Events
State Level Technical Programme (SLTP) meeting
for the year 2016-17 of Dr.YSRHU was conducted
from 4th - 7th May, 2016 at University Campus.
This programme was inaugurated by Dr. B. M. C.
Reddy, Vice-Chancellor, Dr. K.Purushotham, Former Director of Research, Dr.YSRHU, Dr.
M.Krishna Reddy, Principal Scientist & Head (Pl.
Pathology), IIHR, Dr. K.Srinivas, former Head, Division of Fruits Crops, IIHR, Dr. S.J. Rahman, Principal Scientist (Ento) & Head, AICRP on Biological
Control of Crop Pests & Weeds, Hyderabad and Dr. P.Narayana Reddy, Retd. Professor, Department
of Plant Pathology, College of Agriculture, PJSTSAU, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad along with Dr. J.
DilipBabu, Director of Research, Dr.YSRHU attended this programme as experts to review the technical programmes and provided technical guidance for the new research trials. All the scientists
from research stations and colleges presented the work done during 2015-16 as well as the proposed technical programme for 2016-17.
Annual Action Plan Meeting of KVK’s of Andhra Pradesh
Annual Action Plan Meeting of Krishi Vigyan Kendras of Andhra Pradesh for the year 2016-17 was
held from 10th - 12th May, 2016 at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, RASS, Karakambadi, Tirupati. Heads & Scientists of Krishi Vigyan Kendras in Andhra Pradesh attended the Review cum Action plan meeting.

Dr.R.V.S.K.Reddy, Director of Extension, Dr.YSRHU Chaired
the technical session for review of Godavari Zone and offered critical comments for the improvement of the Technical Programmes. Senior Scientist & Heads of KVK’s of
Dr.YSRHU presented the Technical Programmes of Action
Plan for 2016-17 and work done for 2015-16.
Education
College day celebrations
Annual College Day of SKPP Horticultural Polytechnic, Ramachandrapuram was celebrated on
06.05.2016 and on 12.05.2016 at SSPG Horticulture Polytechnic, Madakasira. Dr. M.L.N Reddy, Dean
of Horticulture and Dr. D. Srihari, Dean of Student Affairs took part in the celebrations as chief
guests and distributed prizes to the winners of various events held on the occassion. After meeting
cultural programme was organised.

Exposure Visit
Dr P. Subbaramamma, Assistant Professor (Plant Physiology) arranged
an exposure visit to Ph D first year students to the ripening chamber at
Post Harvest Technology Station, Venkataramannagudem to get
acquainted with the process of ripening of Mango fruits with Ethylene
gas. Dr. B.Prasanna Kumar, Principal Scientist (Hort) & Head explained
about the functioning of the unit.
An exposure visit was arranged by Dr. M. Raja Naik, Asst. Professor
(Hort) to the students of 3rd year B.Sc (Hons) in Horticulture of
HC&RI, Anantharajupeta to Tirumala on 02-05-2016. Sri. K. Srinivasulu, Deputy Director of Horticulture (Garden Superintendent, TTD)
showed different ornamental plants viz., annual and perennial flowering plants, shrubs, herbaceous plants, climbers and vertical gardening.
Campus Interviews
M/s. Jain Irrigation systems limited conducted an interview for the selection of B. Sc (Hons.) Horticulture and M. Sc (Hort.) final year students for Agronomist/Junior Agronomist posts through
placement cell at HC&RI, VR Gudem on 09.05.2016 and SKPP Horticultural Polytechnic,
Ramachandrapuram on 10.05.2016 and HC & RI, Anantharajupeta on 12.05.2016

Research
New germplasm of tuber crops
Under the survey of collection and evaluation of tuber crop germplasm new genotypes of Tapioca
and aerial Yam were collected by AICRP tuber crops at HRS, VRGudem during 2015-16.
Cassava
Edible sweet Tapioca genotype (NC.4.14/ PA-46) was collected from Balijipeta mandal of Vizianagaram district. This genotype was evaluated by
comparing with other edible genotypes. Out of the edible genotypes tested,
NC.4.14/ PA-46 recorded less amount of HCN (24.6ppm), high percentage
of total sugars (11.4 %) with tuber yield of 2.2 kg/plant.
Aerial yam
Arial Yam (Diascorea bulbifera) was collected from Thotaguda village of
Seethampeta mandal, Srikakulam dist. Aerial bulbils were observed at 45
days after planting and each plant produced 20-25 bulbils/plant.
Sweet potato
Dr.P.Ashok, Scientist (Hort), HRS, Venkataramannagudem developed hybrid
population from the crosses made between ST-14 (Female) and Kalinga
(Male). Out of the Fourteen orange fleshed F1 hybrids tested, VRSP-1 has
given the highest yield of 30-35 t/ha with high total sugars (7.8 %) and beta
carotene (6.3mg/100 g of FW) when compared with the released variety
kiran.

Pre Action Plan Meeting of KVK’s
Dr.R.V.S.K.Reddy, Director of Extension conducted Pre Action Plan Meeting of 2016-17 to the KVK’s
of the university on 03.05.2016 and reviewed the Technical Programmes of Krishi Vigyan Kendra,
Pandirimamidi & Venkataramannagudem at KVK, Venkataarmannagudem.
Training Programmes
Dr. L. Naram Naidu, Prinicipal Scientist (Hort), HRS, Lam attended training programme of stakeholders on “Cluster Development and Promotion of Green Chilli Exports” organized by Confederation of Indian Industry, APEDA and Department of Horticulture at Guntur on 03.05.2016.
Dr. L. Mukundalakshmi, Scientist (Hort), Smt G. Sarada, Scientist (Ento) and
Dr.T. Rajasekharam, Scientist (Path), CRS, Tirupathi attended Rhytu Runa
Mela programme of Tomato farmers organized by Dept. of Horticulture at
Madanapalli and suggested solutions to various technical problems faced by
the farmers in tomato cultivation on 09.05.2016
Guest lecture
General
Dr K. Srinivas, Principal Scientist & Head (Fruits), IIHR, Bengaluru delivered a guest lecture on “Integrated water and nutrient management in
fruit crops” for the benefit of Staff, UG and PG students at HC&RI,
Venkataramannagudem on 06-05-2016.

Meetings attended
Dr. J. DlilpBabu, Director of Research along with Sri.Chiranjeev Choudhary, Commissioner of Horticulture, Govt of AP attended Kadiyam Nursery Development Committee Meeting at Rajamahendravaram on
12.05.2016 and discussed about various constraints faced by the nursery
farmers and possibilities of market tie-up for the planting material produced at Kadiyam.
Dr. C. Sarada, Senior Scientist (Hort) and Smt.T.Vijayalakshmi , Scientist (Pl. Pathology), HRS, Lam
attended group meeting of AICRP on Vegetables at IARI, New Delhi from 10.05.2016 to 13.05.2016.
Swachh Bharath programme
Swacchh Bharath programme was organised by the Students and Staff of SKPP Horticultural Polytechnic, Ramachandrapuram at Draksharamam Temple on 02.05.2016 where in temple premises
were cleaned.
Farewell Party
Final year students of B.Sc (Hons) in Horticulture of HC&RI, Anantharajupeta were given grand farewell by the third year students on 10-05-2016.
Dr. D. Sri Hari, Dean of Student Affairs was the chief guest and Sri
K.Sreenivasulu, Deputy Director of Horticulture and Garden Superindent,
TTD, Dr. B. Govindarajulu, Principal Scientist & Head, CRS, Petlur as guests
of honour attended the function.
Yoga Fest
Yoga fest was conducted at SKPP Horticultural Polytechnic,
Ramachandrapuram on 12.05.2016 and 13.05.2016 during which
importance of yoga in improving the physical and mental health was
explained to the students and staff. Yogasanas were practiced during
the programme.
