History of the Orange County Office
Buchalter Nemer first opened its doors in Newport Beach in 1983
to better serve the firm’s Orange County-based clients. We started
with three shareholders and three associates, assisting clients in
the areas of financial services, real estate, insolvency and litigation.
Since then, we have moved to Irvine, grown to nearly 30 attorneys
and expanded beyond our core services into a full service office,
serving clients on a nationwide basis. We now offer wide-ranging
expertise in a number of burgeoning areas of the law—among them
aviation, corporate, health care, intellectual property, labor and
employment, land use and tax—in addition to those core areas first
established more than 30 years ago in Newport Beach. We work
with businesses across industries, helping them grow from garage to
IPO and all stages in between. We keep our clients apprised of their
legal obligations, address issues before they become problems, and
we have their backs when surprises arise. We invite you to view our

History of Buchalter Nemer
In 1948, three young California attorneys—Irwin R. Buchalter, Jerry
Nemer and Murray Fields—founded a firm to serve the area’s
growing, post-war commercial community. As a young and thriving
California practice, Buchalter Nemer began by assisting clients
in business and finance, and representing them in litigation and
insolvency.
As the business community grew, the firm grew along with it,
diversifying and expanding to meet new and growing demands. We
met the challenges of client growth by expanding the firm’s size and
capabilities. We merged with a leading business firm—Gitelson,
Cooper, Coyle & Savitch—in 1957, and added intellectual property,
labor and employment, real estate and tax to better address the
growing complexities of doing business in a growing global business
community. Buchalter Nemer Fields & Younger was established in
1979 when former California Attorney General Evelle Younger joined
the practice.
In 2005, the firm expanded and deepened its strong regional
presence with the acquisition of Arizona-based Anderson Brody
Levinson & Weiser, bolstering the firm’s existing strengths in the
financial services and real estate sectors. In January 2010, nine
attorneys from San Francisco land use and real estate boutique,
Ellman Burke Hoffman and Johnson, joined the firm in San Francisco.
Today, from our offices in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Orange County
and Scottsdale, Buchalter Nemer lawyers provide full-service
representation to financial institutions, corporations and business
entities regionally, nationally and internationally.
