Race Shift Pattern with Ducati OEM Quick with Ducati OEM Quick
Race Shift Pattern with Ducati OEM Quick Shifter (848 Corse SE / 1198 SP etc)
Facts
- Race shift is not possible with original QS equipment supplied with the standard motorcycle
- There seems to be little or no Ducati or aftermarket support for this OEM QS issue
- I have read one or 2 possible cheap solutions on forums.. So not too many in 2 years !
- It’s frustrating because I note that there are already solutions available for the similarly
equipped Panigale with similar QS system (aftermarket “flipped” rear-sets
sets already on sale)
Most racers just suggest buying a complete new aftermarket Quick Shifter system and rear sets (at
great expense). Poduim Racing say they are designing rear sets to address the problem but they are
not yet ready (due Spring 2013?).
2013?). An ingenious guy in Brazil made his own solution (simple

Here is my particular solution which is quite cheap compared to buying bespoke rear-sets
rear
and uses a
lot of what you already have. I hope it helps.
help It only takes 2 or 3 hours, once you have the parts.
The following conditions apply:
1) You like the position of the OEM foot pegs and have no need for expensive adjustable rear sets.
2) You don’t mind machining/grinding
machining/grind the OEM footrest hanger ( I had a spare one for track use)
(see below after modifying)

3) You can find a cheap gear shift lever.
lever It must be straight (no offset). It must have a roller
bearing mount for mounting on a foot-peg
foot
assembly (some rear brake levers will also do the
trick). This one is a SATO lever I salvaged from an old damaged set of Aprilia
April RSV 2004 rearsets. The important thing is that you need to “flip it over” to put the gear shift linkage
mounting point at the top.
4) You also need a longer shift linkage and a cheap aftermarket racing footpeg.
The following Figures provide a rough guide as to what I did.
It seems to work very well ..............

The above lever is “item No 12” in the SATO PDF parts listing. See flowing link:

A new lever from SATO however will cost over $100 ...

Final Specifications for Quick Shifter with Race Shift (1 up 5 down)
-
Use of original QS system
Use of original footrest hangers
High quality Roller Bearing shift lever
Footpegs stick out less by approx 10mm ( = additional cornering ground clearance)
No negative issues that I can think of (apart from the permanent mod to your original LH
Hanger). If you need to go back to road shift then you can just flip the SATO shift lever back to
“normal orientation”. The QS system will work for both configurations.
WORKS JUST
FINE !! ☺
