Children big and small wake up early on parade day, bundle up and come out to secure their spot on the street. The day kicks off at 10:30am at Kamloops Square with Wake Up Santa and the parade itself starts promptly at 11am. The parade starts on 2nd Avenue and St. Paul Street, travels down to Victoria Street and then east to 6th Avenue. Lights in the Night Everyone is invited to our official kick off to Christmas on November 27 starting at 4pm. It is a night filled with holiday shopping and specials, customer appreciation events, free snacks, tastings, holiday cheer and the IN IT TO WIN IT gigantic live prize giveaway. You can stroll the downtown streets visiting parties and events all along the way. Once your feet get tired, jump on the free downtown hay ride and catch a ride to the tree light up, caroling and holiday parties. Meet Tom Hammer - Chief Marshall of the Annual Santa Claus parade for over the last decade. Never one to stand in the spotlight, Tom can be found in his gator on parade day directing traffic, instructing the over 75 volunteers, solving problems and putting out fires. We couldn’t do the parade without him! Aside from Santa, he is the single most important returning member of the parade committee of elves! www.kcbia.com 13 For over 12 years we’ve delivered great design, affordable printing and good neighbourly news. We are quite popular with people looking for a quick lunch.” Ploughman’s Lunch prides itself on its welcoming vibe, making it a great addition to the downtown core! “For a small business, Victoria Street is basically the only place you can really expect to make it,” said Quinn. “Small businesses usually fail in the first few months just because you are trying to make ends meet… Being downtown we’ve been able to avoid that, we get lots of tourists and locals always coming in and out, it has been great!” dining Downtown Kamloops plays host to an excellent range of dining possibilities for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, from fast food to fine dining. Whether you are looking for breakfast, lunch, dinner or just a snack, the Downtown core offers a diverse and impressive range of choices. If you can’t decide which one to choose, take a quick walk down the street and follow your nose. It doesn’t really matter where you go, they are all pretty spectacular. Think lessons, workshops, photo services, boutique items and more. Located at 351 Victoria Street, the store opened last year and is owned by Kathryn Learie and Sara Schreiner. “The goal of Exposure is to promote and inspire professional photography in Kamloops,” said Kathryn. “We want to raise the bar in Kamloops in regards to photography, and do our best to give those who are dedicated and passionate the opportunity to show their work!” Walking into Exposure, the character of the retail space speaks for itself. It’s a great addition to the downtown core. They work within our area, using many of the buildings, streets and murals as back drops for their creative photos, some of which you can see throughout this book. “We love it down here,” exclaimed Kathryn. “The people who frequent downtown just happen to be our target market, and we’re able to get lots of them in the door by being on Victoria Street. It has been an amazing place to open up a new business!” Toted as the cultural hub of Kamloops, the downtown does not disappoint when it comes to entertainment and culture. Whether you are looking for live music, theatre, sports facilities or a myriad of other entertainment venues, we’re your place. The best way to experience arts and culture in Kamloops is to simply take a stroll. We have a multitude of private and public art galleries, many outdoor art installations including an entire back alley art gallery and a variety of sculptures and statues that will greet you on your way.
