Get ready, get set, Go!

Adventure, Opportunity and Excitement; as we come into a fresh FFA
year these three words could be used
to describe what we are about to experience as a chapter. The officer
team has worked hard to come up
with a new and out of the box kind
of approach for the direction of the
Caney Creek FFA.
This officer team wants to welcome its members back with enthusiasm and excitement as we go
places never thought possible. We
will be helping the community, further developing our program and
over all having fun. This year we will
be taking this chapter as far as one
can vision. Embarking on this year’s

and advisors are about this next
school year. The new idea’s and
opportunities that will be a part of
this year’s experience are sure to
cross some boundaries. So get set,
be ready and let’s go as our FFA
works to make 2009-2010 the best
year we have ever seen!
The first
ever Caney Creek
FFA lock-in has been
planned to happen
this fall. The lock-in
will be held on October 2, tickets will cost
$10 if purchased
before September 18,
after this date the
price will rise to $15.
Tickets must be purchased by September
30. All Ag students
are permitted to
come along with one
non-Ag student; both
students must be
paid for. The lock-in
will be held in the
school cafeteria following the Varsity
football game at
Magnolia West.
The Caney
Creek officer team
decided that the best
thing to do would be
to have a lock-in
instead of having a
green hand camp
because it would be
more fun for everyone involved and
would be much
cheaper. This will
surely be the most
exciting event the
Caney Creek FFA
has ever held. We
will be having a
dodge ball competition, a Wii tournament, food, alongside
many other games
and tons of entertainment!
Come out,
have fun and meet
new friends! This
lock-in is packed
with tons of activities
that will keep you
going until 6 in the
morning!
Caney Creek FFA off to
Washington By: Mason Parish
John F. Kennedy
thought that "Effort and courage
are not enough without purpose
and direction." This statement
described the message that Kacey
Carter and I received while visiting our nations capital this summer.
We ventured off to
Washington D.C. to attend a
leadership conference produced
by the National FFA organization. Held annually, we attended
the highly acclaimed Washington
Leadership Conference. During
our stay we learned many new
and unique traits of leadership which we hope to
bring back to our chapter during this upcoming year.
WLC is a week long program which helps FFA members
improve their leadership skills
and prepare for leadership roles
in their lives. We attended sessions on developing authentic
leadership, serving their commu-
nities and making an impact.
These sessions and events allowed "me to grow in my leadership ability and gave me passion that makes me want to go
out and make an difference on
our community and school."
said Kacey.
This conference allowed its participants to see
problems facing our community and developed an attitude
of “we must, because we can..”
During this amazing training
we felt as if we found a purpose and were taught how to
go out and use what we received.
“The FFA mission
statement states that the FFA
makes a positive difference in
the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal
growth and career success, I
can honestly say that anyone
who attend this
conference will progress in those three
objectives." WLC is held each year with
the intent of making an Impact on its
participants and that is exactly what it
has done for two of our very own chapter members.
The Committee System

Looking to bring an even
more student based structure, the
Caney Creek FFA has adopted a
new committee based system. This
system will consist of 6 committees
including a fiancé ,student
promotion, chapter activities,
public relations, community
service, and SAE's. This system
will come into affect this year and
will involve every member as well
as encourage others to join and

become more involved in the FFA.
This system will allow members to
be involved and make this FFA
chapter what members want it to be
and more. Caney Creek FFA
advisors and officers believe that
this system will offer more to our
members and allow for positive
expansion.

Getting Involved, Truly Rewarding

Caney Creek FFA had
an amazing year last year. Traveling, competing, making new
friends, and most of all, having
fun. Many students competed
in LDE’s and CDE’s, traveling
and competing across the state
in places such as Houston,
Waco, Brenham, Katy, and
College Station. Now it’s your
opportunity to get involved.
Caney Creek FFA
offers both categories of competitive opportunities. Leadership Development Events,
which are known as LDE’s are
mainly during the fall semester.
You can compete in Farm
skills, Creed speaking, Public
Relations, Radio, Quiz, Chapter Conducting, and Public
Speaking. These competitions
give students the opportunities to gain many skills that
will help them later on in life,
including leadership skills,
speaking skills, and personal
growth skills. Career Development Events, also known
as CDE’s are held in the
spring semester. These competitions are Floral Judging,
Livestock Judging, Poultry
Judging, Meat Judging, and
Horse Judging. These competitions benefit the students by
letting them compete in competitions that could one day
become their career. We also
have a Vet Tech team that is
not classified as a CDE or a
LDE but it is still a competition that students can compete
in.
Now get involved!! You can
learn about when the competitions are by listening to the
announcements, reading the
calendar or the chronicle, talking to your friends, and by
asking the Officers. No matter
what interest you have Caney
Creek FFA has a competition
for you.

Texas FFA Convention, Discover Your Dreams!

The Caney Creek FFA
officers arrived in Dallas, Texas at
the 81st annual Texas State Convention on July 6, 2009. The next
day, in official dress, the officers
headed to their first session. Walking into the convention center and
seeing thousands of new faces,
showing pride in their FFA jackets.
In session they
could hear the voices of thousands
of pumped up FFA members. The
selected few from each chapter
headed to the delegate floor and sat
with their area.
“Live life to the fullest,
and use this opportunity,” said
Caney Creek FFA President Mason
Parish. For the other five officers
this was their first time to attend
State convention and they were
new to the experience. Several
workshops were held for members
at the convention dealing with
many topics such as career and

leadership training. The officers were
informed on how to make S.M.A.R.T
goals, and how to better communicate
with others. The officers did hands on
activities that got them motivated and so
they could bring it back to our chapter.
Through an election process,
Texas FFA elected its next State president. In the end, Area III’s very own Alli-
son Granger won the position of
the 2009-2010 Texas State FFA
President.
“I’m very happy
with the outcome of the state officer
election, Allison is definitely fit to
lead our state officer team,” Caney
Creek FFA Secretary John Hawley
said. FFA is a place for leaders, and
that title fits Allison. Her smiling
face, positive attitude, and ability to
lead make her completely capable of
leading the Texas FFA.
As
the officers packed up and left Dallas, they came home knowing more
about the opportunities the FFA
had to offer as well as memories.
They are all in unison on heading
back next year for another convention, along with over 11,000 other
members from the Texas FFA.

In 1988 When the FFA
extended its widely known title it
was for a very important purpose.
What is now known, as The National FFA Organization is one of
the largest Youth associations in
the world and harbors thousands
of dedicated members who work
towards a broad range of career
goals.
This past summer I served
on The 81st Texas FFA convention Chronicle staff and I experienced even more of the true diversity that our beloved organization has to offer. While I was put
to work reporting I got to witness the work many dedicated
individuals put into our organization and I began to understand
the true benefit of putting in as
much effort as they did.
Being a reporter, like
many other jobs, requires long
hours, tireless efforts, and good
spirits. Keeping these things in
mind made my job easier than it
could have ever been. I realize
now, prior to my service to the
staff that applying this to anything I do can truly be the key to
unlocking the temple of success.
Realizing and understanding this can help any person become someone who stands out
anywhere they go. It will help
members develop leadership
qualities that will not only come in
handy while being a part of our
chapter but will be useful for job
interviews, working on committee’s and even working out disputes between friends and foes.
This year our chapter will
begin to take a step in giving each
and every one of us even more
chances to put our hard work into
something that will benefit ourselves for the rest of our lives.

things running efficiently.
We hope to have one every
moth to keep the information coming.
The information we
will provide will be upcoming events, community service opportunities, and
member highlights.
We are excited about
this up coming year, and the
information we are putting in this newsletter
is intended to get the members pumped up
for the race ahead. This year will be different
but well worth the change. We have so
many exciting things planned this year and
your 2009-10 officer team is ready for the
race to ahead! So get your running shoes on
and tie them tight!
