Happy Valentines Day! Happy Canadian National Flag Day (15th) and Happy
Presidents’ Day in the USA (16th) which is the same day that Canadians
celebrate Family Day. Then, there is Shrove Tuesday (17th) and Ash
Wednesday (18th) and the Chinese New Year (19th). At the beginning of the
month there was Super Bowl Sunday (1st) and Ground Hog Day (2nd). Did you
realize that there were so many things to celebrate in the middle of winter? I
was surprised. On second thought, maybe we won’t celebrate the outcome
of the Super Bowl. But I will celebrate my granddaughter’s birthday (15 th)!
At the end of January (19 – 24), there was another celebration. Although it
wasn’t a national holiday, those who gathered in Robstown, TX for the
Mid-Winter International Board of Trustees (IBT) meeting, celebrated friendships and fun, in addition to
the work that we did.
International President, Joe Perryman, reported progress on the action items that he had
presented at the beginning of his term. Some were: News & Views has returned, we have

an online directory, glitches in File Maker have mostly been resolved, we will have online

renewals by the next cycle and the membership survey results will be published in the
February Blue Beret. There was also a search, interviewing and hiring of Lori Plummer as
the WBCCI Corporate Manager. At the time of IBT, there were 319 rigs registered for
Farmington. (Subsequently, I have counted over 70 people from Region 10 on the list of those who have
registered including 5 Unit Presidents. Yeah! And there’s always room for more)!
There were Committee Reports and Gail Harrower, Chairman of the International Peace Garden Monument,
presented a power point of the project. The Amateur Radio Intra-Club had a report, too.

Following is a brief description of the motions that were before us:
Motion 1- Approving the hiring of Lori Plummer passed unanimously.

Motion 2 - Striking out Lifetime Membership for Past International Presidents – It was adopted.
Motion 3 – Striking the phrase “or for the discontinuance of the Lifetime Membership program” from two
policies. The intent was to assure Lifetime Members that the program would continue. It was adopted.
Motion 4 – Payment of dues after July 1 closed a loophole where some members would not renew and then
they would sign-up again like a new member and be given a year and a half of membership. This was
adopted.
Motion 5 – Changing the Fiscal Year was withdrawn.
Motion 6 – Rally Site Committee was withdrawn, with the promise by President Joe that he would appoint a
committee to explore ways to help in the selection of International Rally sites. Joe has subsequently made
the appointments.
Motion 7 – After a couple of revisions, was adopted. Chairmen’s reports will be published on the WBCCI
website prior to the Mid-Winter IBT and the IBT meetings during the International Rally. The reports need not
be read aloud at the meetings.
Motion 8 – After some revisions, was adopted. Chairmen of Standing Committees will be appointed by the
International President, approved by the Executive Committee, for a term of one year. They may be reappointed by the incoming International President. A committee should have a minimum of two additional members.
Names and contact information of the committee chairs shall be published in the WBCCI
directory and website to allow members to contact the chairs directly and volunteer for any
committee . . . The chair may also invite members to serve on his/her committee and in the

event of a vacancy . . .the chair shall advertise the opening and select a replacement

A courtesy report was given by the Nominating Committee. (Interviews for elected
positions happen at the Mid-Winter IBT). A 2015 – 2016 slate of candidates for Officers and Nominating
Committee members (who will be elected by the Delegates in Farmington) follows:

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE CONT’D
A sweet thing happened at the rally. I donated some money to the charity of one of the Texas Units
(Children’s Hospital in Houston) and was given 6 tickets. There was going to be a drawing for two items: a
basket full of goodies including a bottle of wine and a huge box, shaped like the State of Texas, full of
chocolate candy. I couldn’t believe it when one of my tickets was called for the chocolates. Afterwards, when
I was holding the huge box, I was amazed by how many friends I had, all willing to help me eat the chocolates.
Since the box fit into the bottom of my large suitcase, they flew home with me to be shared with friends in
the WA Land Yacht Harbor.
Besides the business that we handled, there were several meals and entertainment. It’s always fun to meet,
greet and catch up with friends from all over the USA and Canada and we had our times of fellowship. Indeed,
Barb and Andy Selking (he’s the Region 9 President) did a lovely job of hosting all of us.
Bob & Darlene Caldwell, Mona Heath and I had a chance to talk about some Region things. Of course, we
found the ice cream places in Robstown, too.
Would you like to Caravan to Farmington? I’m aware of two caravans in the planning stages: Tom Akam, BC
Unit President, [email protected] and Don Lisius, WA Unit, [email protected] Check out their
itineraries to see if one would work for you and have the joy of traveling with other Airstreamers. If you
haven’t registered for the Convention/Rally yet, you’ll find a coupon on page 44 of the February 2015 Blue
Beret.
Just a few pages beyond, in the same Blue Beret, there is an article about the 50th Pendleton Round-up
National Rally. On page 49 there is a description for two options: (1) the Full Rally from Sept. 14 – 20 and (2)
Weekend Rally from Sept. 17-20. The coupon to register is on page 72. Teresa Taylor and Janet Howell are
the hosts and they would like to see “50 for 50,” meaning 50 rigs for 50 years.
ATTENTION! 2013-2014 Unit Presidents, who have not sent their Application for a Merit Award to me, yet, I
must have them in the mail to the Chairperson during the last week in February. The deadline is March 1 st. I
need to have those ASAP. Thanks.
I noticed on the Rally and Caravan Schedule for Region 10 (printed in our December newsletter) that four of
our Units are having events on the 14th. So, enjoy the Airstream Fellowship and “Happy Valentine’s Day.”

Darlene and I attended the Mid-Winter IBT Rally and Meeting in
Robstown, Texas – without the Airstream this year. It was a good
IBT and much was accomplished to move the Club forward. This
year, Carol, Mona and I all attended. That allowed us some time
to get together and discuss issues and learn together what is
happening in the Club. We all participate in the Region and International Officers’ discussions while we are there as well as
attending the formal IBT Meetings.

I want to remind you all that our Membership Goals for this year are:
Increase the membership in each Unit in Region 10 each year for the next two years
Encourage each Unit to develop a Membership Growth and Retention Plan that includes a Mentoring
Policy
Focus on Retention of Existing Members
Please note that the last goal is a new one for this year. It has been added after our discussions at the
Mid-Winter IBT and after reviewing the number of non-renewals. Due to the changes at Headquarters, it
is difficult to be exact, but many of our Units appear to be losing too many of the new members we
worked hard to get in the last few years. This is in addition to those members who do not renew due to
age or inability to participate.
We will monitor this closely this year and develop strategies to discuss with our Unit Leaders.
Personal Contact
My suggestion to all members at this time is to use the many means of communication we have available
to us – and in particular the telephone – and connect with as many of your fellow members as possible to
encourage them to renew if they haven’t yet.
Possibly the Membership Chair in each Unit could organize a call-out to be sure that those that have not
renewed get a personal contact.

Headquarters is contacting over 800 members by email to encourage them to renew; I believe your personal
contact would really help.
Pendleton Roundup Rally and International
In this and subsequent Newsletters, the Pendleton Roundup Rally is being
advertised and I would like to personally urge members to consider attending this
50th Anniversary Rally in 2015. Region 10 Officers are active in the planning and
production of this Special Event. I know that at least one Unit is organizing a
caravan to Pendleton this year; maybe others could do the same. MORE
ATTENDANCE MEANS MORE FUN FOR ALL! Let’s have 50 rigs for the 50th year!
Also, please consider joining us for this year’s International Rally in Farmington,
New Mexico and support the efforts of Joe and Sandy Perryman, International
President and First Lady – from our Region 10.
Region Officers and Volunteers
Between now and June is the time we will be renewing the Region Leadership
Team – Officers and committee Chairmen. At this point, we do not have any
candidates for the position of Second Vice President – even though Adolf Knopp has been very diligent in his
search as Nominating Committee Chairman.
I (with help from Carol) are currently contacting Members to serve with Mona and I and the Unit Presidents
on the Board. We also are soon going to be contacting the current Chairs of committees to ask them if they
want to continue to serve (or possibly try a new activity area). Anticipating that there will be some changes,
please contact me if you want to be part of the team! New ideas are welcome too!

about joining our club – odds are that they will thank you for welcoming them!

Pendleton, Oregon Round Up 50th Anniversary
Where is the time going? I am working hard with Teresa Taylor to make this a great celebration of
Airstream participation in the Pendleton Round -Up.
From the time that you arrive in Pendleton, the fun starts. From setting up your trailers to catching up
with your Airstream friends that attended these events before, to making new friends. Connecting is just
a small part of the event.
Last year, my husband and I had the opportunity to introduce our cousin Gillian
Stracker from London England to the “as she called it the Wild West.” We had
so much fun watching the events through new eyes. Her fascination with the
culture and way of life of the Cowboys and Cowgirls. This was her first
experience with such an event.
She said she would do this again in a heartbeat.
You should have seen Gillian’s face when we had Breakfast with the Rodeo Court and the Indian Princess at Roosters Restaurant. (when one of
the Indian Princess sat beside her for breakfast. ) Gillian is seen here
between Bridgette Sooke and
Princess Marissa Baumgartner.
The Underground tour is another great piece of the history to be seen in
Pendleton. What a colourful place to be! The underground was home
to many things, Opium Dens, and Ice Cream Parlour, a Speak Easy, Pool Halls and bowling alleys. And then
there are story’s about the Girls - colourful is a great way to put it. Here is Gillian and Carol Ortiz enjoying
the interpretation of the tour.
So if you are trying to fill in sometime for this September, come and help us
make the 50th Anniversary a great party and an even better memory.

REPORT FROM 2ND VP MONA HEATH
Airstreams – they’re everywhere! From commercials, travel
& lifestyle blogs, social media (Facebook & Instagram) and
celebrities – the love affair with Airstream is evident. With a

expansion that will eventually increase production capacity
from the current rate of 50 travel-trailers per week by an

A little closer to home, a story about Airstream Camping is
scheduled to air on Oregon Public Broadcasting (OPB) – TV’s
Oregon Field Guide. The producer initially contacted Patricia
Scoggins - Oregon Unit President (who then contacted Region
10 Officers), inquiring about the possibility of interviewing and filming Oregon Airstream owners.

As luck would have it the Region 10 Rally took place along the Oregon Coast, providing the perfect
setting and diversity of members enjoying the Airstream lifestyle. The OPB Oregon Field Guide crew spent an entire
day filming &
conducting interviews on location and very much enjoyed the welcoming spirit of the Region 10
Airstream community.

When NBC News was preparing a story on the Airstream lifestyle, the participants of the NorCal Caravan to
AlumaFiesta (which included a few Region 10 members) provided some great photos:

In the works is an Airstream documentary from Eric Bricker, the director of Visual Acoustics http://
www.juliusshulmanfilm.com/about-the-director/. Eric has immersed himself into the Airstream brand, community and
lifestyle – spending time with members of the North Texas Airstream Club (NTAC); filming and interviewing Airstream
owners & club members at the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta and the Palm Springs Modernism Week Vintage Trailer
Show, several of whom are from Region 10.
While many of the examples in this article originated through the media, we are in a unique position to inform and
inspire them with additional content. Take a look at your rally schedule and, if you have a rally (or rallies) planned that
illustrate the Airstream and club lifestyle, contact local media and invite them to join you for the day. Provide
two-three key points of interest (e.g. unique location, trailers, activities) and have a contact person on-site to act as a
liaison between the press and club members.
Let’s capitalize on the momentum of the Airstream brand! Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any

Food for Thought
Raspberry Rave A perfect Valentine Treat
Easy to make - has an intense Raspberry flavour
Ingredients

2 (10 ounce) packages frozen red raspberries, in syrup, thawed

1 (20 ounce) cans crushed pineapple

2 (3 ounce) packages raspberry gelatin powder

1 cup boiling water

1 cup sour cream
Directions
1. In sieve, drain berries and pineapple over a bowl.
2. Press the fruit with spoon until you have 2 cups juice.
3. In med bowl, dissolve the gelatin in the boiling water.
4. Stir in the 2 cups of juice, the fruit, and the sour cream until blended well.
5. Pour into serving bowl and chill until firm.
