e are so excited for you to be here in Downtown Kamloops with us. We are
extremely proud of our neighbourhood and want you to embrace it as your own.
Whether you live here, work here or are just visiting, Downtown Kamloops
belongs to all of us.
Every day is a new adventure and there is always an experience to be found here in the
centre of the city. Whether you are looking for fantastic shopping, a great place to eat,
activities to partake in or places to stroll, Downtown Kamloops is your start to enjoying
everything that Kamloops has to offer. We have a vibrant cultural scene, an exciting
and diverse business district and streets lined with beautiful trees and restored heritage
buildings. All of these elements come together and contribute in creating a friendly and
relaxed ambiance for people to socialize, shop and do business.
Our neighbourhood is yours to explore. One of the best things about Downtown
Kamloops is it has never lost its small town charm. When you are downtown, you are
part of a family – it’s the place where everyone knows your name. That genuinely friendly
atmosphere is what will keep you coming back time and time again.
It may be our neighbourhood but it’s your office, living room, dining room, patio, rec
room, man cave, backyard, playground and much, much more!
Downtown Kamloops really does have it all
and we welcome you to enjoy it!

Meet Castles &

Bella Boutique
“We love being downtown,”
exclaims Castles & Cottages
owner Rosie Jonasson. “I
actually live down here, and I
love seeing and being a part
of all of these privately owned
stores. Each one is unique…
It’s a very different shopping
experience compared to
shopping at franchised stores.”
shopping
More than just picturesque and full of spirit, the downtown core has some of the most unique
and best shopping in the city. From home decor, televisions and computers to fine cheeses,
fancy lingerie and shoes galore. Downtown Kamloops has something for everyone - it’s lined
with boutique shops that give holiday shoppers gift ideas outside of the box.
Grab a bike or snowboard, a new pair of glasses, books, toys or an outfit to go out on the town.
From cell phones to jewellery, Downtown has it all and is ready to share. Retailers here are not
only famous for their goods but for their friendly customer service.

Parade Day
The Kamloops Santa Claus Parade
follows, November 29. Children big
and small wake up early on parade
day, bundle up and come out to
secure their spot on the street.
The day kicks off at 10:30am at
Kamloops Square with Wake Up
Santa and the parade itself starts
promptly at 11am.
The parade starts on 2nd Avenue
and St. Paul Street, travels down
to Victoria Street and then east
to 6th Avenue.
Lights in the Night
Everyone is invited to our
official kick off to Christmas
on November 27 starting
at 4pm. It is a night filled
with holiday shopping
and specials, customer
appreciation events, free
snacks, tastings, holiday
cheer and the IN IT TO
WIN IT gigantic live prize
giveaway. You can stroll the
downtown streets visiting
parties and events all along
the way. Once your feet
get tired, jump on the free
downtown hay ride and catch
a ride to the tree light up,
caroling and holiday parties.
Meet Tom Hammer - Chief
Marshall of the Annual Santa
Claus parade for over the last
decade. Never one to stand in
the spotlight, Tom can be found in
his gator on parade day directing
traffic, instructing the over 75
volunteers, solving problems and
putting out fires. We couldn’t do
the parade without him! Aside
from Santa, he is the single most
important returning member of
the parade committee of elves!

It’s a Festival of
Experiences!
Along with our 6500 residents, we have more
than 10,000 people who come into the downtown
core on a daily basis for a myriad of reasons.
They are shoppers and workers, visitors
and vacationers. They come for the
experiences, the services we provide,
the wonderfully unique shops and
restaurants, our arts scene and
much, much more. Time and time
again, Downtown Kamloops has been
•
touted for being the most absolutely
friendly neighbourhood, a characteristic that
is not easy to forget.
The winter season is no exception. As the long summer
heat subsides, Downtown Kamloops becomes reborn
with the spirit of the holidays.
Our focus is always one in the same – you! We
are all focused on the experience that you have
when you visit us here in the downtown core.
You come for the walkability, the shops and
services, the ambiance, the culture, a product so
good that when you leave we know that you will be
coming back.
There are plenty of reasons to do just that and we have
•
done our best to help you connect with all the daily and
special events, things to do and see and experiences
online at downtownkamloops.com.

Meet Ploughman’s Lunch
Ploughman’s Lunch, located at 152 Victoria Street, is a
family owned restaurant that strives to feed hungry people
in a healthier, heartier way!
“We make everything from scratch,” said Quinn Bailey
of the Ploughman’s. “Our bread is a huge attraction… We
make all the dressings and desserts from scratch. We are
quite popular with people looking for a quick lunch.”
Ploughman’s Lunch prides itself on its welcoming vibe,
making it a great addition to the downtown core! “For a
small business, Victoria Street is basically the only place
you can really expect to make it,” said Quinn. “Small
businesses usually fail in the first few months just because
you are trying to make ends meet… Being downtown
we’ve been able to avoid that, we get lots of tourists and
locals always coming in and out, it has been great!”
dining
Downtown Kamloops plays host to an excellent range of dining possibilities for breakfast,
lunch, and dinner, from fast food to fine dining. Whether you are looking for breakfast, lunch,
dinner or just a snack, the Downtown core offers a diverse and impressive range of choices.
If you can’t decide which one to choose, take a quick walk down the street and follow your
nose. It doesn’t really matter where you go, they are all pretty spectacular.

Meet Exposure Photography
entertainment
& culture
Exposure – A Place for Photography is a unique store and
gallery featuring everything and anything photography
related. Think lessons, workshops, photo services, boutique
items and more.
Located at 351 Victoria Street, the store opened last year and
is owned by Kathryn Learie and Sara Schreiner.
“The goal of Exposure is to promote and inspire professional
photography in Kamloops,” said Kathryn. “We want to raise
the bar in Kamloops in regards to photography, and do our
best to give those who are dedicated and passionate the
opportunity to show their work!”
Walking into Exposure, the character of the retail space
speaks for itself. It’s a great addition to the downtown core.
They work within our area, using many of the buildings,
streets and murals as back drops for their creative photos,
some of which you can see throughout this book.
“We love it down here,” exclaimed Kathryn. “The people who
frequent downtown just happen to be our target market, and
we’re able to get lots of them in the door by being on Victoria
Street. It has been an amazing place to open up a new business!”
Toted as the cultural hub of Kamloops, the downtown does not disappoint when it comes to
entertainment and culture. Whether you are looking for live music, theatre, sports facilities or
a myriad of other entertainment venues, we’re your place. The best way to experience arts
and culture in Kamloops is to simply take a stroll. We have a multitude of private and public
art galleries, many outdoor art installations including an entire back alley art gallery and a
variety of sculptures and statues that will greet you on your way.
