For more information about our community or how the Chamber
Dear Chamber Members, Residents and Visitors,
The Shorewood Area Chamber of Commerce welcomes you to our community! The Chamber has been a unified
voice for our members since 1987, with membership ranging from service organizations to home-based
businesses, local storefront shops to large corporations.
The purpose of the Shorewood Area Chamber of Commerce is to foster the growth, development and success of
Shorewood area businesses through ongoing programs, which educate, encourage and strengthen Chamber
members; to represent the members within the business community and the community at large.
Our motto is Where Commerce and Community Meet. To bring our local commerce and community together, the
Chamber hosts two large community events during the year: the Community Business Expo and Crossroads
Festival.
The Community Business Expo, held in the spring of each year, gives participating businesses the opportunity to
showcase their products and services to the local community. Crossroads Festival, held the first full weekend in
August of each year, is a three-day festival that includes carnival rides, bands, local performance groups, a
parade, fireworks and much, much more. The festival provides opportunities for our local businesses to give back
to the community through sponsorships and volunteer opportunities during fest weekend.
In addition to these two community events, the Chamber’s yearly calendar is filled with after-hour networking
events, business development programs, general membership lunches, Business Women’s Alliance and
opportunities for committee involvement. Member benefits include invitations to all of the above events,
sponsorship and marketing opportunities, chamber website listing with a direct link to your website and ribbon
cutting events.
For more information about our community or how the Chamber of Commerce can work for you, please contact
the Chamber at 815-725-2900 or visit www.shorewoodchamber.com.
As always, remember to shop local!
Sincerely,
The Board of Directors
The dynamic Village of Shorewood is part of the expanding southwest suburbs, approximately 40 miles from
downtown Chicago. It is located in Troy Township and is part of Will County, which stands as one of the fastestgrowing counties in Illinois and the U.S.
The community sits at two major intersections; IL Route 59 and U.S. Route 52 meet in the heart of the Village,
while Interstate 55/Historic U.S. 66 and Interstate 80 converge on its south side. Public commuter transit is
readily available through Pace suburban bus service in Shorewood and Metra rail from nearby New Lenox and
Joliet. In addition, Joliet Union Station is served by long-distance passenger rail operator Amtrak.
Commercial air travel is reachable within a close distance of Shorewood as well, with Midway International
Airport located 36 miles from Town and O’Hare International Airport positioned 45 miles away. Local general
aviation and corporate aircraft services are available at the adjacent Joliet Regional Airport and Lewis University
Airport, which is situated just 11 miles northeast of Shorewood in Romeoville.
In its earliest days, Shorewood – then known as Troy – was a small fishing and resort community along the
DuPage River. With a need for infrastructure maintenance, general management and regulation, the residents of
Troy decided to incorporate as a village in November 1957, choosing the name Shorewood to avoid conflict with
another Troy, IL. The Village of 358 quickly began its transition into a progressive southwest suburb and is now
home to approximately 15,000 residents and growing.
Today, Shorewood is recognized as an attractive, upscale community with a fantastic blend of quiet, smaller
town living and modern conveniences. Beautiful subdivisions have sprung up over the years, positioning the
Village as a regional leader in high-caliber residential development. Established neighborhoods combine with
new subdivisions to provide for comfortable family living and individual lifestyles. Regional developers and
custom homebuilders offer a wide array of housing types. From multi-family to maintenance-free living, or
starter homes to spacious dream homes, Shorewood offers it all.
No matter the stage in life, Shorewood has something for everyone. Prospective homebuyers interested in
relocating to the beautiful Village of Shorewood take advantage of a range of area realtors who are ready to offer
their local expertise and superior home searching services. Contact the Shorewood Area Chamber of Commerce
to access a list of referred realtors and other valuable resources: 815-725-2900, [email protected],

Staying active and maintaining natural outdoor spaces is important to Shorewood residents. The Village’s Parks
and Recreation Department supplies exceptional year-round recreational programming for residents of all ages
and abilities, including athletic leagues and camps, group fitness and dance classes and a long list of cultural,
educational and enrichment offerings. Accompanying the programs are 15 municipal parks, the largest of which
is the modern, 45-acre Four Seasons Park on Seil Road, east of the railroad tracks. Amenities featured at Village
parks include picnic facilities, basketball and tennis courts, athletic fields, a Frisbee golf course, playground
equipment, a sled hill and trails.
To honor those that have served this great country, the Village of Shorewood has built a Veteran’s Memorial at
the entrance to the new Shorewood Towne Center. Directly adjacent to the Memorial is the Towne Center Park,
complete with an amphitheater, playground equipment and splash pad.
The Forest Preserve District of Will County also offers a wide range of activities, educational programming and
recreational sites in the area. Shorewood hosts Hammel Woods, a 408-acre forest preserve situated along a ridge
overlooking the DuPage River. The site offers opportunities for picnicking, camping, fishing, hiking, crosscountry skiing and biking, and is also home to a seven-acre dog park. A 1.7-mile section of the DuPage River
Trail runs through Hammel Woods, as well, providing a developing paved bicycle path connecting four picnic
areas within the preserve.
In addition to these outstanding recreational resources, Shorewood is home to a number of organized sports
leagues, is within 10 miles of three public golf courses and is served by the nearby Galowich Family YMCA. The
Y, located just outside of Shorewood in neighboring Joliet, is a fantastic resource for community members,
offering a well-equipped recreation facility and a calendar year full of programs and events.
While the big-city tourist destinations of Chicago are only 40 minutes away, Shorewood residents don’t have to
leave the local area to take advantage of first-class attractions and entertainment. There is always something
happening in the Village, with an assortment of community gatherings and annual events taking place throughout
the year.
Located 40 minutes from Starved Rock State Park, 20 minutes from scenic downtown Naperville and 20 minutes
from The Promenade lifestyle shopping/dining center in Bolingbrook, Shorewood residents have the best of all
worlds available to them.
Shorewood’s ideal location adjacent to the large city of Joliet affords it easy access to some of the region’s most
popular attractions. The Rialto Square Theatre is a cultural destination steeped in history. The thoughtfully
restored performing arts center welcomes a multitude of headliners to its stage, including musical guests,
theatrical performances and many other entertaining events. Surrounding the theatre is the vibrant new Rialto
Arts District, which is home to several galleries featuring visual artists in-residence.
The Joliet Jackhammers professional baseball team draws thousands of eager fans each season to the beautiful
Silver Cross Field, while racing fans enjoy NASCAR events at Chicagoland Speedway and Indy car racing at the
adjoining Route 66 Raceway. The city also houses the Autobahn Country Club, a high-speed private racing club
that hosts a number of motorsports and manufacturer events, along with driving programs and go-kart racing.
Shorewood community members and visitors also have ready access to two major casinos, an extensive
waterpark, numerous cultural sites and the scenic and recreational-filled outdoor spaces along the Illinois &
Michigan Canal National Heritage Corridor. There is certainly no shortage of things to see and do in the
Shorewood area.
Route 59 and U.S. Route 52 are the community’s two main commercial corridors, housing a selection of retailers,
restaurants and service businesses. There are several shopping centers located along the Route 59 corridor, which
feature a mix of nationally known retailers, such as Jewel/Osco, Dominick’s, Home Goods, Staples, Target and
The Home Depot, complemented by a mix of franchise stores and local, family-owned businesses.
Shorewood Towne Center, located on the southwest side of town along U.S. Route 52, is an ambitious Village
undertaking that brings together residential, commercial and municipal elements. The more than $10 million
Village Hall opened at the master-planned, mixed-used development in 2007, which is also home to the
Shorewood Area Chamber of Commerce. New residential areas will connect to a modern shopping, dining and
cultural site by parks and paths, creating a convenient, pedestrian-oriented community.
Joining the retail development is an array of new and established restaurants, catering to diners of all kinds.
Causal eateries, fast- food diners, bar/grills and other dining establishments line the main streets of the
Shorewood area, offering an eclectic assortment of menus. Prime steaks, global cuisine, pizza, Chicago-style hot
dogs, burgers, deli subs and salads are just some of the delicious food options available in the Village.

Education at all levels is a cornerstone in the Shorewood community. Two PK-8th grade school districts serve
portions of Shorewood. Both Troy School District 30-C and Minooka Community Consolidated School District
201 are among the fastest-growing districts in the state and provide outstanding elementary education to
Shorewood’s young minds. Private education is provided through Trinity Christian School (PK-8) and Holy
Family School (PK-8), as well as numerous institutions in the surrounding area. Highly reputable secondary
public education is provided through Joliet Township High School District 204 and Minooka Community High
School District 111.
Graduating seniors and adults returning to school are afforded several exceptional options for higher learning and
workforce training in the immediate area. Shorewood is fortunate to have the resources of Romeoville-based
Lewis University right in town. Lewis University’s Shorewood Campus offers several adult accelerated
programs, traditional undergraduate and graduate degree programs, as well as two certificates of advanced study
in Education. Further higher learning options in the general area include Joliet Junior College and the University
of St. Francis, both positioned in Joliet.
Enhancing the educational, as well as social and recreational, offerings of the community is the Shorewood-Troy
Public Library. In circulation are innumerous books, cassette books, CD books, magazines, newspapers, DVDs,
videocassettes and music CDs. In addition to this collection of resources, the library offers meeting space,
Internet and WiFi access, copy and fax machines, a microfilm reader/printer and an array of youth and adult
programs and events. From storytimes and writers groups to book discussions, computer classes and cultural
offerings, the Shorewood-Troy Public Library is a hub of community activity.
Shorewood has come a long way since its days as a riverside resort community. Its local economy continues to
develop today, drawing in new businesses and industries who have discovered all the benefits of establishing
operations here. From the progressive, yet thoughtful, recent commercial and industrial development to a
strategic location, highly skilled employees and a quickly growing population, the future looks bright for the
Shorewood area’s economy.
Local businesses are also attracted to Shorewood’s supportive, pro-business attitude, which is led by such entities
as the Village’s Economic Development Department, Troy Township, the Will County Center for Economic
Development, the Metro Economic Growth Alliance of Chicago and the Shorewood Area Chamber of
Commerce. The member-driven Chamber was created in order to encourage growth, development and prosperity
through ongoing programming, dissemination of important information and business assistance. For more

Dentists, chiropractors, family physicians, physical therapists and many other doctors and specialists have all
made a home in the Shorewood area. Residents take pleasure in the quality and convenience provided by the
local healthcare community, which is supplemented by fitness centers, active recreation opportunities and other
resources that promote healthy living.
Shorewood patients take advantage of the award-winning services of Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center in
Joliet. The hospital offers a comprehensive range of health services and programs, with notable features
including the Sister Theresa Cancer Center, a Level II Emergency & Trauma Center, a strong open-heart surgery
program, a Neonatal ICU and a Pediatric ICU. Additionally, Provena Saint Joseph is a certified Advanced
Primary Stroke Center and stands as the area’s only provider of neurosurgical services.
Residents also benefit from the close proximity of two other hospitals. Silver Cross Hospital in Joliet is an
outstanding 304-bed hospital in the midst of constructing a $400 million replacement hospital set to open in
2012. Edward Hospital & Health Services is also highly reputable, operating its campus near downtown
Naperville. The regional healthcare provider offers 309 private patient rooms and features the Edward Heart
Hospital, Edward Cancer Center, Edward Neurosciences Institute and Linden Oaks at Edward.
The residents and businesses of Shorewood are fortunate to be served by a dedicated Village government,
comprised of a Village President, six Village Trustees and staff members, who work to ensure the community
retains its unique character while staying at the forefront of the evolving 21st century. The Village employs the
Citizen’s Advisory Committee in order to further involve residents in Village government. Members, who are
appointed by the Village President to represent their respective subdivisions, review and make recommendations
regarding a variety of Village issues. In addition to this committee, the Village is comprised of several
departments, including Administration, Building & Zoning, Economic Development, Finance, Municipal
Utilities, Parks & Recreation, Police and Public Works. Fire and paramedic services are provided through the
Troy Fire Protection District.
Troy Township government also plays a big part in local community life. Based in Shorewood, the township is a
strong supporter of area organizations and provides a long list of community services. The Township has been a
strong force in various Village endeavors and events, as well as the pursuits of the Shorewood Area Chamber of
Commerce. Among Troy Township’s many services are voter services, the local Mosquito Abatement Program,
emergency preparedness, a recycling program and a number of senior services and programs.
The spiritual community remains active and vibrant, thanks to the range of houses of worship located in and
closely surrounding the Shorewood community. Regular and specially-scheduled worship services, faith-based
education and a long list of outreach programs are all readily available to local parishioners, and visitors are
welcome to participate, as well. Contact the Shorewood Area Chamber of Commerce to access a list of referred
religious institutions: 815-725-2900, [email protected], www.shorewoodchamber.com.
