Neighborhood Neptune Avenue is located in northwest Encinitas and follows the North San Diego County coastline, elevated above the ocean on a coastal bluff. The street scene exhibits the quintessential Southern California lifestyle with surfers, bicyclists, scooters, strollers, skaters, walkers, and slow moving cars. There is world class surfing with names like Stone Steps, Beacons, and Grandview. Neptune is also located in the community of Leucadia, one of Encinitas' five distinct communities. Leucadia is well known for its eclectic nature and slow to change ambience. Riviera Magazine published a story about Leucadia in its Jan/Feb 2012 edition that says it all: "Leucadia is a melting pot of millionaires, working class citizens, surfers, students and [beach bums]. " "...one of the last hippie beach towns in S.D. is quickly becoming a destination, thanks to a bevy of new eateries and a landscape overhaul....."
