Champagne Brunch
Location has Changed!
Due to a scheduling conflict,
the
Champagne Brunch on September 12
has been moved to Quarry View Park,
near the Old Penitentiary. The park will
provide the space and shade in a beautiful
setting to meet club members, sign up for
upcoming ski trips and events that will be
presented, and enjoy the delicious spread
of cuisine. The fun begins at noon.
We will be raffling off a ski trip for two to
Sun Valley and/or a ski pass to Bogus Basin Club members fill their plates with an array of
delicious food at last year’s Champagne Brunch
resort.
We are strongly encouraging you, in a twisting your arm kind of way, to send in your
$5 fee to reserve your spot and guarantee enough food and drink for everyone.
Send in your $5 check made payable to Bogus Basin Ski Club, noting that it is for the
Champagne Brunch, to Natalie Angell, 1975 Old Saybrook Lane, Boise, ID 83706.
Directions to Quarry View Park: west on Warm Springs, left on Old Penitentiary

I can’t believe the summer is basically over and it is “back to
school” for many. This summer has been a blur of activities
for most of us. Camping, biking, rafting, golfing, just to
name a few for me. It is exhausting just thinking about
it, but I wish it weren’t over. There is still lots to do this
fall with the Champagne Brunch, Shakespeare, the Bogus
Brush cutting, all events coming up in September and
October. And don’t forget the BSU Tailgates. The first will
be on September 25. I hope we will get many of our new
members to participate. Keith and Bev Darrow joined us
on the Salmon River raft trip and said they had a blast
and felt very welcome for being new members. At the bike
ride in New Meadows, new members Renee Clark and Rick
Reynolds joined us and fit right in with the group. There
were also many newbies at the Donnelly campout. I would
really like to encourage them all to write an article about
their experiences as new members so maybe other new
members will want to join in. I promise you, you can’t help
but have fun with this group!
Get your friends and relatives a copy of the Mogul so they
know what to look forward to. If anyone joins in September
they have their club membership for 15 months, through
October 2011. Winter is coming and there will be many
club perks in the works.

Salmon River Raft Trip
by Richard Porter
On August 7, twelve adventurous club members took to the
river like ducks on a pond. We launched from Spring Bar, 10
miles up river from Riggins. The first big rapid got everyone
wet so as to enjoy the rest of the day. We saw golden eagles
soaring and deer grazing along the way. It was a great stretch
of the Salmon River. We had lunch on Mill Beach and took
out at Old Lucille. It was about a 26 mile trip.
Kuebler, Richard Porter, Michael Bouton, Julie Thomason,
and fairly new member Donna Schyler. Rosie the dog made the
trip on the cata-raft also. There were several rafts on the river
that day. The group enjoyed the water fights, the stories from
our guides, and taking the dips in the river. Michael B. rode
“the bull” through the time zone rapids and didn’t get bucked
off. Check the pictures out at www.salmonriverphotos.com.
New members to the club, Keith and Bev Derow, stated that
“it was a fabulous time with a fun bunch of people and we’re
looking forward to more adventures with the group.” Other
members that were on the river were President Rosie Rosco,
Tyler Wymond, Kevin McMichael, Stephanie Jenson, Vicki
All in all, it was a terrific day on the river that everyone really
enjoyed. Maybe next year more members and guests can plan
on this super adventure. The Brundage Raft people really do a
great job and would love to have our group back again. They
can make the price right for us.

Bike Trek Along the Weiser Trail
by Rosie Rosco
Twenty-one people survived the twelve-mile ride from Pineridge
Tavern to Fruitvale on August 14.
This was a really fun weekend and is looking like it will become a
regular event in the summer. Many thanks to Dave Kopet, Clyde
McNeal, David Stoehr, and Mike Fitzsimons, who took vehicles and
trailers to the end of the trail. After a little confusion that only cost
us about an hour, we made it back to Pineridge Tavern. One anxious
group had taken off on the trail by that time. About 4 of them decided
to get more exercise and rode back up the trail after they reached the
end. Ric Maddock was even more hard core
and rode the winding narrow highway back
uphill to the tavern. The second group brought
up the rear and didn’t take the ride too seriously.
We stopped a number of times to enjoy the
scenery, the river and numerous scenic wooden
bridges. And trying to dodge the interesting
configuration of horse poop on one of them was
perplexing. Thanks a bunch Michael. The more
pleasant observations included bald eagles. And
a mother deer and her fawns bounded across
the trail in front of us. The flat tire gang, Dave Kopet and Pat Rice even
made it to the end where a cooler of drinks was waiting for them.
We all managed to fit into the vehicles and make it back to Pineridge
mid-afternoon where we celebrated with a few pitchers of beer. Back
at the motel, we enjoyed barbecued chicken cooked by Michael
Bouton on Big Bertha. Everyone brought dishes to share. The corn
on the cob was the best! Thanks to Paul Markowitz for towing Big
Bertha and to the Meadows Valley Motel for their hospitality. Many
took pictures and we are anxiously awaiting them to put on the
website for all to enjoy.

Thanks to
George Medek
Many thanks go out to George Medek for his time and
ingenuity of fixing, cleaning and modifying the club barbecue.
He reconfigured the counter weight for the lid so now Rosie
can lift it and hopefully cook some burgers at the tailgates
this fall. He also cleaned it up and fixed the burners that were
not working. The barbecue is used at several club events, most
recently for the bike trek. It will be cooking up food at the
Bronco home football games and at several ski shops this fall.
We need more members to step up to help out. It is very easy
to do and you’ll have fun doing it. Please email Rosie and let
her know you are ready to burn something on the grill.
Thanks again George. You are an asset to the club.

The Club’s Night at the Botanical Garden
What a grand event – cool grass, soulful music, various beverages,
and good friends. It was a wonderful time listening to Ben Burdick
and the sweet voice of Amy Weber. Several club members, thirtytwo to be exact, including Ron and Ruby Andridge, who won
the tickets and bottle of wine from the Mogul drawing, came out
to enjoy the event. Most were up dancing before the night was
over.
Thank you to Alicia Culbertson for getting there early and saving
us all spots in the shade.
The Idaho Botanical Garden staff has invited the
club to come out for the Winter Garden Aglow
and volunteer. It will be a blast. Please let Michael
Bouton know early if you’d like to be in the group.
Top: Club members, including Hazel Haynes and
Nancy Cennell, were scattered throughout the crowd.

What’s Hot for the 2010/2011 Season
by Greenwood’s Ski Haus
As we enjoy the final days of summer, our thoughts turn to our
favorite season-ski season! Here at Greenwood’s Ski Haus we are
open for the season and we’re excited to share all the new gear and
clothing we have received for the 2010/2011 season. The forecast
of a La Nina winter has all of us dreaming of an early winter with
above normal precipitation and below normal temperatures.
Bindings- Marker has done it again! They have released a
lighter version of the incredibly popular “Griffon” binding. In
the spirit of the royal family, they named it the “Squire”, for
those looking for a lighter weight binding system. Add to that
the new “Tour F10” and “Tour F12” Alpine Touring binding
and Marker is going to really impress this year. Salomon has
released their STH Driver bindings this year with the STH12,

durability and retention.
Skis- Rockered skis are still an exciting category for this season.
There is great variation on the rocker theme but rocker generally Goggles- Oakley has come on bigger and better than ever this

What’s Hot for the 2010/2011 Season
Continued from page 9.
For women, purples and pinks in many different shades are
the hot colors for the season. Black prints and plaids accented
with bolder colors will be plentiful. A lightweight, quilted
down jacket is the go to style with a great fashion look and
super comfy feel! “Wet look” nylon outer fabric is the latest
spin on the down sweater.
For men, we see colors ranging from the classic reds, greens, and
blues to bright yellows, oranges, and even lavender. Clothing
manufacturers are offering many variations of insulated,
weatherproof shells, and softshell garments so you can find the
perfect options for your needs on the slopes. Stretch fabrics
are plentiful and offer great fit, function, and comfort. Winter
fashions for 2010/2011 will be bright, bold, and fun!
Stop by Greenwood’s Ski Haus, grab a cup of coffee, and check
out all the new goodies! We always enjoy chatting about all the
new gear and the season ahead. We hope to see you soon!
What a Spectacle!
A group of vicarious club members joined in with the other 2,500 bicycle riders for the Tour de Fat parade Saturday, August 21. The event is
sponsored by New Belgium Brewery.
