Professor John Klock
John Klock was born in Denver, Colorado
and is a Collegiate Associate Professor in Life
Sciences. He works for the University of
Maryland- Asian Division (UMUC-AD). The
University of Maryland Asian Division
provides traditional courses to US military
communities across Asia and the Pacific since
1956. The university has extensions in
Australia, Guam, Japan, Korea, Kwajalein,
Okinawa, Singapore, Thailand and in Europe.
"I teach on US military bases. 1also
sometimes work as a regional consultant with
UNESCO, (United Nations Education and
Scientific Organization)." John told me in a
recent e-mail.
John graduated Colorado State University
in 1983 with a degree in Natural Resources
Management. He received two masters from
Ohio University, an M.S. in Plant Biology and
an M.A. in International Affairs.
In May of 1983, John took some time off
his studies and climbed Mt. McKinley in
Alaska with his brother, Mike and his
-
Uncle Conrad Lapp. "It took us 18 days up the
West Buttress," John told me in his e-mails.
John has also done some trekking in Nepal.
In July of2003, John participated in a
conference and workshop on the lfugao rice
terraces with UNESCO in Northern Luzon,
Philippines. Mr. Klock was asked to work as
a consultant with UNESCO to develop a
conservation plan for the lfugao. Among the
several studies and proposals he is working on
in conjunction with the Ifugaos are: land-use
planning, reforestation, socio-economic
analysis of rice culture, native rice marketing
and development of a building code. The
Ifugao way of life and agriculture are
considered "in danger" by UNESCO due to the
many social, environmental, and economic
changes impacting the province. Mr. Klock
has extensive experience with the Ifugao as a
Peace Corns Volunteer for three vears.

I do not know if John is connected to
Hendrick Klock or the Klock of the Mohawk

Man Badly Hurt, Falls From Tree
Condition At Hospital Declared Critical
Charles E Klock, 52, Theresa
Grocery and Meat Merchant Falls Nearly
30 Feet, Striking on His Head- Suffers
Fractured Skull.
Charles E Klock, 52, Theresa grocery and
meat merchant, is in a critical condition in the
House of the Good Samaritan with a severe
fracture of the skull and other injuries
sustained Friday night when he fell flum 25 to
30 feet from a tree, striking his head on some
rocks when he landed.
X-ray pictures were to be taken today to
determine to full extent ofhis injuries. Besides
the skull fracture, he suffered a scalp wound,
possible ftactures of both arms at the wrist, an
injury to the left leg, lacerations about the
head, face and shoulders and bruises. He was
cut above and below the right eye.
With three other men, Mr Klock, a butcher,
was slaughtering a cow for his general store
and meat market in Theresa. The accident
happened on the Chester Bauter farm in the
town of Theresa, located on a country road off
the LaFargeville road about eight miles from
Theresa.
The men with him were his son, Clarence L
Klock; his brother- in-law, Varney Bartlett,
employed on CE Klock's farm near Theresa,
and John Dickhaut, tenant on the Bauter farm.
Mr. Klock had climbed up the tall tree to
fasten some chain tackles by which the cow's
carcass is held up while it is being dressed.
The tree is located near a fence. Whether he
lost his footing or the limb onto which he had
climbed snapped is not definitely known.
In the plunge to the ground, his head struck
some rocks and cobblestones scattered about
the ground near the tree and he was knocked
unconscious.
The injured man was placed in his own
truck at the scene of the accident and hurried
to the office of Dr. Peter F. Birkel in Theresa.
Upon the physician's advice, he was brought to
the hospital.
Mr Klock began to regain consciousness
before he left Theresa. At the hospital, where
he was received at 10:25 pm, he was attended
by Dr. H.N. Cooper.

Klock) was born April 04, 1835 in St.
Johnsville, Montgomery Co. , New York and
died October 26, 1904. He is buried in Walnut
Grove Cemetery, Meriden, Connecticut.
Irving married Juliette Mosher who was
born December 08, 1838 in Duanesburg,
Schoharie Co. N.Y. Irving and Juliette had

M. and Elizabeth I. Klock.
Irving was a Druggist in Meriden, New

Irving Klock, after making his cough syrup,
would put the elixir in to sell at his drug store.
I am not sure if you can see "Klock" on the
top of this bottle. Under the bottle is the recipe
for the Klock Cough Syrup. I think you can
get the ingredients for this cough syrup at your
local Drug Store if you would like to try it next
time vou have a cold.

This concludes the information I have on
the birth, marriage, and death records from the
churches in the Mohawk Valley. I hope this
information has been useful to those who
enjoy doing genealogy research.
I have recently purchased 18 letters from
Rita Dinser who lives in Sterling Heights,
Michigan. She is not related to the Klock
Family. She purchased these letters from the
Mohawk Valley about four years ago from an
antique dealer in Maine. A wonderful set of 18
letters -15 about Montgomery County, New
York in the mid to late 1880's written to Iantha
Klock Zoller by her cousin, Hattie. There are
also three letters to Charles Zoller from his
school acquaintances. The letters to Iantha
include informative narratives about the trials
and tribulations of early New York Mohawk
Valley residents. I am putting these letters on
the Klock Connections Web Page. Iantha's
paternal line is as follows; Reuben Klock, John
Bellinger, George G., Johanguergh (Old
George) and Hendrick Klock. Check them
