Welcome to Guardian Angel Cathedral
Our Cathedral was built as a Shrine in 1963 primarily to serve
visitors to Las Vegas. At the time, Nevada was one Catholic
Diocese - the Diocese of Reno. In 1976, Pope Paul VI created the
Diocese of Reno-Las Vegas, with the Guardian Angel Shrine as the
co-Cathedral. As the population of Southern Nevada continued to
grow, Guardian Angel Shrine became a parish in 1980. In 1995,
the Holy See, in recognition of the tremendous growth taking
place in Nevada, divided the Diocese of Reno-Las Vegas, creating
the Diocese of Reno and the Diocese of Las Vegas.
Guardian Angel Cathedral serves our local families and
parishioners as well as countless numbers of visitors who attend
Mass in this sacred space every day of the year. We welcome all
and encourage our visitors to consider the Cathedral as your
church away from home. The kindness and generosity of the
people of God make it possible for Guardian Angel Cathedral to
continue our important ministries and services. Thank you!!

SYMBOLISM OF THE HOLY DOOR
“I am the gate. Whoever enters through me will be saved, and will
come in and go out and find pasture.” John 10:9
Pope John Paul II stated the Holy Door ”…evokes the passage
from sin to grace which every Christian is called to accomplish.”
Pope Francis wrote, “the Holy Door will become a Door of Mercy
through which anyone who enters will experience the love of God
who consoles, pardons, and instills hope.”
The passing through the Door symbolizes an experience of
conversion from the state of sin to the state of grace; an
entrance into a new way of life. The door is Jesus Christ.
TO RECEIVE A PLENARY INDULGENCE
The Church requires the following:
Receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation
Receive Holy Communion
Offer prayers for the intentions of the Holy Father
Passing through the Door of Guardian Angel Cathedral or any
other church designated in our diocese by the Bishop during the
year of Mercy.
SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION – CONFESSIONS DURING THE
HOLY YEAR OF MERCY
The Cathedral offers eleven opportunities each week to make a
good confession. Every weekday (Monday-Friday) there are
two confession opportunities 7:30am and 11:30am. Also on
Saturday morning confessions are heard from 11:30am to
12:00 Noon. It is always best to come early.
