Academic Life
The Campus
Merced College, situated in the center of the San
Joaquin Valley, is a California public community
college operated by the Merced Community College
District, which was formed by a vote of the people
of the Le Grand Union High School District and the
Merced Union High School District on February 27,
1962.
The permanent site of the college is located
one mile north of Olive Avenue in Merced,
California. It consists of 269 acres, 110 of which
were presented as a gift to the college by the
C-H-M Company and the Yosemite Land and
Cattle Company through the efforts of Merced City
officials.
The campus originally was limited to a few
classes held at the Merced County Fairgrounds.
Today, Merced College has an enrollment over
13,000 students, both full and part-time, who attend
day and evening classes. In addition to a very
complete day program, Merced College provides
evening classes on Main Campus, the Los Banos
Campus, South Merced, Planada, Livingston,
Mariposa, Le Grand, Chowchilla, and Yosemite
National Park.
Merced College is fully acredited by the Western
Association of Schools and Colleges, and is
approved by the State Department of Education, the
Veterans Administration for the training of veterans
under the provisions of the G.I. Bill of Rights, and
by the United States Immigration Service.
In addition to an academically sound
environment, the on-campus students and visitors
may enjoy the sight of year-round blooming foliage.

Merced College is an appropriate school to
attend, both for the newly-graduated high school
senior and the student re-entering the academic
world. Course offerings are designed to prepare
the student for either employment upon graduation
or continuation to a four-year institution. Special
assistance in the form of tutorial aid is given to
students in the areas of English, Math, Science
and various other fields. Merced College offers
diversified technical-vocational two-year programs
in the field of agriculture, business, nursing, and
industrial technology, to name a few.

Greg Mesa
3B, Catcher
1971 - 1972
2013 Hall of Fame Induction (Initial)
Greg Mesa played for both Don Odishoo and Butch Hughes. Greg was one of the first great all-around
players who seemed to come through whenever the team needed it. Showing just how good he really
was is the fact that in 1971 he played third base then converted to catcher his sophomore year. Greg was
named to the 1st Team All-Central Conference both years at both third base and catcher. In 1971 he was
voted Team MVP, and Team Outstanding Hitter. In 1972 he was named Mr. Baseball. During that season
he successfully had a hit in 22 games in a row, a school record that still stands today.

a single game with 5 vs Porterville in 1972. Has the record for most stolen bases in a game with 5 vs
Monterey Peninsula in 1973.
Blue Devils were 23-10 in 1972, and 32-6 in 1973 when Kevin played on the team. The 32 win season in
