Il Viottolo is not just an activity; it is also a life style.
First we dream of the journeys, then we develop them
through the continuous evolution of an occupation
which is, first of all, entertainment. This desire comes
true for personal pleasure, and is further amplified by
sharing dreams and passions with the travelling
companions.
Showing people the most beautiful places of the
island is my occupation, but most of all it is my
passion. I enjoy being the actor of these “journeys of
knowledge and beauty”. Egoistically, tourists are the
people who allow me to be in the places I love in the
way I love most. Seeing their satisfaction when our
eyes meet is extremely rewarding for me.
Il Viottolo’s purpose is to make you discover,
know, and rediscover the wonders of Elba and
the other islands of the Tuscan archipelago.
Philosophy
Reality is sustained by
dreams and fed by fantasy.
It all arises from the awareness
of the immense privilege of being
born and living in a wonderful
place: the Elba Island,
where fantasy,
dreams and passion,
magnified by the vigour of nature
and the fascination of history,
become realities
to be experienced, passed on,
told about and shared.
The Viottolo’s philosophy implies relieving, removing,
slowing down and repositioning pauses, silences, going
back to the senses, to rhythms adapted to our nature, a
return “to the origins”, an encounter with the natural
elements, with two guidelines: dreaming and walking.
A perfect combination, the former fast and boundless,
the latter slow and reflexive, limited in the distance but
allowing to investigate every detail, to meditate and
think.
For over ten years, we have been organising outdoors
holidays that combine the discovery of our islands (from
a cultural, archaeological, historical and naturalistic
point of view) with physical effort and spirit of
adventure. Sharpening our senses, increasing our
knowledge, being in keeping with the island
environment.
Our programme includes trekking, sea kayak, mountain
bike and sailing excursions for small groups limited to 8
persons maximum, to foster a relation of friendly
complicity among the participants.
The guides who assist the groups are all passionately
fond of their occupation and deeply bound to their land.
Elba is our Island, the place where we live and carry out
most of our activities and, remaining faithful to our
philosophy, we have developed programmes that
include the other islands of the Tuscan archipelago
and Corsica.

The Journey across Elba is no doubt one of the most
beautiful trekking programmes in the Mediterranean,
and it is the one I enjoy most.
Four excursions will take you across the Elba island
from East to West.
A course that connects numerous footpaths,
the origin of which is lost in the mists of time.
The itinerary has been studied to include the most
fascinating spots and the most breathtaking ridges
and peaks of Elba.
We will reach places of great interest from a
historical and archaeological point of view, in a
unique naturalistic context for its quality and variety.

An intense, unprecedented and exclusive trekking, in
search of the most beautiful footpaths of the Tuscan
Islands and the North of Corsica. Sailing between the
islands will add further interest and charm to this
“wilderness sport” adventure. Sailing implies getting
close to a new island without losing contact with the
harmony of nature offered by trekking.
Through this “sailing between islands and walking on
islands” experience, we will be following the footpaths
of our millenary history, hinged from time immemorial
on the encounter between men and islands.

For mountain bike fans, the Elba island is the
ultimate paradise, for the variety and quality
of its itineraries, that can fulfil the expectations
of any biker.
We will cycle on the most beautiful and
spectacular tracks of the island, along panoramic
routes, alternating gentle stretches, tough climbs
and breathtaking slopes dropping straight
to the sea.
We will come across thousand years old iron
mines, granitic rocks eroded by the wind, cycling
through chestnut woods and pinewoods, and we
will visit hermitages and archaeological sites built
in places full of history.
We will admire wild beaches and drink water from
the springs, whist being continuously surrounded
by Mediterranean colours and fragrances.
The itineraries are all on dirt roads and paths.

I personally think this is the most beautiful tour
among all those proposed; it is the most Spartan
holiday, in total harmony with the island.
You will paddle for seven days around the 147 km
of the Elba coast, visiting its caves and most secret
recesses.
The silence, the pleasure of bivouacking, sleeping on
small isolated beaches, the snorkelling excursions by
day and night, will make this adventure a truly
special experience.
The group, the change of weather, the starry skies
varying on each side of the island, the friendship and
complicity that grow spontaneously when you share
such a unique experience, will leave you
unforgettable memories. You need not be an athlete

Tour around Cape Corso
Tour around Corsica’s finger.
This tour is based on the same philosophy as the tour
of Elba, but in this case a sailing boat will be available
to guarantee greater security and more flexible
logistics. A week to discover in detail the coast of
Corsica’s “finger”, one of the most beautiful and
historically rich sites of the whole Mediterranean
area. Paddling along the coast, you will discover wild,
uncontaminated beaches, imposing cliffs dropping
straight to the transparent sea, Genovese towers
eroded by the sea, colonies of Corsican seagulls,
wonderful white beaches that stretch inland, into
dunes planted with age-old junipers. Tiny seaside
villages set in fabulous sceneries, deep caves and
unique natural cases. An adventure where sport,
history and nature, interweave harmoniously in the
wild Corsican silence. The sailing boat will follow us
and, in the evening, we will either bivouac in small
wild coves or sleep on board, according to the
conditions.
The course and time of the legs will be clearly
conditioned by the sea weather conditions, therefore
the legs in the programme are only indicative.If, for
any reason, the kayak excursions cannot be made,
they will be replaced by trekking excursions.

The multi sport cruise associates all the “Il Viottolo”
activities and philosophy, to offer you a week of
trekking, sea kayak, mountain bike and snorkelling.
Exploring the most beautiful sites of the Tuscan
Archipelago National Park and the North of Corsica,
reaching the most breathtaking and charming spots of
the Giglio, Elba and Pianosa islands, sailing from one
island to the other, to experience the emotions of the
navigators who have been crossing this sea for over
two thousand years.
We will stop in the most attractive places, paddling on
crystal-clear sea between caves and uncontaminated

Whale watch
Meeting the cetaceans.
Since my childhood, I have been fascinated
by cetaceans. The image of the first whales
seen from the coast of Elba when I was a
child has remained vivid in my mind.
The emotion I feel every time I can see
or meet dolphins or whales is always
enormous.
This proposal arises from the desire to
share the emotions that only cetaceans can
offer. Three intense days on board a sailing
boat, in the heart of the cetacean sanctuary,
to observe and study whales and dolphins.
The “hunt” takes place between the Eastern
coast of Corsica and the Western coast
of Elba, including the islands of Capraia,
Pianosa and Montecristo. This is the area
of the Mediterranean Sea where the
greatest number of cetaceans concentrates.
It is quite frequent to meet grey dolphins,
and not as rare as one could expect to spot
the Mediterranean finback whales.
