S/C: Can you suggest something else that might be linked to the tropical rainforest? To locate tropical rainforests on a world map. To describe the locations of the world’s tropical rainforests. 2 1 To be able to explain factors affecting the equatorial climate. 3 To compare the equatorial climate with the British climate. To apply learning about the equatorial climate to another climate zone of your choice. 5 4 PLATINUM GOLD SILVER BRONZE Not sure What does good learning look like and how to I progress from bronze to platinum? Tropic of Cancer Equator Tropic of Capricorn ‘Tropical rainforests are located...’ Success criteria: Refer to lines of latitude. Refer to continents and particular countries where tropical rainforests are found. 4 minutes Tropic of Cancer Equator Tropic of Capricorn Support and Learning Check Tropical rainforests are located around equator the _________ between the Tropic of Capricorn _________ and the Tropic of ________. The sandbanks have all been covered by the river this month. 7. The ground is "rock hard" today. 8. We set fire to the forest today. 9. The number of rainy days is increasing this month. 10. I picked fruit today. Analyse your climate graphs to answer the questions. S/C: What is the range in temperature and rainfall for the British and Equatorial Climate? 5 minutes Learning Objectives • To locate tropical rainforests on a world map (L3) • To describe the locations of the world’s tropical rainforests (L4). • To be able to explain factors affecting the equatorial climate (L5). • To compare the equatorial climate with the British climate (L6). • To infer why the British climate is different to the equatorial climate (L7) Literacy Objective: to use P.E.E to compare the equatorial climate to the British climate. Homework • Due in: Tuesday 19th January Research and present neatly information on the desert climate: • Where are deserts located? • What is the climate like? • Why are deserts so hot and dry? • Include a picture Your work will be formally assessed after this lesson. What level would you give this piece of work? Temperatures in the equatorial climate are higher than those in the British climate. The highest temperature in the equatorial climate is 29°C and the lowest temperature is 27°C whereas the highest temperature in the British climate is 17°C and the lowest temperature is 4°C. Therefore, the range of temperature in the British climate is greater than that in the equatorial climate. This is because Britain has seasons and the rainforest does not. As a result, it is hot all year round. The reason why the equatorial climate is hotter than the British climate is because of the equator. Tropical rainforests are located around the equator where the sun heats up a small area of land making it very hot. On the other hand, Britain is further away from the equator and the sun heats up a larger area making it colder. What level would you give this piece of work?
