Cafeteria News School meals have been a topic of national conversation over the past couple of years. The federal government has imposed calorie guidelines for breakfast and lunch according to grade level. Our cafeteria is a multi-age café that feeds our high school population as well as middle school. The guidelines for the two age groups do not overlap. We try to make our meals hit right in the middle of the two sets of guidelines. Recently, it has been in the news that we do not have an upper limit on protein and grain. This is true, but we still have to meet the calorie limit. We must serve lots of vegetables, fruit, and of course our milk. All of these items as well as our condiments must be figured into our calories for the meal. It is a challenging process that we try to meet on a daily basis. Your student must choose at least ½ c fruit or vegetable daily with each meal for it to be a meal deal. If your student is qualified for free or reduced lunch they are entitled to breakfast for either 30 cents or free. Please encourage your student to make time for breakfast at school; we serve at 7 am and again at 9 am. Please feel free to reach out to me if I have not addressed your particular concern. I welcome your questions and feedback. Veronica Bush, Foodservices Supervisor, [email protected] or call 679-8018x227 AUDITIONS!!!!!! for Leddy's summer blockbuster!!
