S a i n t M a l a c h y Pa r i s h S c h o o l NEWS We are called to serve others and our lord M a r c h 14 , 2 016 March 14, 2016 Bostrom’s Blog Parents, It is hard to believe we only have 46 days of school left. Time flies when you are having fun! We have so much going on; Shamrock Summertime, Preschool and preparing for the 2016-2017 school year. We still have a few spots in kindergarten but the rest of our school is full. We are so blessed with supportive parents, staff and parish. We are working on our technology for next year. As you can imagine we want to make sure we set up our teachers and students for success. We are working with other schools and learning from their mistakes. Our summer program has a great number of students; not too big or too small. We will continue to take summer registrations through May. Blessings, Angela Bostrom, Principal God Makes All Things New Scripture Do not be like them. Your Father knows what you need before you ask him. Kennison Corner —Matthew 6:8 It’s hard to believe we are beginning the last quarter of the school year. Students have so much to look forward to before the end though such as our 3rd graders have IREAD, Spring Break is April 1 – 10, students can wear shorts beginning April 11, then we have the second round of ISTEP in late April, and Easter is only two weeks away! Our students have reconciliation scheduled with Fr. Vince and Fr. Dave during Lent and Stations of the Cross will be Thursday, March 24 at 1:15 led by our 8th grade. “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength” Philippians 4:13. I pray that God will keep all the families and students of St. Malachy safe and healthy, and helps them to do their very best every day! Mrs. Kennison, Vice Principal God Makes All Things New Extended Day Now Hiring Extended day is looking for a few great people who are available Monday though Friday, 2-6. Page 3 March 14, 2016 School News cont’d St. Malachy School 2016 Clothing Drive As a school wide service project for our community, our school is holding a Clothing Drive the week of April 11-15, 2016. Clothing items collected will be taken to Goodwill to benefit Sheltering Wings. Sheltering Wings is an emergency housing system in Danville that gives shelter to women and children who are escaping from domestic violence. As Sheltering Wings is unable to store the clothing collected, St. Malachy will again team up with Goodwill Industries. For every white trash bag of clothing collected, Goodwill will give St. Malachy a $5 voucher which we in turn donate to Sheltering Wings. These vouchers are then able to be used at a local Goodwill store. The vouchers allow the women at the shelter to choose clothing and other items that meet their needs. Also since the clothing does not go directly to the shelter, we were able to collect all types of clothing items including men’s, women’s, and children’s. Our school wide goal is to bring in 270 white trash bags of clothing. Each class is asked to do their part by bringing in 15 or more white trash bags. Each classroom that reaches their goal will receive a casual day. The classroom with the most white trash bags brought in will receive the Spirit Trophy. If you are interested in donating any clothing items, please bring them to St. Malachy School the week of April 11-15th. Just bring them to the school office, and we will take care of them for you. Thank you in advance for your support of this worthy cause. 2016 Tax Info While Saint Malachy does not provide any advice regarding personal income tax requirements or filing, we do want to inform parents that IC 6-3-2-22 authorizes taxpayers to claim a $1,000 income tax deduction for each dependent who is enrolled in a private school or who is home schooled in grades K12 and incurs costs for tuition, fees, computer software, textbooks or school supplies. To claim this credit, you will need to provide your accountant with the following information: Saint Malachy Parish School #B285 under the Archdiocese of Indianapolis #9200.
