It is recommended for application to sheetmetal ductwork. 1.HARDCAST recommends the use of our Two Part II Dispenser. When using the dispenser, the bottom guide roller is submerged in the sealant. The coating control roller should be adjusted to apply a liberal coating of adhesive on the tape as it emerges from the dispenser. Only DT-5300 and DT-5400 will fit the Two Part II Dispenser. 2.Pull the tape slowly through the dispenser so that it can absorb sufficient sealant and cut to the desired length. The easiest sizes to handle are 12” to 18” lengths which can be overlapped on each other to form a continuous band around the duct. 3.Apply the tape to duct joint with the heavier coated side down and press firmly to ensure total contact with duct surface. Work out any air bubbles entrapped under tape. Apply tape to surface immediately after coating with sealant. 4. Apply a top coat of RTA-50 sealant over the tape with a brush. 5. IF A TWO PART II DISPENSER IS NOT AVAILABLE, THE TAPE CAN BE APPLIED USING THE FOLLOWING METHOD: Cut the tape to the desired (manageable) length and place it on a flat surface. Using a paintbrush apply sealant directly to both sides of the tape then apply tape to duct joint. 6. Allow a minimum of 72 HOURS drying time before turning on the system (on interior duct only). 7.After the sealant has dried a minimum of 72 HOURS, on exterior duct apply an additional coat of RTA-50 to tape surface. Drying time may take longer depending on temperature and relative humidity conditions. 8. Coverage: Approximately 1 gallon RTA-50 per two 3” X 150’ rolls of DT-Tape. CAUTION: Surface must be clean and free of moisture, contamination and foreign matter for best results. Do not apply when rain or freezing temperatures will occur within 72 hours. Use only latex or epoxy based paints to cover Hardcast products. CAUTION: If product freezes, return to room temperature and stir before use. LEAKAGE TEST: Use smoke method only. Do not use soap and water for test. FOR SPECIAL APPLICATIONS CONTACT HARDCAST RTA-50 LIQUID SEALANT CAUTION HARMFUL IF SWALLOWED OR INHALED Avoid breathing vapors. Keep container closed when not in use. Use with adequate ventilation. Wash thoroughly after handling. If swallowed DO NOT INDUCE VOMITING. Call a physician. Overexposure to vapors may cause respiratory irritation. If inhaled, remove to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Contact a physician immediately. MAY CAUSE SKIN IRRITATION: Prolonged or repeated contact may cause drying, brittleness, cracking or irritation. Use of impervious gloves and clothing recommended. Avoid contact with skin. May be irritating to sensitive skin. Wash thoroughly after handling. In case of contact with skin, remove contaminated clothing and thoroughly wash affected area with soap and water. Do not use if skin is broken. If rash develops, discontinue use. Contact a physician if symptoms persist. REVIEW MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEET FOR COMPLETE SAFETY INFORMATION PRIOR TO USE. CONTAINS: ETHYLENE GLYCOL FOR INDUSTRIAL USE ONLY. The original tape is now in 150 foot lengths to fit this dispenser. The RTA-50 liquid sealant is available in 1 gallon pails. The combination offers the same superior seam/joint sealing used for almost 40 years in an easy to use, easy to maintain dispenser. Save time and money and still get the best duct seal ever invented, just follow these instructions. A. Remove Core Roller (1) by slightly D. Pull the tape through the the holder/frame G. Pull the amount of tape needed and cut pulling on the sides of the holder/frame. Insert the Roller into a roll of Hardcast DT Tape. Replace the Roller with the Tape into the holder/frame. towards and over the Tape Cutting Guide (4). with a razor cutter using the Tape Cutting Guide (4) or use scissors. B. Guide the leading edge of the tape down, between the the Fixed Coating Control Roller (2) and the Adjustable Coating Control Roller (3). Pull the tape under and around the Bottom Tape Guide Roller (6). C. Pull the tape up and guide it back through the two Coating Control Rollers (2) & (3) and over the Adjustable Coating Control Roller (3). Printed in U.S.A. E. Remove the lid from the Hardcast RTA-50 sealant pail. Place the assembled Tape and Dispenser in place of the lid and press the rim firmly to lock it to the pail. F. Adjust the amount of sealant applied to the tape by loosening the wing nuts of the Adjustable Coating Control Roller (3) and moving it towards the Fixed Coating Control Roller (2) until the tape is pressed against itself to create a squeegee effect. Move the Adjustable Roller (3) away from (2) to leave more sealant on the tape. Tighten the wing nuts when adjusted as desired. H. Apply the sealant/coated tape over the duct joint. Overlap the ends of the tape and squeeze out air bubbles. Allow to cure as directed on the sealant label. I. When not in use, remove the Tape and Dispenser assembly from the pail. Close it tightly with it’s lid. Cut the tape where it is dry, use or discard the wet tape. Clean the Dispenser with water. 600280 09/08 supercedes 08/07 ©2008 Carlisle Corporation 4 IRON-GRIP 601 ® Premium Indoor/Outdoor Flexible Water Based Duct Sealant Complia nt with ir ements LEED Requ A versatile, all purpose, fiber-free, duct sealant for use on all types of metal duct, glass fiber duct board, and flex duct, as well as duct fabric and flexible tubing runouts.
