Sarfraz appointed
Pakistan T20 captain
Lahore, Apr 5: Wicketkeeper batsman Sarfraz
Ahmed has replaced
Shahid Afridi as the
captain of the Pakistan
Twenty20 team.
Sarfraz, who was
appointed vice-captain
of Pakistan's One-Day
International (ODI)
and T20 teams last year,
took over the captaincy
of the shortest form of
the game after Afridi
stepped down following a poor campaign at
the World Twenty20 in
India.
"I spoke to Sarfraz this morning
and conveyed to
him that he was
our
natural
choice for this
position. His
appointment is
open-ended. I
wish him good
luck in his new
role," Pakistan
Afridi welcomed
Ahmed's appointment,
congratulating the new
captain on social media
platform Twitter. "Good
decision to see @SarfarazA_54 leading PAK
T-20 he is energetic, passionate and a fighter!"
Afridi tweeted.
Ahmed has a good
record in the longer
versions of the game
as well. He has played
21 Tests, scoring 1,296
runs at a healthy average of 46.28. He has also
featured in 58 One-Day
Internationals (ODI), in
which he has notched
up 1,077 runs at an average of 29.91.
Pakistan are scheduled play only three
T20 Internationals this
year, one against World
T20 runners-up England
and two against newlycrowned world champions West Indies. IANS
Cricket Board (PCB)
chairman Shaharyar
Khan said in a statement on Tuesday.
Ahmad played in all
four of Pakistan's group
matches at the World
Twenty20. The men in
green lost three of those
matches -- including to
arch-rivals India -- to
crash out of the tournament.
Ahmed has a good
strike rate of 120.24 in
21 Twenty20 internationals, but was underutilised by the Pakistan
team management at
the World T20 as he was
used as a lower-order
batsman.
The 28-year-old had
a successful stint at
the inaugural Pakistan
Super League, leading
the Quetta Gladiators to
the final where they lost
to the Misbah-ul-Haqled Islamabad United.

PCB chief apologises to Waqar
for leakage of report
Karachi, Apr 5: Pakistan's
outgoing coach Waqar
Younis has received an apology from the Cricket Board
(PCB) for the leakage of his
confidential report on the
national team's poor performance in the just-concluded ICC World Twenty20 in
India.
PCB chairman Shaharyar
Khan has confirmed that he
had met Waqar yesterday and
apologised to him. "Waqar
might not have been able
to produce desired results
with the national team but
he remains one of our top
players and has big status in
cricket. It was unfortunate
that his confidential report
was leaked to the media from
the board," Shaharyar said.
"I apologised to Waqar and
wished him the best after he
informed me and had decided
to resign as head coach. But
the meeting was held in a good
environment and I have promised him the board will hold an
inquiry to find out how a confidential report was leaked,"
he said.
Waqar's two-year coaching stint was due to expire in
May and sources aware of the
developments said that he was
keen to continue until the tour
to England this summer.
"But apparently it was conveyed to Waqar that the board
has decided to act on the recommendations of the fact-finding
committee and hunt for a new
coach," one source said.
Gulmarg to host SnowShoe
championship on Sunday
in any part of the Country. Gulmarg will get the distinction of
hosting that. It is more of introducing Snowshoe activity in
State and Country rather than
a championship,” said SSFI
President Mir Mudassar.
“We have chosen around
24 athletes from all over the
Valley who will participate
in the event. They are going
to compete in the qualifying
rounds and only top eight
among them will take participate in the final run,” he said.
He said that for the event
Tourism officials at Gulmarg
will prepare track in the Gulmarg bowl so that everyone
can see athletes running using
the Snowshoe equipment.
“SnowShoe is simply running using snowshoe equipment. It is not much different
from normal running except
the equipment use. We have
only eight pairs of the equipment available with us that
were provided to us by TSL outdoors while we were in Italy.
The equipment is not available anywhere in India and
we are trying to import more
in coming year,” he added.
“I have already been
trying hard to develop water
sports in the state and now
I have I have to do same at
national level. It will also
help me to learn lot of things
which in turn will help me to
give something back to home
State,” Bilques added.
