How to setup your Hanken e-mail in
Microsoft Outlook

Prerequisites:

Hanken account
Microsoft Outlook (in this guide Outlook 2010, other versions may look a bit different)
o (Thunderbird works in the same way but with a different design. However, if you plan to
setup your Hanken calendar you should not use thunderbird.)
1. Let’s get started
Begin by starting Microsoft Outlook.

2. Is this your first time?
If this is the first time you start Microsoft Outlook on this computer, the “add new account” wizard will
start automatically. Please proceed to step 3.
But hey, don’t worry if you don’t get the wizard. You’re just a few clicks behind.
Click File.
Click Info.
Click Account Settings.
Click Account Settings.

In the following view, click new.
When done, please proceed to step 4.

3. Next, next, next
Click next.

4. Walk the walk
Check that “E-mail
Account is chosen
and click next.
Here you want to
manually configure.
Proceed with next.
Choose “Internet E-mail
and proceed.

5. It’s in the details
Fill out the following
form accordingly.
Name:
This Is the name that will show as
sender, you’re advised to use:
Firstname Surname.
Choose imap.
E-mail: Preferably
[email protected]
Incoming server:
imap.hanken.fi
Your hanken user id.
(not firstname.surname)
Outgoing server:
smtpauth.hanken.fi
Uncheck remember
password
Proceed with More
Settings.

6. Into the mist
Let’s change name on
the account to make it
easier to locate.
Suggestion:
Hanken E-mail.
Proceed to
Outgoing
Server.
Check the box.
And proceed to
Advanced.
Change the encryption
to ssl and make sure
you have the right port
number.
Do this on both
incoming and
outgoing servers.
Confirm with ok.

7. Almost there
Check ones more that
you don’t have
misspelled anything.
Proceed with next.
The wizard will now check your settings and asks for your
password to the incoming mail server. Type it in and hope for those
green marks.
Victory!

8. Cross the finish line
That’s it. Press finish and, if open, close account settings.
