Tim Uppal, Minister of State (Democratic Reform) made the following statement on the passage at second reading and referral to committee of Fair Representation Act: “Canadians living in Ontario, British Columbia, and Alberta have become significantly underrepresented as their populations have grown.” The Fair Representation Act updates the formula allocating House of Commons seats to provinces. Under the new legislation: Ontario will receive an additional 15 seats; British Columbia will receive an additional 6 seats; and Alberta will receive an additional 6 seats. http://www.democraticreform.gc.ca/index.asp?lang=eng&page=newscomm&sub=news-comm&doc=20111103-eng.htm Keeping the Economy Our Top Priority Jim Flaherty, Minister of Finance, announced that pre-budget consultations for Budget 2012 would begin early December 2011, and that the new budget will stay squarely focused on economic growth, protecting jobs, reducing the deficit, and returning to balanced budgets in the medium term. Although Canada is not immune to the economic uncertainties still facing the global economy, Canadians gave our Conservative Government a strong mandate to stay focused on what matters most – job creation and economic growth. http://www.conservative.ca/press/news_releases/keeping_the_economy_our_top_priority Question of the Month Q: How long does it take to process my passport application? It was nice meeting and talking to some of you at the passport clinic on Saturday, November 26, 2011 in Parry Sound. I hope that the passport clinic was helpful for those who came out to apply for passports. At the event, I frequently received questions regarding the process time of the passport application. It usually takes 20 business days for Passport Canada to process those applications sent by mail. This does not count delivery times, so you might need to add 3 to 5 days for them to arrive at your door. If you decided to send the application in person at a Passport Canada counter, it usually takes 10 days. If you need to travel within the next 20 business days and need to pick up your passports urgently, you can do so by paying extra fees for the pick-up services. For more information on processing times, please visit http://www.ppt.gc.ca/cdn/service.aspx ?lang=eng®ion=Canada I want to hear from you! Click here to send me your questions, and yours may be featured in the next issue!
