School’s out for summer . . . and EFYCC again comes to the rescue of parents by offering a number of supervised programs for children that are fun and educational. Signature activities include the Summer Camp for Kids, Junior Tennis Summer Camp and the Summer Sailing Camp. All kick-off on June 9 with registrations now being accepted. For those who enjoy beating the heat by lounging poolside will appreciate Chef Tim’s expanded menu of salads, sandwiches and refreshing beverages at the Wheel House Café. And speaking of the swimming pool, I encourage all members to come out to the Family Pool on the afternoon of June 3 and June 19 to cheer on our own EFYCC swim team as they compete in swim meets against other area youngsters. Lastly, don’t buy Dad another tie this Father’s Day. Rather, treat him to the poolside barbecue cookout we’re hosting on June 15. It’s here that GGC members will gather for an afternoon of fun golf and shared camaraderie. Golfers of all skill levels are welcome to join in as the Golf Pro Shop will create equally balanced and matched foursomes from the list of registrants. For a registration fee attractively priced at $60, each member will receive practice range balls, a golf gift set, 18-holes with cart and light refreshments after the round. And here’s an added treat sure to please . . . the culinary teams from each of the four GATE clubs will host a different par-3 hole on the course. As each golfer passes through, they will receive a complimentary food specialty and signature beverage. Golf has never been this much fun! Club Happenings WEDNESDAY is Family Dining Night Families continue to enjoy the fun and value of Family Night every Wednesday. It’s here from 5-8 p.m. , the children’s knee-high buffet is featured along with the Terrace dining menu. The young ones also receive a complimentary dessert. One of the Cub’s Den attendants will lead the children in an activity or craft. May themes include School’s Out For Summer! It’s here that members will enjoy complimentary light hors d’oeuvres, Happy Hour pricing on bar beverages and live entertainment. Here’s to good times! Join fellow members on Thursday, June 26 from 5-7 p.m. for another in the popular series of global wine tastings. This month, we’ll compare a delightful selection of wines from Italy and Spain. Expect a night where a popular selection of IPAs from the Chicagobased Goose Island Brewery is paired with a thoughtful three-course menu designed by Chef Turner. A craft beer expert will educate all on the uniqueness of the brewing process. A 6 p.m. reception will precede the 6:30 p.m. dinner. $50 per person with service charge and tax additional. Members are invited to gather in the Chartroom Lounge on Saturday, June 7 at 6 p.m. to watch the televised broadcast of the U.S. Soccer Men’s National Team compete against the National Team of Nigeria. This match is a final tune-up before Team USA departs for Brazil to participate in the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Happy Hour beverage specials will be featured. Tennis News Junior Tennis Summer Camp Six, four-day instructional tennis camps are being offered from June through August for juniors (ages 5-12). Here’s a great opportunity for youngsters to learn the game or take their skills to a higher level. Focus will be on stroke development, the playing of points ... and FUN! SUP Classes Stand-Up Paddle Boarding classes (SUP) have arrived at Epping Forest! One of the fastest growing water sports, SUP provides participants with a total body workout. Each 60-minute class, conducted at the Marina by the experts at Black Creek Outfitters, will introduce you to the fun and thrill of paddle boarding. Future classes will include Paddle Board Yoga. $45 per class. Named in honor of Jessie Ball duPont, this is the second race in the North Florida Women’s Sailing series. Registration is from 10–11:45 a.m., the race starts at 12:55 p.m. and awards presented afterwards along with hors d’oeuvres, beer and sodas. The meeting will commence at 6 p.m. All Epping Forest Club members are invited to attend this monthly event. Summer Sailing Camps Ahoy junior sailors! Epping Forest is now taking reservations for the popular Summer Sailing Camps. Nine week long camps have been designed for youngsters ages 8-17. No prior experience is needed. All will learn to sail while enjoying such fun activities as treasure hunts, swimming and more. Experienced sailors will explore the river, learn advanced techniques (like sailing backwards) and participate in sailboat racing. JU Student Recognized The prestigious Stephen Nichols Sailing Achievement Award, recognizing Jacksonville University’s Sailor of the Year was presented recently to JU student Matthew Martin at a ceremony conducted at Epping Forest Yacht & Country Club. Presenting the award were former Epping Forest Commodore Jim Callahan and Epping Forest member Nancy Nichols. This honor is made annually in the memory of former EFYCC Harbormaster Steve Nichols who worked tirelessly in promoting youth sailing and boating activities throughout Northeast Florida. The award is accompanied by a scholarship, funded in part, by members from Epping Forest Yacht & Country Club. Expect fun, music, a build your own sub sandwich for dinner and games such as corn hole, ladder ball, Wii, ping pong, giant jenga, and more. Kids Pizza Party The next Pizza Party for Kids will be held on Friday, June 20 from 6:30-10 p.m. in the Cub’s Den. This month’s theme is ‘Camp Out in the Playground’ where the young ones (4-12 yrs.) will enjoy a fun night of camping activities. All will roast marshmallows, make s’mores, and watch a movie outdoors in the Playground. Bring a pillow and sleeping bag for the movie! Pizza, beverages and dessert included. Saturday Night Fun The theme of the next Saturday Night Out for Kids on June 7 is ‘Gone Fishin’. It’s here that kids (ages 4-12) will participate in fun fishing games and activities. Kids Biathlon Epping Forest Yacht and Country Club will host the 3rd Annual Kids Biathlon on Wednesday, July 23. This event will feature a distanced swim in our family pool followed by a timed run in the Gardens. Prizes will be awarded for the overall fastest female and male in each age group.
