, teacher and parent who is involved
with hockey. Our hockey family is sure to be the best in Namibia!
Well done to all our athletes who participated in the above events – from the Inter House competition all the way through to Nationals.
We are very proud of all the athletes' achievements this year.
Cricket
Our cricket league ended on a high note with our Mini Cricketers
reaching the finals. The A-team won the A League and the C-team
won the B League. These little ones played their hearts out
throughout the season.
The U/11’s and u/13’s showed commitment throughout the year
by attending practices regularly. Unfortunately we could not field
an u/13 team this year due to too few players. The u/11’s enjoyed
all their league games and learnt many skills in the process.
109
Congratulations to Krynauw Weber who was selected for the u/11
Namibian cricket team and Michael Kotze and Veri Hinda who
were selected for the u/13 Namibian cricket team. We are very
proud of these three boys who will be touring to South Africa in
December.
A big thank you to Fortune, Zee and Norbit for all the hours they
put into our school’s cricket.

Tennis
At the beginning of the year St Paul’s College joined Kalie Heese
in two of the FNB Development Tournaments at Central Courts.
The matches had a fast turn over and were called “Play and Stay”
matches. This gave players the opportunity to play as many
matches as possible within two hours, which were great for
maximum exposure. We played these matches on 22 February
and 29 March. The tennis league for Development Tennis was
scheduled for the second trimester, but St Paul’s College then
withdrew because of our numbers. Our school would not have
been able to feed the tennis as well as the hockey league in the
very busy second trimester.
The group of tennis players consisted of under 10, 12 and 14
players. They enthusiastically climbed on the bus every Tuesday
and Thursday. On Tuesdays we visited Johan Theron’s Tennis
School at SKW. There were three coaches. The children were
divided into three groups according to the level of their skills. On
Thursdays they went to Eros Primary School courts to be coached
by the school coaches.
We had a tournament against Eros Primary School on 30 May. We
adopted the “Play and Stay” method, which proved to be very
successful for maximum playtime. Our tennis tournament against
St. Georges on 27 June was cancelled due to their Mid Term. We
had our last tournament for the second trimester on 25 July
against Pioneers Park Primary School.
The group of approximately 22 tennis players enjoyed their
lessons and rarely missed practice.
113
The best under 10 player this year was Azaylee Philander. The
best under 12 player was Sandra Youssef and the best under 14
player was Gian Dresselhaus.
