RULES AND REGULATIONS
1. That the Society shall be called the Skelton Horticultural and Agricultural Society.
THE OBJECTS OF THE SOCIETY
The objects of the Society shall be:(a) To promote the interests of those engaged in farming and agriculture in the area by facilitating the
co-operation of farmers, horticulturists and others interested with a view to the improvement of
farm animals, and the production of better crops, and to encourage the adoption of efficient
methods of farming.
(b) To grant facilities for demonstrations, discussions and the interchange of information and ideas
for practical and educational purposes in conjunction with the County Education and Advisory
Staffs.
(c) To contribute to, assist or co-operate with, any Society or Association whose objects are in whole
or part similar to those of the Society.
(d) To accrue any real property which the Society may think necessary for the promotion of its objects.
2. A President, President-Elect, Vice-Presidents and other Officials shall be elected each year at the
Annual General Meeting of the Society, which shall be held every year in or about the month of
January. The financial year shall be from the 1st November to 31st October each year and the
Accounts will be closed and balanced on the latter date.
3. The Show will be held on the first Saturday in July each year unless the Committee decide otherwise.
4. A Management Committee shall be appointed yearly at the Annual Meeting of the Society, to
consist of not less than Thirty Members, one third to retire annually, but are eligible for re-election
with other nominations at the Annual General Meeting. This Committee shall have power to
arrange matters relating to the Society and to revise Rules and Regulations, but not less than
fifteen members of the committee shall have power to act. The Committee shall appoint their own
Chairman and Vice-Chairman, who will take office after the presentation of the Annual Financial
Report at the General Meeting.
5. That any retiring chairman be automatically made a vice-president. Any committee member will
be made a Vice President after 40 years service and Life Members after 50 years.
6. The competent Judges for all exhibits be appointed by the Committee at the Autumn Meeting.
7. No prize shall be awarded unless entry pronounced to be of sufficient merit; that no
exhibit can be exhibited for more than one of the Society’s Premiums (Special Prizes
excepted).
8. That all Exhibitors make a declaration that the exhibits are bona-fide their property, and in the
case of entrants for the Breeders’ Classes ear marks complete with herd allocation Attested
Numbers must be on Entry Forms. Sheep Exhibitors to state on Entry Form if Accredited.
9. That any Exhibitor acting dishonestly will forfeit the right to any and all prize money. Protests (if
any) to be made to Head Steward prior to Judge awarding prizes.
10. That the Management Committee reserve to themselves the right of altering any Judging or Show
arrangements they deem necessary.
11. That each subscriber of £10 or more (£20 husband and wife) will be deemed a Member of the
Society - (Badge will be issued).
12. That the Agricultural Department be open to all comers, and that the Horticultural Department be
open to amateurs only.
13. That an Amateur shall be understood to be one who does not keep a gardener, or who is not
himself a professional gardener.
14. That all Live Stock be on the ground not later than 9-30 a.m. prompt and not leave before
3-30 p.m. All prizewinning Live Stock to be shown in the Grand Parade.
15. That Marquee Exhibits be in their places by 9-45 a.m. and not to be removed before 4-30 p.m.
without the consent of the Stewards. That anyone infringing this rule will forfeit their claim to all
prize money. All Marquee prize money will be paid on Show Day in the marquee at 4-30 p.m.

16. That no Entries be received except on forms supplied by the Secretary, all Entrance Fees must
be paid at the time of entry. Entry Forms and Fee for Telephoned Entries must be in the
hands of the Secretary prior to Show Day. Any Exhibitor not having paid will be debarred
from exhibiting.
17. Should any dispute arise the decision of the Committee shall be final and without appeal, and the
Committee have the right to refuse any Entry which they consider to be contrary to the Rules.
18. Every care will be taken of Exhibits, but the Committee will not be responsible for any loss or
damage.
19.The Society do not accept any responsibility for accidents or disease to persons, property or
animals sustained at their annual show, howsoever caused.
20. HORSE EXHIBITORS ARE REQUESTED NOT TO EXHIBIT ANY ANIMAL WITH ‘THE
COUGH’. The Hon. Vet has authority to request the Exhibitor of any animal reported
coughing on the field to withdraw immediately.
21. Notices regarding current Health & Safety Regulations must be observed at all times.
22.Perpetual Cup Winners are responsible for the safe keeping and return of the Cups to the
Society not later than following show day.

INTER SCHOOL CHALLENGE
Schools wishing to enter are asked to submit a display on a rural theme of their own choosing and
not to exceed 1m x 1m x 1m. Schools are to provide their own staging to be assembled on the day.
Six items within the display will be judged along with the overall presentation. These are:
- Creative/Informative Writing, Year 5/6
- Collage, Year 3/4 - Handwriting, Year R/1/2
- Craftwork, Year 5/6
- Model, not from a kit, Year 3/4
- Painting, Year R/1/2

Particulars of Competition
Competitors will be required to inspect a course of obstacles on foot. A judges walk through will also take place before the competition
begins. They will then be inspected mounted and awarded marks up to a maximum of 10 points for turnout and safety of horse and rider,
the value of tack not to be taken into consideration. On sounding of a bell or whistle each competitor will be required to pass between two
flags and carry out a course of tests, in a given time. Failure to complete the course in the correct order and time allowed will result in
elimination. Each test will be judged separately on (a) horsemanship and (b) performance. Committee reserve the right to alter particulars.

overall in grateful remembrance of Jim Whitfield a former Chairman of the Society and a most
loyal and dedicated member, to be judged by Mrs. C. Whitfield and family.
