Inside the staff has put together some great information with special stories on the Bearcats Men's Soccer program. We also had the chance to speak with new Men's Basketball Coach Andy Kennedy and his newest player Ronald Allen. As we always try to do, Tim Adams goes "Old School" with two former Bearcat football players and lets you know how they are doing since their playing days ended. We also look at the Bearcats first official Big East game and go outside the helmet with Butler Benton the Bearcats sophomore running back who's coming off a shoulder injury from the spring. As always, football recruiting is heating up and the Bearcats have received five verbal commitments. We look at each of them and also give you some other names to keep an eye out for. We want to thank all of you who've made Bearcat Insider grow and hope you keep enjoying our coverage of Bearcat athletics. Leaving Conference USA, the Bearcats take residence in their new conference the Big East. With this move many new and exciting things will happen in the course of the first year. The first “Big Thing” came on Saturday, October 8th as the Bearcats traveled up the Ohio River to Pittsburgh to battle the Pitt Panthers in the schools first match-up against a Big East foe. With both Pitt and UC sitting on rivers that run together, University of Cincinnati Athletic Director Bob Goin found it the right time to kickoff a new rivalry game. While it will take several years for players and fans to feel attached to this new rival, the hard hitting action the game brought will help make it happen sooner then many expected. www.bearcatinsider.com HISTORY MADE: UC PLAYS FIRST BIG EAST GAME Attending the game and watching were University of Cincinnati President Nancy Zimpher, Mr. Goin and several members of the university athletic staff. A party was planned for UCAT members and alumni who had the chance to gather inside a tent before the game to get ready. As many fans will find during the next few seasons, the Bearcats have former players living in the areas of the new conference and Coach Dantonio is using these games to bring them back into the Bearcats family. At Pitt, former Bearcat and NFL player Dan Raines was honored by Coach Dantonio and took the field with the captains for the coin flip. Rains was excited about this chance and also by having the opportunity of getting with several former teammates to talk about old times. Once inside fans enjoyed the large video board at Heinz Field. The action on the field didn’t go the Bearcats way in this one. As the young Bearcats keep learning the ropes. But the team isn’t that far behind and Coach Dantonio expects his troops to start playing like veterans in upcoming Big East games. How will the Bearcats fair in the coming weeks? It’s hard to say, but fans will find great effort from these young cats and should enjoy the chance to watch Big East foes Connecticut, Louisville and West Virginia take the new turf at Nippert Stadium. For those who really love Bearcats football there are also trips to Syracuse, South Florida and Rutgers yet to come. Each of these games will see the Bearcats enter as underdogs, but I’ve got a feeling a few more victories are in the cards being held by Coach Dantonio and his staff. www.bearcatinsider.com While the weatherman could have given fans a better day, Bearcat fans enjoyed the chance of getting together outside of the stadium and talking with fellow Bearcats and the many Pitt fans tailgating. While the new trophy will sit in the halls of the Panthers this year, look for the Bearcats to fight to see it return to its rightful home next season when the Panthers make their first trip into Nippert Stadium. www.bearcatinsider.com www.bearcatinsider.com www.bearcatinsider.com www.bearcatinsider.com 5 www.bearcatinsider.com www.bearcatinsider.com www.bearcatinsider.com www.bearcatinsider.com www.bearcatinsider.com www.bearcatinsider.com www.bearcatinsider.com www.bearcatinsider.com 6 Butler Benton #23 Running Back www.bearcatinsider.com
